I was staying with my sister in Manteca and she suggested that we head out to the Mangy Moose for breakfast. I have to admit, I was intrigued by the name and they had hooked before I ever stepped in the door. When I did actually step in the door, I was blown away with the arrangement. It was very simple actually but I never see it in breakfast places anymore. The main part of the restaurant was at the counter in front of the cooks. There where a few tables around like two of them and then there was a back room with a few more tables and those look like they might have been an add on after the fact or something. It is very cool to plop down at the bar and engage with people sitting on either side of you as well as joining into the conversation with the different cooks behind the counter who are also right there talking with you. We dont need social media, we just need the Mangy Moose setup in all restaurants LOL! Ok so onto the food. I had the moose skillet it has bacon linguiça and ham scrambled with diced potatoes egg and cheese also served with two sausage links. I never had linguica before and from what I could tell it is some kind of foreign sausage. In my book it is more meat and that is A-OK! So this skillet comes out that is filled with yummy meat, eggs and potatoes and on top it has two more sausages. This plate was very tasty. I did hit it with a little tabasco and I was off to the races. I was not overly hungry on this day but I had a good appetite and I couldnt get through half of this skillet. The portions here are huge. I actually went with 3 other people and everybody asked for a to to box. If your in downtown Manteca, stop into the Mangy Moose.

I went here after a local 5k race in the hopes of trying something new. The place is a tiny hole in the wall, but who says diners have to be fancy? I ordered a waffle with two eggs and two pieces of bacon, my fiance had biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon. The coffee was okay, not good, but definitely not bad. We had four people in our party, all of which ordered coffee and the waiter gave us a plate with three creamers on it, which was definitely not enough. The coffee refills were also non-existent. My mug sat empty for most of meal and was finally refilled after I had finished eating. We were not waited on during our meal and were placed in the back of the restaurant. No one came by the check on us, or refill our drinks. The food was okay for diner breakfast. My waffle tasted like something Id make myself with a box of bisquick and the bacon wasnnt cooked well. I ordered over medium eggs and received runny over easy. Due to the slow service and unremarkable food, I wont be back.

My wife and I tried them after viewing it on Gooday Sacramento. We must of been there on one their off days. The food portions I received were small. Must of been running out. I ordered ham and eggs and got a half a slice of ham. The potatoes wernt even cooked through. Not even browned. As far as service went. It seemed slow. The owner was busy talking to all the regulars and topping off their coffee over and over while my cup sat empty until I was almost done with my meal then he filled it up. Then had to wait forever to get the bill. I think my wife went to the register to get it while I used the restroom. No wonder people have to wait so long to get in and seated. I guess you have to be a local to enjoy this place. Well drive 50 or more miles to eat at places with great food and service. But we wont drive 20 miles to here again.

The kids and I stopped in here for breakfast on the way out to Yosemite. Nothing vegan on the menu but the owner was more than happy to throw me a bunch of veggies on the cleaned griddle. He was the type of owner that got his hands very dirty working just like the rest of the staff. He chatted with just about everyone in the restaurant...including us "outsiders". The food was very good and the girls were very happy. Highly recommended.

I think we have reviewed this place before but its worth it again. Love the atmosphere, the up front grill cooking, and the staff. Having a Meaty Moose omelet and my wife is having the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Wonderful every time. BUT...deducting a star because the door doesnt close and the cold draft just kills!

We go often. The staff know you by name and know the extended family. My grandfather goes in often and the staff tells us if he was in recently. Great food.

Good tasty food prepared as you watch. Great service from the staff. A small potentially noisey environment. Dont plan on a meeting. Recommended.

Small cozy diner with a wonderful atmosphere. This is how you a diner should be. Their coffee is a hidden gem and the bacon waffles are killer!
