This was my first review, which was 5-stars: "Delicious ramen, tons of menu choices, and sushi if I want it too! Be aware they close in the afternoon from like 3-5." However, weve now eaten there several times and... although the food is good, every time we go there we feel like they basically just want us to leave. They are just generally unfriendly and dont seem to want us in the restaurant. I dont know why; we have a one year old, but after the first time when they gave us a broken high chair we strap him in his own seat that we bring with us and hes fine. I dont think its anything to do with us; we also saw them refuse to seat a mom and her boy (about 7 or 8) because they didnt have any two-person tables and wanted to save their four-person tables for more people (although more people never came, so they lost out). To me, thats just rude and inconsiderate. So in spite of the good food, we wont be returning. Its just not enjoyable to eat somewhere youre clearly not welcome.

I wasnt expecting much, but this place hit way below that. We went for the ramen, and hoped it would be good because the restaurant has "ramen" in the name. I knew something was wrong when I tasted the tea. It had a chlorine flavor to it. Like the detergent they used to clean the cups did not wash off. Then came the ramen, awful. We got standard ramen which comes with pork slices in it. The pork was marinated in the wrong style. It was Chinese style pork not Japanese style, the flavors are different. And the broth did not have good flavor. I had my 2 young children with me who dont care about authenticity. Neither of them liked it either.

Im happy to have a decent Japanese noodle joint near me, and a friend with lots of ramen-hunting experience in LA says that this place compares pretty well. But its never knocked my socks off the way that Mifune in SF used to (on practically weekly pilgrimages into the city for udon.) And Id love if the place had a little more atmosphere; restaurants in strip malls need a little extra decorating to hide their location.

Popular and affordable local restaurant. Call me a snob, but it is not terribly traditional Japanese food, and not just because of the cream cheese Maki that seem unavoidable in the U.S.. Many dishes, especially the soups, are a mix of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. Still, its pretty good.

Good ramen, tempura, decent sushi. Large menu and fair prices. If you dont want the hassle of going to the close by Asian mall that never has parking and youre not ready to order from non English menus, try this spot. It can get busy, though, and they are closed Mondays.

The food is alright if your into some local ramen. But i wouldnt come here just for ramen. IT is open by some local asian family. the resturant itself is not very big, it is a small little homey place for some good noodle soup. come here if you stop by this area.

We tried two different types of ramen. Neither one satisfied our craving for a good ramen (after a trip to Japan not so long ago). You might have better luck with some of the other dishes. There are many to choose from. Service was attentive and efficient.

Great sushi place. Ramen is good as is the sushi. Considering that my wife is a sushi chef she is very critical of sushi restaurants. She and I were both delighted with this restaurant and it has turned into a regular place to eat.

One of our regular places! Love their Udon. Generous hamachi on the sushi, too. Friendly staff, good service. There is a wonderful Japanese variety store in the same little strip mall we love to browse after eating lunch.

Our family favorite sushi and udon place. Consistently good quality and fair price. Ingredients are always fresh. Portions are good size too. The staff is friendly. Cant count how many times we have eaten here.

I love this place, they have a huge selection of options, attentive service and reasonable prices. They serve their iced coffee black with a side of simple syrup and milk so it mixes easy however you like it.

Pretty small little restaurant, but Id have to say that it has the best Ramen available in the East Bay.. Not the best, but decent for the price and variety. Actually, the food is overall decent.

Skip this one. Very salty, bland flavors. The sushi was only slightly better than the "ramen"and "udon" Very nice folks that serve lackluster food. It wasnt cheap either.

Best and favorite restaurant of our family for years and years and years. The Dragon Roll is especially wonderful but everything tastes great. We love Katana-Ya!

Foods do not taste like authentic Japanese ones. Just having sushi, ramen on the menu doesnt mean its a qualified Japanese restaurant. Waitresses are rude, too.

Always good, always fresh! This is my spot for good sushi. The customer is also excellent, especially when they remember your favorites!
