I have been coming here since they opened. It has helped me immensely because I usually get glutened if I eat in regular restaurants, even when I order off the gf menu. My favorite item on the menu is the philly cheesecrepe. Their new and improved chocolate chip cookies have a good texture. The pink frosted donuts are also good. They make a roasted banana muffin that is also tasty. Sometimes they offer a special of chicken and waffles that tastes like it is not even gf! The restaurant has a Cleveland Heights vibe. I like the cute way they display their menu on a chalkboard wall. It is the kind of atmosphere that feels laid back and comfortable. Though small, I have never had to wait for a table; however, depending on the time of day and how many people are working, getting food can sometimes be slow. I think they have been hiring more people, so that seems to be getting better. One of my favorite aspects of the restaurant is that they have Friday night dinner specials. I have gotten to eat Chinese and Italian food again and they were both delicious! While the food is not cheap, you get what you pay for! The ingredients are of the highest quality and the preparation is consistent. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant, this is must see restaurant. But if you just enjoy a great local place with charm and terrific food, then check it out! My family who can eat gluten love to eat there and I have brought tons of friends there and each person has said they would run back! We are so lucky to have this gem so close to home!

Great food, service was lacking. Walked in for the first time at 10:30am on Sunday morning, no greeting, no indication of where to begin. Looked at three employees standing there for some sort of cue as to whether the menu was the sprawling thing on the wall or the paper ones by the cash register. They just looked at me blankly. I picked up two paper menus for me and my friend, looked em over and picked something out. When I went back to order, they then told me that the paper menu was only their special order meal service... Ok. Let me go back to the wall and pick again. Food was great, selection incredible, paleo and AIP even. Super well labeled, every dietary restriction taken care of. Portions were small but thats fine, was excellent food, happy to pay for quality. Also had their paleo carrot cake muffin thing - They charged me the wrong price, about a dollar more than what was marked. I only noticed this on the way out and didnt want to fuss with it. No refills on the tea... Overall a bit annoying but hope to upgrade this to a 5 star review in the future. Incredibly unique menu and food, glad to have tried this place and will be back.

Overpriced for low quality, bland food; terrible service & no A.C. Although we made reservations for "Burger Night", after standing in the middle of the place for 10 minutes, we were given a table directly in front of the bathroom and right next to the bussing station & open kitchen door. No silverware or napkins provided & dirty wet table. Hamburgers arrived without the fries or orings. One hamburger was overcooked & dry & the other was undercooked. One was missing the bacon, other missing the cheese. Waitress never checked on us to see if food was ok. When fries & orings finally arrived, orings had maybe 8 in order & looked like they were left on bottom of someone elses unfinished order. Fries had black marks on them from using old potatoes. Milkshakes had consistency of water & had big chunks of ice in them. Food very bland made w/low quality ingredients. I was nearly ran into several times by lady bussing tables & people using the bathroom. The owner did issue us a full refund but we will not be returning. This review is based solely on what I experienced at Cafe Avalaun, your experience may be different.

Im IN LOVE!!! I am GF and I was so excited to go to Cafe Avalaun after reading their wonderful write up in the paper. It did not disappoint! I have been a few times in the last 2 weeks and have enjoyed it! The owners are very nice and love what they do. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Philly Cheesecrepe, the Fast Sammy with the biscuit, and the Lemon Bar - total YUM. Maggie - the pastery chef is so sweet (no pun intended) and has created some delicious desserts. I have had and loved the Praline donut, the lemon curd powdered donut, the lemon polenta cake, the walnut maple bar and the madelines. I did not think I could eat a delicious dessert again until now... THANK YOU ALL!!! Note: I wish the hours were a little later on Friday, Saturday - maybe until 4:30/5pm would be wonderful! Or if they had "bakery hours" for example only crepes, and what is in the bakery case - but nothing made from the kitchen after 3pm, which would free up the chef/owners if they have other committments.

I love this cafe! Everything is gluten free and also specializes in Dairy free, egg free and paleo. The crepes are delish and salads are healthy good. Perfect for healthy eating to healthier cheating eating. The staff is amazing and the environment is a cute mellow cafe. Espresso and fresh baked goodies are my go to here. This is a must have for all GF/ food allergy people/Paleo for breakfast, brunch and sweet treats.

This is a favorite for weekday lunches! It can get a bit crowded so we usually try to get there a bit before noon. We came for the gluten free.... But its also a big hit with the wheat eaters at work. Do yourself a favor and order the "fancy toast". Its always changing and even though the combinations sometimes sound a little questionable I havent had one that wasnt out of this world!

Always delicious!! Best lunch ever. Healthy alternative from a local small business owner. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced. No frills, freshly made and feel good options. Especially great for those who need gluten free, personally I just love the menu, not a necessity. Couple bucks more cost for lunch than a chain restaurant, worth it in my opinion!!

The crepe we had was awesome. The service, not so much. They were more interested in talking with their friends than actively maintaining their coffee station. Free coffee refills is only appealing if they actually have coffee made. Took about a half an hour AFTER ASKING just to get a refill... And I felt like I was inconveniencing them by asking.

This place is outstanding !! One of my favorite places to go out to eat! When you have celiac disease going out to eat can be tough... food and deserts are awesome ! Never had something I didnt like here. The owners are friendly and helpful. Wish it was closer to where I live so I could go more
