Id like to give them a few stars for the food but the service was TERRIBLE just down right pissed me off!!! I came in there with my parents & my father had health issues so I was trying to make it quick. But we sat there for 40 mins and no waitress ever came by. We then saw 3 others who came much later than we did get their food before us. The waitresses were laughing & joking with all the white customers but didnt give us a second look. Irritated I finally decided to get in ones face and tell her weve been waiting a long time & would like to order. She apologized & said shed come us to next BUT she goes to another table full of white people instead. I was furious at this point & gave her exactly 3 mins to get to us or I was going to storm out cursing like a sailor...she barely beat the time limit I set for her. I complained about how she just flat out was ignoring us & she just dismissively tells me "well Im here now so let me take your order." Since I was treating my parents I decided to just go ahead but the rest of the time in there I was steaming mad. The food was good at least. I by far didnt want to tip them but my mother was so Christian in faith she gave them one despite my protest. I went up front to pay the check & they made me wait again a long time. This time I wasnt having it I told them Im not waiting all day to pay. She came over & I couldnt hide my anger I was so pissed. She then has the nerves to ask me if I was mad & I said well of coarse I am!!! I just let her have it about how she helped all those other guests who came well after my family, how she joked & even hugged the white guests but treated us like garbage, & needless to say her apparent racism. She just made excuses like "oh I had a difficult customer...were short handed...blah blah blah." Untrue & I told her I was never coming back here. If she did something of good faith like give me a discount or free item it would have made her "Im sorries" mean more but her words rang hollow for me. She didnt care that she lost a customer who had given her a lot of business. One waitress who wasnt there this day treated me much better every time I came but I hold this one accountable for the whole place SHES RACIST dont come here unless youre white cause then you might be ok.

Went here yesterday for lunch. Very large roomy space inside, nicely decorated. Waitresses were very helpful and super friendly. There were a ton of choices for mexican food. I choose a combo plate of Shredded Beef Taco & Cheese Enchilada, with rice and beans. The food was very tasty. The taco was crispy and tasty and the enchilalda melted in my mouth. They bring large amounts of both red and green salsa to the table which were delicious on the chips and food. I will need to return to try more adventerous items, but I usually order this same combo whenever I try somewhere new. I think it is a good way to determine their skill and quality.

Very friendly staff. Please check your check/ receipt. The will rip you off. Once I told them they are over charging me "$30." They said they didnt add the drinks "1 coke. 3 waters." to the check. They wrote it after. And still didnt add up. Was still over $20. Then said thats because of taxes. PS. Food is not authentic.

The food is great, friendly service, and the prices are good too. The waitress is always friendly. El Serape has a friendly / family atmosphere. You can feel comfortable here with your family and for business meetings. I love this place and will always refer my friends to El Serape to enjoy a bueno meal here.

just not into the mole sauce on my enchilada, CHIPS were GREAT as well as hot sauce, my chili rellano was soggy spungee, ground beef taco was good,,,,service was okay,, atmosphere was decent, cleanliness was a 9, price was okay,,,,, will not go back... I am a texan so my judgement may be a little harsh,,,,,,

Been going here for 38+ years. I love the food - it hasnt changed a bit. I love the decor, it hasnt changed a bit. Although I used to HATE sitting there for hours with my parents while they sat and talked, I still enjoy going there this day for the nostalgia (and the burritos!)

I and my family were happy to enjoy our meal, it was at a busy hour so anyones service would have an issue. I could see they were trying and they succeeded. I ate well, we paid and tipped. What else could you ask for these days. FIVE STARS to them.

Had lunch today...chips and salsa good....taco shells like leather and filling tasteless. Chili Relleno peppers were from a can and the egg coating burned. Friendly waitress but could not compensate for poor food. Outside is very unappealing.

fajitas are the best thing i tried but kinda overpriced, lots of mediocore stuff. Avoid the ground beef tacos yuck! I keep getting dragged here by coworkers but now I just go somewhere else when they try to take me to this place

I used to visit El Sarape with Congressman George Brown at lunchtime when I was his Intern in the late 1970s. I still visit at times and feel the place is a historic part of Riverside. The food is good and the place is wonderful.

The food is great, Ive been here a bunch of times, the only bad thing I have to say is their under staffed and waiting a whole hour and a half for dinner because theyre only two waitresses is insane!
