Im rating this place as okay. There is a lot of unrealized potential here. There are several issues that need to be addressed in order for Girard Gourmet to get a better rating. The biggest oversight is the lack of a public restroom. Ouch! What is one supposed to do if the urge to go to the restroom surfaces in the middle of the meal. The other item Ill mention is that the freshness of the offerings is suspect. I overheard the conversation the customer in front of me & got wind of the fact that theyll let certain foods sit for 2 days. I was giving the place a try for the first time, and only had a blueberry bran muffin and iced tea. While the muffin was pretty good, I could tell it was not the freshest. On the bright side, Girard gourmet is in a perfect spot off Girard St & there arent any legitimate competitors as far as I can tell. The other asset offered is the sheer selection of food items one can choose from. I have rarely seen an establishment give you so many varied choices. The gentleman besides me was having a pastrami sandwich that looked tasty. So there are many good reasons to come back. The outside seating is also a nice bonus and perfect for doing some people watching. Im glad this place is here, but it would be much better if they paid attention to the first two items mentioned at the beginning of this review.

We are foreigners who arrived starved from the USS Midway tour, simply because we heard La Jolla was nice. What a surprise that the first place we found to eat wound up being the best in the trip. The Teriyaki Salmon is delicious, and the Lasagne is simply amazing. The clientele there seemed a little high-maintenance (its surrounded by fashion stores), so if you weight the reviews for a simpler pallate like mine, its for sure a five star joint.

Im giving this little gem five stars, because the food was pretty good, and we didnt pay too much :).. We came in for lunch, and I tried the roast beef sandwich and turkey sandwich. Ill recommend both. - We came in for lunch and split the sandwiches up among 4 people which turned out to be more than enough. Overall great experience in this little deli, located in beautiful la jolla. pros: the way a deli should be

Girard Gourmet is one of our all time favorites. Everything is made fresh in house. It works well for a lot of people because there are SO many options. It is deli style so you order at a counter. They make wonderful soups, sandwiches, baked goods, quiches, and lots of different salads and hot meals. The owners are truly a pleasure. This is great if you have a variety of eaters in your group.

These are some of the best sandwiches in town! Favorites are the turkey avocado as well as the roast beef. You can chose the bread and cheese and toppings. Service is always fast and efficient and food has never disappointed. Their day old bread and pastries is a great spot to pick up some perfect bread to make French toast or bread pudding with at home too.

This is a delightful little Belgian cafe. The food is pre-cooked, and warmed when you order. But it is very good. Their bread is excellent. They are very friendly. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or chat with a friend. Most of the time it is not noisy. It is vegetarian friendly. There is nice art on the walls, and it just feels good.

Extremely friendly staff, great location off La Jolla cove. Delightful baked goods and pastries. Foods great, no complaint there. Fruits and vegetables are brought directly from a family-owned farm in Julian. Everything is fresh and delicious!

Food is great! Customer service is terrible. I dont appreciate the attitude and tone of voice these employees have. Its like youre a burden to them. When in fact, they should be grateful I am bringing them business.

Hours say open until 8 p.m. Showed up for a to go order between 7:30-7:45 and was told they were closed, yet door was wide open and tables still had dirty plates etc like someone had just left. Will not be back.

Food is not the freshest, and the staff are less than friendly. They gave me a burnt chocolate chip cookie that I couldn't even bite into. I would have returned it if this wasn't a togo order!
