Been going on and off for 20 years and have had only a few dissapointing meals and several that were wonderful. But mostly he had provided good to very good Italian fare that had us coming back over and over. Especially the first 10 years. Here is what happened: Mussel appetizer smelled bad the second the semi-robotic waiter put it down. They were tiny and bathing in a pool of oil and yes they mostly tasted old & stinky. They had about 10 specials that night which they still insist on reciting to you so you have to keep getting claification before ordering. I had ravioli stuffed with, supposedly portobello mushrooms. Who could taste anything when it is bombarded with thick chesse? Lasagna that my kid had was so bad and so greasey that it was barely tolarable. Stoffers frozen kills it. The complimentary bread was stale. Our rushed waiter had only one recommendation: the most expensive thing on the menu; steak with Gargonzola sauce. Same evil goo they plopped my ravioli in. Trying to move some old meat before its completly gray? Salvatore was cooking himself that night. He needs to reinvent himself or shut the door. I really hate writing such a tough review.

I have lived 17 years in Seattle and had not been there! Incredible - yet believable. I have to say, this restaurant was sensational in food, service, ambience of family (being able to talk to the Chef Salvatore) from our table to his opening facing the dining room! Just like down south. The pasta with with agnello (lamb) was excellent - the pasta was fresh and made by Salvatore. The waiters were excellent in customer service skills and in going beyond the server/client relationship....they were like talking to readymade friends and all in one happy Italian family. The dessert? Ahh, this was the best Tiramisu I have had in Seattle and I have tried them all. A must ask from anyone! In short: real Italian food and the Italian Chef, Salvatore, was simpatico, fiesty, and an excellent owner/chef.....makes the place!! Believe me! Ive eatten a lot of Italian food and met the owners of a lot of Italian places so really, really know ;)

Its perfect; it is like eating in Italy. The waiters are smart and sharp, the food is always interesting, the ingredients top notch. We like to come when we have time to savor each course, talk, enjoy the atmosphere and each other. In Italy families go out late in the evening and settle in to eat and enjoy being together. The people sniping about service and price surprise me, I think they are looking for a different experience? The best Italian food in the Northwest, on a par with the best meals Ive had in San Francisco. I stopped missing La Traviata in the Mission when we found Salvatore.

Years ago I had gone to this restaurant with my family and as far as I can remember enjoyed it then. And now recently moved nearby and decided to try it again. After reading some reviews of this restaurant it sounded like half the time people complained of the service, but I really dont understand why that is. We had a wonderful experience! The food was great, the waiter was extremely friendly and had fantastic suggestions for wine choice and meal. We both felt like the restaurant deserves a much better rating than what a lot of reviews have said about this place. I highly recommend it!

Wow, we moved to Seattle four years ago and are blessed to have this awesome little Italian joint just 2 blocks from our house. Ive eaten at hundreds of Italian restaurants in my life and Salvatore is on a very short list of favorites. We go there 2-3 times per year and it is always superb. One of my neighbors grew up in Seattle in an Italian family and he says this is the best Italian restaurant in Seattle. I agree!!

We use to come to Salvatores in the early 90s and loved it. Was looking for a good Italian restaurant near UW where my daughter goes to school now and remembered how good it was years ago. Well, I am older now (eek) and have more to compare it to and it is excellent!!! Delicious squid ink pasta with scallops, num num! Service was excellent as well. I highly recommend it. Get the profiteroles for desert!!!

Food was excellent. My husband said it was the best dish hes had at an Italian restaurant. My paparalle w/ wild boar was fantastic, even our 10 month old daughter loved it. Service was a little slow, but the appeared to be very busy because of the holidays when we were there. We appreciated the tips and information they provided us, as well as the delicious bottle of wine they pointed us to!

I have been going to various restaurants with my dad around the University of Washington, and out of all of them this place had the best food by far. In my life I have never had better pasta. The Filet Mignon in my dads dish was also some of the best tasting steak Ive ever eaten. Be prepared, though, it will cost you. Save this for a real treat, it will be worth it.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants Ive been to. Period. We have only ever ordered off the specials chalkboard and everything weve had has been top tier. Excellent freshly made pastas. Superb sauces. Over the top buffalo mozzarella. Not to mention the staff is excellent, Salvatore himself cooks in the kitchen every so often and appreciates all of his customers.

Loved this restaurant! I went with my father and we found the service to be great, the food delicious and the ambiance enchanting. I would highly recommend it! All the food had great flavors. My father, who typically doesnt enjoy Italian, even thought it was great! I really recommend their specials. Wonderful place... hope to go back soon!

The food here is awesome the best Italian we have found in Seattle.. We never order anything off the printed menu. They always have so many specials. The staff and service has been exceptional each time we have gone. We have gone both at prime time dinner on the weekend, and mid week and still the same great food and service.

Nice folks, kind to kids, honest simple food. Attentive service. Some reviews here oversell. This is not a huge standout in the region or city -- Marcello ten blocks North is a little better, and places like Cafe Juanita, Assaggio, or Serafina are one or two steps above. But a fine neighborhood place.

We will be there again tomorrow night for the umpteenth time. I am not sure what Camille was smoking when she wrote her review, but this is a superb restaurant with over the top service and a daily specials menu that will knock your sox off. Olive Garden, says Camille? Your taste buds are defunct.

I can only speak to the wild boar pappardelle, as its all I ever order. Juicy, succulent, tender, and smoky. Finish off the meal with the limon gelato. It actually comes in the rind of a hollowed out lemon. Ladies: Watch out for the waitstaff. They are Italian men that love to flirt.
