HORRIBLE SERVICE - BAD QUALITY - SMALL PORTIONS I wish there was an option for NO STARS. I JUST sent my three kids in to pick up food at El Charro. First we went online to look at the menu. This is the ONLY Mexican restaurant that we had not tried in town. NEVER AGAIN. Tamale and Cheese Enchilada plate online $6.25 receipt - $9.25 Beef Flying Saucer online $5.45 receipt - $6.95 California Burrito online $5.95 receipt - $7.45 When my kids walked back home and showed me the receipt, I called and asked the owner/manager why the price difference? He explained to me that I HAVE THE WRONG MENU. That the menu I was looking at online was from 2004 and that he had changed the prices in January because of the economy (I would also like to mention that I know several of the business owners in this district, on this street, and everyone is having a good year btw) I explained that the prices reflected online were the same as the prices at all the other taco shops in La Jolla. He simply replied that it was MY CHOICE TO GO TO THE OTHER TACO SHOPS OR TO COME TO HIS!!! I promptly hung up and wrote this review immediately. My kids also mentioned that the lady helping them there was rude. I have lived in this community more than 20 years. I will NEVER step foot in this dump again. EVER. The portions are tiny, and the quality is terrible. I will recommend that if you are looking for Mexican food in La Jolla go ANYWHERE else. There is Los Dos on La Jolla Boulevard, Rigobertos on La Jolla Boulevard, The Taco Stand on Pearl Street, Joses Cantina on Prospect, or, El RAnchero on La Jolla Boulevard (more of a sit down restaurant with a Cantina) as well. You undoubtedly will be treated better, and will receive much better quality and portions from ANY of these places. Even if you are down in the Shores...it will be well worth your time to make a short drive to any other one of these Mexican restaurants. I will make sure that I advise anyone I know that this place is AWFUL, and remind them that it is "their choice to go to any other taco shop in town"

Its been a long time since Ive been there. We happened on this place by accident and decided to try it. Im from Chicago and was here on vacation and couldnt remember the name of the place, but have been dreaming of it since. Recently had some time and I did a lot of street view on Google and retraced that day. Saw the front door and boom there it is. Brought me back. Might be because I was on vacation and usually everythings a little better, but I loved the food. I know good food and eat a lot of it. If I ever get back that way again it will be the first place I go when I get there and the last place I stop before I leave. As for the service: all I ask is to get get my food, thats why Im there. Sometimes I think people expect too much from others. Bad service probably started with a bad attitude from the customer....you know those people. KCCO

Very rude customer service.I asked the guy taking my order how the California Burrito was he shrugged his shoulders and acted as though he hated his job. I was very nice and didnt get anything but a rude response from him. Ended up giving my friend her money back because she asked for another taco shell seeing as hers fell apart. The guys in the back were not very nice either. The meat was not seasoned. Could have been so much better. Definitely not AUTHENTIC. Taco Bell is more authentic than this hole in the wall. I would not recommend to anyone! Avoid this horrible establishment at all costs possible,

Ive never been to such an unprofessional restaurant. The lady who took my order got it completely wrong and had a rude demeanor. I ordered 2 beef tacos and 1 chicken taco with a tamale, no cheese or sour cream on any of my food. I left the restaurant when I finally got to eat my food and it had cheese all over the tamale and she gave me 2 chicken tacos and 1 beef taco. Despite that, the quality of the food was the worst Ive ever had. This is not California Mexican food, and its actually worse than Taco Bell. If I were you I would take the ratings seriously and avoid this place.

My wife and I went kayaking nearby and felt hungry after. So we decided we wanted to try this restaurant. The food was delicious. Being Mexican and having had authentic Mexican food my entire childhood, I vouch for them. I recommend the carne asada burrito with guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. Its super tasty!! So much that the next day we went back for more. The staff is very friendly and always keeping the place clean and tidy! If I am ever back in town, Ill make a quick stop for that burrito again.

Just what I needed after a long day of meeting at UCSD. I got a combo with two good fish tacos, rice, and beans. I added in a Pacifico and several trips to the chips and salsa bar. I sat outside and watched the world go by. It wasnt the best fish taco Ive ever had but it was a good, filling, and satisfying meal. The service was friendly... certainly better than I expected from some of the reviews here.

The guy taking the orders seems to have a little attitude problem. I ordered horchata and he for some reason thought I said machaca. When I told him no, I wanted horchata, he got an attitude and tried to tell me that I didnt know what I was talking about. Anyway, the horchata here is the factory made mix that comes out of the soda fountain and the food isnt very good.

Dont listen to any of these idiots that gave bad reviews. If the guy helping you has a bad attitude persevere through this terrible and troubling issue and order the Hot Cheetos Burrito. Anyone giving less than five stars clearly did not order the Hot Cheetos Burrito. Order it and prosper.

Service is half of the restaurant experience. Im glad that guy never took my order, I would never go back. I found the woman that takes our orders to be very nice, and accommodating. The food is very good and worth the price. Its our go to place for food when we go to the beach.

Do you want delicious huge portions of food? This is your place! It is NOT a nice sit down restaurant, but they were fast and the food was good. We had the carne asada fries, Chile relleno and a fajita burrito. All were tasty and fresh.

I followed the nice review here by Esteban Andrade, and was pleased. For my personal taste, carne asada burrito could have less meat and more veggie or beans. The side of red salsa is delicious.
