Home of the Citra Double IPA. The Great American Beer Festival 2011 gold medal winner beating out the likes of previously more well known Double IPAs such as Pliny the Elder, Heady Topper, and Double Sunshine IPA. Citra is brewed twice a year and to avoid having to turn folks away, theyve switched to a lottery system using Brown Paper Tickets. Winning allows you to purchase six 22-ounce bombers at $7.58 a piece. Youll then pick it up at the brewery or theyll ship it anywhere in California. If you lose, you can always visit the brewery the first weekend youre allowed to pick up Citra and drink it on tap. I support their switch to a lottery system. There arent lines wrapping around the block, theres room to breathe, and they dont have to tell people whove stood there all night that theyve run out of bottles and tapped out. Theres a two-pint limit per customer. After which, you can try their other equally awesome beers such as Isabella Blonde, Just Outstanding IPA, Sequoia Red, or Class V oatmeal stout. If your luck is right, they might have Class X on tap, which is their Class V stout aged in bourbon barrels. Which imparts vanilla, caramel, and oak notes to the already epic stout. I made the 220 mile journey here last Friday from Orange County to pick up my Citra allotment. Having never been here prior to that, I was astounded to learn how small their establishment is. Its located near an equally small grocery store, food and liquor, and some homes. We were fortunate to snag some seating right at the bar. Down a few steps is where the wizardry happens, a humble 7-barrel brewing system that is responsible for the entirety of their production. I wasted no time ordering my first pint of Citra and split a large order of their waffle fries (definitely add the cheese and garlic) with my friend. The waffle fries were delivered quickly and with copious amounts of garlic, just the way I like it. The cheesy garlicky-ness of the waffle fries went perfect with the huge hoppy, mango, and pineapple flavors of the Citra. Three pints of Citra, various sips of other brews, and a basket of waffle fries later, I set a course for home stinking drunk and happy with bottles of Citra Double IPA and a t-shirt to commemorate the pilgrimage. If the opportunity arises, you should absolutely patronize Kern River Brewing Company. The beer and food are delicious, the denizens of Kern County are friendly, and the people working here are hospitable. I will be back for another pint and that Ortega burger soon.

This rating will stay at a 3 star until they hire a great cook. Not a subpar cook. Some one in town recommended KRBC for a beer and french fries for the kids. And even offered for us to the garlic and cheese fries. My kids havent eaten french fries since new years. So this was going to be a treat. To our dismay. The fries were a bust. Crisscross or waffle fries loaded with raw garlic and a little cheese. RAW GARLIC. Really. Thank you. My kids dont want fries for the rest of the year. The class 5 beer was delicious. Class 10 a little sweet. Blonde was aok. They have a lot of ipas I didnt try. Nicole our waitress should of taken off the crappie fries. Just saying. Its just fries. The chili was a hit. We bought some to take back to camp site and make chili nachos. We added fresh green onion and queso. Chili was good. It even had Mexican corn in it. Will be back for the beer.

This is a great locals hang out. You are able to get a yummy beer and a burger while you sit amongst the locals to find out where the best spot to fish might be. There are a few "old-timers" (to the Kernville area) that work there who can give you the inside scoop on which trail to mountain bike etc. There are always 4 good old standby brews there: Isabella Blonde, Sequoia Red, Just Outstanding IPA and Class V stout. The brewmaster has always got something new on tap that hes recently tried... perhaps a pumpkin, wheat or new hop. Always ask the bartender for a "try" first. He/she will always oblige with a taste before you plunge into your beer decision. There is a nice outside atmosphere too where families enjoy grass and flowers while eating. Theres always a dog bowl out in case you have a thirsty pooch! Go to KRBC, you wont be disappointed. I love it there!

Kern River Brewing Co (KRBC) in Kernville, CA is hands-down the place to be whether you are on vacation or a local. I am what the locals call a "weekender" meaning I live in Bakersfield but come up to Kernville on the weekends to get away from it all. Kernville is only a little over an hour East of Bakersfield and is a world apart. KRBC makes some of the best brews in the US and enjoys trying their hat at creating new ones. EVERY beers I have had there has been amazing. Their food is incredible...I highly suggest one of their perfect hamburgers or healthy/tasty salads. The staff at KRBC is always friendly and treats of like family. I sit back and watch how they treat tourists and can honestly say they treat EVERYBODY like family. Come on in and say HI - Youll be glad you did!

Dont miss KRBC! The food is amazing, the views are great, and the beer is delicious! This was an unexpected highlight of our trip to Kernville. We spent the weekend camping at the Kern Valley Airport (highly recommended) and hiked to town for the afternoon. After a brief debate, we decided to visit the brewery...and were not disappointed! The Beer Belly Braut is awesome (add the bacon-jalapeño jam) and the blue cheese waffle fries are delectable. As for the beer, I enjoyed the seasonal more than the "flagship" brews, but everything was very nice. We will be back!!

Kernville suddenly has some serious coolness factor added! The town was screaming for a place for the outdoor adventure minded person to drink, eat, and socialize after a serious day of fun. The brewery filled the void! Anyone who visits will be stoked! Just look at the names of the beers; "Class Five Stout", "Sequoia Red", "Isabella Blonde", and "Just Outstanding IPA". Great food too. The motif exhibits a perfect merging of the Old West with the new school mountain adventure town attitude. Great views from the deck.

Went here with my boyfriend and some friends over New Years. We ate here one night and then enjoyed the beer so much we kept coming back to refill growlers throughout our stay in Kern. My personal favourite was their IPA. The food was good too and the vibe was pretty chill. Im surprised this place isnt more well known considering how good their beer is. Ill definitely be coming back next time Im in Kern.

Great Beer, good food, excellent service. The menu doesnt have as many options as Id like, but the food was very tasty. The beer was outstanding. This was our first visit to Kernville but well definitely be back. This isnt a place to take the whole family but if youre in the mood for great beer and some good food to go along, Id highly recommend the Kern River Brewing Company.
