My fiance and I have lived above one of the shops on Caroline street for about three years now. Due to, well, laziness... we get take-out from the downtown shops often. I could write about what restaurants NOT to go to, the ones that have such horrible/food service that the only reason why they are still open is tourists who dont know any better---but then I might receive angry e-mail messages from said businesses, lol. So, Ill focus on the positive. Ie. The best places to go in Downtown Fredericksburg. Bangkok Cafe is the best restaurant in Downtown Fredericksburg along Caroline Street in our opinion, hands down. The food is just that amazing. I would recommend the Chicken-with-Pad-Thai. We usually get it medium or hot, but a warning..Medium is on the spicy-side. American-hot is so hot I can barely eat it, but my fiance loves it. Also, if it helps, we had a get-together with some friends comparing chicken-pad-thai from several restaurants, and bangkok cafe won. So, there it is, a review from some locals. We usually get take-out here bi-weekly. Hope this helps!

We came to Bangkok Cafe on a Sunday afternoon because Soup and Taco was full and had a 20 minute wait. We were seated right away, the place was pretty empty. The food was good, but not great. I am comparing it to Thai from Faang in Warrenton, Virginia - they have much better green curry and mango sweet rice than this place. The waitress was rude, no other way to describe it. She took forever to get our drink order and didnt refill them once during our meal. Also, she brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert, which we did. Once we ordered and finished dessert, it took so long to get our check that I walked up to the back counter / bar and asked for it. I would consider going back if service wasnt so horrible because the food was decent, but no thanks.

The Imitation Duck (made with tofu) is one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten. My husband and I travel all over the world and love/try all foods, and this dish is just magic. Beware: it can be spicy (order a lower spice level than you usually would), but what good Thai food isnt flamin hot? The Thai iced tea is great (you can actually taste the tamarind) although a bit creamier than I like personally. The mango sticky rice is a dont-miss dessert. The service isnt overly friendly, but theyre prompt and efficient, so who cares when the foods this good. We can only get by Bangkok Café once a year or two, but we will never miss it if in the area - and neither should you!

The waitress was not friendly at all--just handed our dishes to us (?) with not even a hint of a pleasant expression. A service charge was tacked on our bill, which I thought was really unfair, as we were just a party of five. I leave generous tips, but did not add any extra to the 17% service charge because it had been a surprise. The food is OK, just OK, for a Thai restaurant out in the boonies. The prices are way too high for the tiny portions that are served. Oh, and my son watched the surly waitress make a pot of tea by pouring iced tea into the pot and then putting the whole thing in the microwave! This meal was a disappointment all around.

Amazing Thai!! We thought Tarntip was great--but not even close to this! The outside does not do the food justice. Some of the best Thai around!! My husband got some beef/eggplant/garlic dish and I went with the usual pad Thai-- fantastic. The spices did not overpower one another and the flavors blended wonderfully! We are customers for life!! Delish!

Ive been obsessed with this place for almost a decade. The vegetarian duck is phenomenal. Get it even if youre a meat-eater. And you cant go wrong with the pineapple fried rice loaded with salty cashews. Or the eggplant with crispy tofu. I agree with the others. Id eat here every day if I could, but theyre closed on Tuesday!

Finished out the day at one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The food reminds me of my trips to Thailand, I have always received great service and great food, It was a nice respite from the Octoberfest that was in full swing outside. Dont forget to take your friends, good food always taste better with friends.

Holy curry! This restaurant was introduced to me by a regular. Yikes! Im sooooo in love! If youre in Fredericksburg and like Thai food, run, dont walk, and try this little place. The pa-nang (shrimp) is INCREDIBLE!!! Plus the little sweet treat of wrapped & fried bananas was HEAVENLY!!! Im in love!!!

The food was very good, but the decor is a bit shabby. We got a little neglected because our waitress spent quite a bit of time chatting with a lady at a different table who spoke her native language. Dont expect anything too fancy or quick service and you should be fine.

Service was horrible. Waitress brought super cold food that feels like it just came from the fridge. When I complained she said grabbed my plate and said I will just heat it up for you. No apologies, nothing. So I walked out of that place. I would never go back.

Easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the northern Virginia area! Staff is always nice and quick service. The food absolutely speaks for itself. My husband loves their pad Thai and I love their basil chicken!! =) We go here any chance we can.

Agree with other posters on a couple things. The crispy duck is awesome, as is all the other food here. But be prepared for some non-friendly waitresses. As long as you expect it up front and dont get offended, its kinda funny.

Meh. Flavors were ok at best. "Fried" rice wasnt fried; more soggy than anything else. And had raisins which seemed inappropriate. And some pieces of our meat were cold despite the rest of the dish being hot.

The food is REALLY good. I will definitely come back here. My boyfriend and I had two really nice servers and the food came out quickly, so they must have made some changes. I recommend the Musamun curry!

Ive been going to Bangkok several times a year for over a decade. They have never changed the quality of their food. It is always great. I always get No. 46, chicken fried rice.

Delicious and large portions Thai food! One if the only places I can find that has a calamari basil dish! Inside is small but never too busy to get a seat. Staff is friendly.

I have been eating here for more than 10 years, at least once a week. In those 10 years Ive never had an order missed or had anything but great service. The food is delicious.

Wasnt impressed. Food is bland and too Americanized. If youre looking for authentic, look elsewhere. Also, the prices are high for the area and for no more food than you get.
