The first time I ever went to Koi I had a great experience. I thought it was great that they have 50 types of rolls to choose from. Many sushi bars dont have such a huge range. I was looking forward to new experiences. I had their Nevada roll. It was wonderful. Probably because it was cooked. I also had Miso soup and a salmon roll. The Miso soup was bland (and ALWAYS is so i never order it there anymore.) I was surprised to see that for like 6 bucks, i was getting a pretty SMALL six peice roll of the salmon. I was also very surprised to see the ridiculous amount of rice surrounding the itty bitty amount in salmon in the roll. I had to pick the salmon out just to taste it!!! I left unsatisfied, and a little irked at the end when I saw that they already added gratuity to my bill. Whatever though, they are just losing out on a better tip. When I left, i regretted that I didnt enjoy it more. I figured that maybe it was just a bad day at the sushi bar. I visited again about a week later to give the place another shot. As an experienced sushi eater I never give up on a place if I havent tried it a few times. There is usually something good to find if the first time wasnt great. Our waitress was awful. She neglected our table, food service was slow, we literally waited like 15 minuted for ONE roll, and there were two sushi chefs. There were maybe two or three other people in the restaurant. I watched the chefs and i noticed that instead of preparing our order, they were prepping the bar....isnt that what your supposed to do BEFORE you open...i mean, they dont open till 11 anway!! My friend ordered an Alaskan roll, and I ordered a roll that was wrapped in cucumber with salmon inside (cant remember which state name it had.) When we FINALLY got our order, we were once again surprised by how STINGY the portions were, and how SMALL. His Alaskan roll had GOBS of cream cheese in it, and you cold not even taste the fish. My roll was exceptionally well, and I enjoyed it, yet once again the peices were small. After a few more weeks, my friend wanted to have the all you can eat special, so we went ONE LAST TIME. Not only did it take FOREVER to get the orders, but our waitress was rude, and she glowered at him the WHOLE time (because the man ate WELL over 60 dollars worth of sushi) and apparently there are rules. No sharing, among one of them. Which is understandable. But its uncomfortable eating in front of someone who is watching you like a hawk. So weird. I had Albacore and Salmon Sashimi, and caterpillar roll, and when i finally got the roll, i was once again dissapointed at the size. My sashimi was warm and literllay half a bite sized worth of fish. For 8 bucks. Ya, it was bad. The roll was good, but I couldnt get over how stingy this place was. I left paying $30 dollars for an amount of food that could have been an appetizer, and was not good quality. So Im just saying, if you REALLY like koi, either you dont mind the wait and service and portions, or you caught them on a good day. Because 3 times out of 5 I was disappointed in the place. My favorite sushi place right now is called Sakanas on 59th ave and beardsley. They have large cuts of sushi, and VERY friendly waiters. It may not be the world best quality of sushi, but you always leave full and feeling good at how much you spent. I will NOT be going back to koi on olive. The one on bell is better in my opinion.

I have been coming to K Sushi for 8 years now... sometimes weekly. I am not exaggerating when I say I have been here over 100 times. When I learned of new owners I was sad, but remained hopeful. I have now visited three times since the new ownership a couple months ago (yes I subconsciously came less after ownership change)... the first time was different but most of the staff was the same so I felt great and they had better Sake in their dispenser, so I felt okay about other changes. The next time I found out every staff member was gone... I was sad but the sushi chef was great and sent me three different little treats for free, so I was again so excited. Then last night... that chef seems gone, only one chef with a decent number of customers, but not packed. I saw him argue with the waitress at one point... things were looking much less clean and organized... our waitress forgot our edamame, which isnt a huge deal, but when we reminded her we still hadnt received my wifes meal so we told her that too... she came back with the edamame and apologies.... but then forgot her meal AGAIN... so we remind her again and are asking for it to go at this point since we have reminded three times and we have been there over an hour. Our bill comes and we are fairly surprised to see even the $1.50 edamame on there... nothing reduced or given as apology. That may sound harsh to expect that but I implore you to picture going an hour and reminding someone a number of times...and getting nothing. Its fairly common place to offer some sort of consolation and apology. I left a 5% tip, which I literally have never done anywhere. Im sorry for rambling but this was one of my favorite places and this week I will be starting my hunt for a new place to become a regular. :(

Our family & friends have been fairly loyal to Koi at this local for about 2 yrs. Then one afternoon, my husband & I went in for a little alone time. Placed our usual order, only to be hit with a $60 ck that previously ran us about $35 to $40. Not including tip. Not to mention the occassional $12 bottle of Korean wine that I can pick up down the road for 1/2 that price, but it is "our" time out so why not. This came from their "new" 15% gratuity on all checks" NOT POSTED!!! anywhere other than on the 2nd entrance door in relatively small print. The way that we both interpreted the signage was "all cks" was a personal ck. Not on all cks!!!!!!! period....for heavens sake, I can see that for parties of 5 or more, but not 2 people in the afternoon. We took pictures of the signage, and the outside signage, no prices posted on those either, however if you went with the all you can eat, we would have made out better. We did bring this to the attention of the manager, with nothing more than "the sign is on the door". Had the staff even mentioned to us prior to our ordering the new gratuity and all you can eat that would have been much appreciated and given us the option order or not. Food - prior to their change of pricing, it was good value for the $, but the portions were a bit small. Service - always slow We always tip well and they know who we are, so of coarse we were more than a bit insensed and the non-chalant attitude of the management. Needless to say we will no longer frequent Koi due to this.
