I was enjoying this bar, until i asked another bartender to get me two more shots of vodka (the one who wasnt serving me..she told me that I cant get anything to drink cuz "Im being rude"). Im from Ukraine and I know how much I can drink, so I asked how was I being rude.. However, there was no adequate reply from her. The security guard contacted the owner of the restaurant and handed me the phone. The owner was nice and said that he can give me free shots at the expense of the bar, even though the bartender girl who was good looking wasnt trying to apologize and was still being rude for no reason. The most important thing was that she didnt even check my id (even though I look young) and kept on being rude with me. I recommend that you go to another bar right next to it (2 min away), unless you want hard liquor (cuz they dont serve it there). Especially if you are a foreigner, because apparently this bar is prejudice towards foreigners which was reinforced by their staff. I feel upset about their attitude, because I thought everywhere in this country people are nice and friendly towards people from another countries. It turns out not everywhere...(

The shack sits in La Jolla... well, really, it sits in Birdrock North. La Jolla is expensive, the shack is not. La Jolla can be pretentious... not at the shack though. This is pretty much a divey beach bar. The tap list is a bit limited for my tastes, but the staff is super friendly, bartenders knowledgeable and have a heavy hand. They also make it a point to learn the regulars. The kitchen is okay. Certainly not spectacular, but theres enough bar food options to soak up the stiff pours. Good chance if you hang out long enough youre going to meet someone with some crazy story from days gone by. Fun place to hang out and easily the last place thats going to put on airs in La Jolla.

Ive been coming here ever since I can remember, the bartenders at the shack are always friendly and once you achieve loke(local) status here the drinks get even stronger. I highly recommend this place as a preparty or end of the night stop off, although the food is good as well and the selection of beer is decent. I have partied here at all times of the day, but the best time to go is right before sunset, grab a beer and go down to the real shack at windnsea. This place also has a good crowd except for the ucsd students that raid it on certain nights.

I stayed across the street at the travelodge for three months, and spent many evenings here at the Shack. Actually rode down to the beach to see the real shack. I made many friends and locals were very cool. The salads are great and the cook Ray Ray made the most awsome avacado burger with everything I have ever had. Kyle the bartender is way cool. I`m going back soon! Great food! Great people. Made me feel at home all of the time. Nor-Cal guy

Super chill spot. Showed up on a Saturday around 10 and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Fast forward about an hour and we were stuck sharing a table outside. Parking lot is hidden in the back but there was plenty of residential parking. Only gripe is the bathroom. The mirror reflects everything inside the stall to whoevers standing outside the stall. I dont mind the lack of privacy but why bother with a door then.

A GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT! will be going back. Food is fantastic and drinks well made. Happy hour specials are pretty good too! service is top and even tho they forgot my meal order they quickly made up for it with a complimentary round of beers! I thought that was a perfect follow up! the atmosphere is relaxed and low key with a choices of music you can play while you play pool or just visit.

The owners were unfriendly and rude. Some of the staff expressed their unhappiness at this establishment which showed in their service. The food was ok, but what bar food is not ok? This is the first bad review I have ever given to any bar/restaurant but I felt it was necessary. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

This place is awesome! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Im in town from Denver with a couple of friends after playing 18 holes at Torrey Pines and teaching everyone how to play German 9 ball. Will and Laura are amazing.
