I found The Answer while looking for a local place with a selection of stouts. This place stood out for two main reasons during my search: 1. It had a much wider selection than most places which are simply over-saturated with IPAs. 2. They update their tap list frequently. I cannot stress enough how wonderful this is. So we gave it a shot and were not disappointed. The service was fast and friendly and the building itself was large with decent spacing between tables. I tried a flight of 4 their Andalls which had very reasonable pours for the price. While I wouldnt make any of them my "go-to" drink, I enjoyed tasting some different things and that is the whole point (and fun) of a flight. I was also hungry so tried the Pork Meatball Banh-Mi. This was sort of a double-edged sword. I enjoyed the flavors of the sandwich and was very pleased. However, my palate never quite recovered and it made discerning the tastes of the beers a little more difficult. This is in no way a knock on the food, I really enjoyed it, it just didnt pair well with the beers I selected. Afterwards I had a glass of beer from the "guest taps" which is a very impressive list with great variety. We also ordered a hazelnut ice cream sandwich (cant remember the exact name) which was the unexpected standout of the meal. The flavors were amazing and I could see it being a perfect compliment to some of the stouts. Overall, I would say that this place succeeds both with the food and beer, although Im not sure if I will partake of both at the same time in my future visits. It is probably just related to the type of beers that I enjoy, but the food (with the exception of the ice cream sandwich) detracted from the taste of the beers. Again, this is not because of any deficiency with the food or beer, just not my kind of combination. We will definitely be back though. I highly recommend this place for someone looking for a great selection of beers.

For the most part this is a good place to have a beer with your buddies. If you have an open minded and not so demanding spouse/GF or date this is good too. I went on a Wed night and we noticed 90% of the clientele in the restaurant/pub area were men in between their 30s and 50s. The food is pretty good if you adventurous like I am with options that significantly differ from your regular American food menu. I tried Rice Rice Baby, it was really good. My GF had the soft crab sandwich which I found fascinating and pretty good too. She did not like it that much. It is a freaking crab in a sandwich! Now, in terms of beer they mostly serve stouts and IPAs. If you are into those this is your place cause they have a lot of that. There was only one Pilsner and one kind of lager the waiter recommended. Service is really good and fast too, btw. Place is nice, clean and the music is very odd and weird.

Im a Richmond Native and found this place through a friend about 2 years ago. In the numerous times Ive been here, I have honestly never been disappointed. The beer selection as well as the Answers own brews are genuinely unparalleled to anyone else in the Richmond area. Ive taken friends, first dates, and even my family here (they dont like to try new foods) and everyone is always so impressed with the food. What I think makes the Answer unique is their games between the two bars. It gives people something to do besides just drink, which I love. Lastly, on Mondays all their beers are $5 and they often have live music which is a great time! 10/10 Would recommend to everyone. This is my favorite place in RVA, go try it!

Upon entering The Answer, we were greeted kindly and chose to take a spot at the bar. This place has over 50 beers on tap at one time, which is awesome, but a bit overwhelming. The menu they have contains brewery information, ABV, tasting notes, etc. for every beer on tap, so that is helpful. Some beers have different amounts for pours, so be mindful of that. After deciding on a drink, I chose to look at the food menu. They have a Vietnamese menu with a good amount of vegan and vegetarian options. The food was outstanding, but the service was lacking.

When I first went to the Answer, I was under impressed. Im gluten free and couldnt have anything, food or drink. I have gone back and now they normally have at least one drink I can have. Still, I would expect they would have some wine on tap like they have downstairs at Mekong. The food selection is also not as good as Mekong. Plenty of space at the two bars though. Try it, youll like it. Please take an uber and dont drink and drive.

A+ beer. Absolutely love what they are putting out of their own. However getting served isnt the easiest thing. Waited at the front bar for 25 mins without getting looked at by a bartender. Finally went to the back bar and got served. There wasnt a clear area to just grab a beer for your seat but still worth the wait and trip. Sours and stouts are out of this world

Where do I start? The beer is amazing! The beer selection is beyond belief. The food is out of this world! Im so full, but I want another beer. Very clean and inviting. All of the employees are so nice. Service is impeccable. My 9 year old son loved the bacon fried rice. He is excited to head back and play pinball and Pac-man. Maybe then I can have another beer...

This is an interesting place to go. Can be very loud. Very good selection of beers and well priced. Food is alright. It is a Vietnamese/American pub fusion style... most everyone in my party loved it...I thought it was only alright. Its a little too loud for my taste, but youre here for the beer and they do that very well.

If you like IPAs, this is the place to go in Richmond. Each time Ive been theyve had at least 3 IPAs that they brew that are amazing. The Grand Larceny (double IPA) might be my favorite beer ever, very smooth for a double IPA. In a city with a lot of really great craft beer options, The Answer really shines through.

The Answer is AMAZING! The only thing that comes close to the perfection of their food (carni and vegan friendly) is the quality of their servers, bartenders and managers. Bobby has us coming back time and time again. Literally the the best place in Richmond for beer and/or food. Worth a trip from the Fan, trust me!

First time visiting. Had a great dinner at Mekong prior to The Answer. All I can say is Great beer, horrible service. Pint was poured horribly by bartender. Three fingers of foam. While waiting for a second, employees to busy talking amongst themselves to ask if I needed another. So we left...

Great beer but dont come here if you want to laugh and have fun. We were playing the games provided (Jenga, PAC man etc) and laughing with friends and told twice to be quiet or leave. We had just started our night so far from drunk and their staff was extremely rude. Wont be back.

Lots of room to meet with friends! Friendly staff, extended hours, in-house food service, good music, multiple bars and a game room...working perfectly together to create a Richmond locals favorite hangout. Not to mention over 60 delicious brews on tap...Dont forget your growler!
