there are only a few places to eat in the valley -- one is being torn down and rebuilt, the other is across the street and closed for dinner -- and then there is Dos Hermanos. Menu is typical Mexican, and all good to very good. Prices are fair and if compared to Truckee, you actually get enough to fill you up for less than $20 -- no kidding. And you dont have to ask for water or other old fashioned things. The help is held together by Susan, the only non-family member there. everyone else is family, speak Spanish, and some do not speak English -- so its a good indication that its on its way to exceptional. You dont need reservations except for weekends when its where the local eat -- again -- a clue to goodness - over-filling, over-flowing, good. What draws me is their lamb. I will drive from Susanville -- about an hour an a half or Nevada City, about ah hour and a half to eat their lamb. LITERALLY. People who like lamb say, and I can quote since its been said this way exactly enough times that i am not taking liberty -- "This may be some of the finest lamb I have ever eaten." And it always IS some of the best lamb they have ever eaten. I dont now the spices, but i keep going back ad eating more to learn. I have eaten standing up next to the cash register on a crowded Saturday night when the locals come out because the wait was about an hour, and I just didnt want to spend an hour drinking at their full bar if I was going to drive. The motel is only a couple of places up from them, and the globe hotel is accros the street -- the motel takes reservations at the first (or last) service station in town, not the one with the funny animals - so you can get it heating up or cooling off while you eat. The lamb is exceptional, the beans are not gooey or gummy, and like I said, their other traditional Mexican food is 3 to 5 stars. Th eir American food is 3 to 5 stars, steaks can reach five and a half --- I give them lamb 8 our of 5. I hate to do this to me -- it will fill up on truckee ski weekends -- BUT you save over a hundred dollars, no kidding -- and tip the help well -- they bust A** to give you good food, and theyve earned it, unlike the snooty nose in the air servers of air food art. Micro greens? Why not call it what it is!? -- a leaf of parsley we cut up several time. At Dos Hermanos you get a SALAD a real one. and there is no way their herbs are micro and if they are, ask for enough to fill up your teaspoon enough times that you are full. This is a place that services locals, so sometimes you see or hear local color -- let it pass, or spend $80.00 a mean without bread or salad or water in Truckee and feel pampered, if feeling pampered is by Faux-gay waiters and not a waitress who is a little over weight, or by Susan, who flys by you so fast you wonder if shes in the same dimention and how the heck did she re-fill your cup of water/coffee from what ever dimetion shes streaking through. They are a family, mostly happy, and dont mess with a happy family. They will out live you they love what they do so much. Was my absolute favorite place to eat, now its umber three, none of which is in Truckee because as a retired college proff, I just cant afford to pay $25 for a burger and $10 for frys -- oh, and an extra $5 to heat the bun. I think that would cost me about $8.00 at Dos Hermanos including coke, napkin, water, thrice as much meat, frys, ketchup and mustard -- AND the burger comes with lettuce, tomatoes, and such INCLUDED in the $8.00. you COULD spend the rest of the $40.00 on tips -- but you probably wont. five bucks would make them happy. and you too. and would get you thanked rather than snooted upon like it would in Truckee. cant rave about their service or their lamb enough. exceptional

Wonderful sit down Mexican restaurant. We drive all the way from truckee to eat here. Simply because Truckee lacks good Mexican food. Worth the drive and your time to get here.

Had the rolled taquitos and a margarita this time and the carne asada last time and would definitely recommend them. Everything looks and smells wonderful and great service.
