My wife and I first visited this restaurant back in November 2008 and it was the first night of our Honeymoon. We had never been to NYC before and were spoilt for choice as to where to eat but after going for a walk in the winter cold we walked along Restaurant Row and decided to try out Joe Allen, On our first visit the place was crowded and with no advance booking we were very lucky to get a table. Fast forward 8 years and we found ourselves back in NYC and for old times sake we decided to go to Joe Allen as we enjoyed it so much last time. We were out a little earlier this time and the place was not as crowded and we easily got a table, but not any old table, we had the exact same table as we had when we visited 8 years previously... coincidence? again, the staff/service and food was top notch, and I would visit this place time and time again

I never write reviews but Joe Allen was GREAT! We went to Joe Allen before the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, we showed up to the restaurant early about 20 minutes before our reservation (I would highly recommend reservations) and the staff was great accommodating us early. The prices were very reasonable especially since it is so close to times square. The meal and dessert were great (I had a burger the person I was with had meatloaf) and we ordered the homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Ill be returning to Joe Allen!

We always look forward to eating at Joe Allens when we come to NYC and have been doing so for the past 35 years. We had a 7:30 reservation on a Sunday evening and they were out of both entrees we wanted that early. Then the waiter came back and said they didnt have any baked potatoes because they burned them, after which he delivered a basket of burnt bread to us. When we spoke to the manager nicely about the disappointment he just shrugged his shoulders. Sadly, after many years, our last visit.

It wasnt half as good as I was anticipating. The staff were really polite the server was a bit slow with drinks but the food came out fairly quickly. We got the guacamole which was delicious but aside from that I wasnt overly impressed with the menu and I guess I felt like if their menu wasnt impressive what was on it shouldve been outstanding (especially considering the price) and it wasnt. The food was just ok it was nothing special in my opinion

I simply love Joe Allen. The atmosphere is cozy, the fellow patrons are local and have decades of stories to tell, the wall of Flops - Broadway plays that came on stage with a bang, and quickly left with a whimper is unique and a beautiful touch of fun. The food is nice, homely, tasty - not Michelin star quality mind you, but exactly what you wanted after a play, or after a long day.

I was not impressed by this steak restaurant. I felt that the restaurant was very touristy and overpriced. The steak was $33 per person. Everything is a la carte. You have to order sides (potato, vegetable) separately. Each side is around $7. We stopped in here because we had a coupon and the restaurant always gets good reviews. I was completely unimpressed. The service was mediocre.

My family and I have been going here since I was a child (a hella long time) - the early 80s. The atmostphere is perfect for those looking for the Broadway experience, the food is amazing, and the staff are, usually, very nice. ITs a NYC staple and if anything, you should check it out just for that. I cant remember ever having anything that wasnt delicious in over 35 years.

this place is very hit or miss. but when it is a hit i wouldnt miss it. pre- theatre bar service snappy and lively, roasted beet and fennel salad with some b&b and a cold gin martini just the perfect light meal to take the edge off before braving the theatre. i cant help myself, i will keep going back here as long as this place is open for business.

Too predictable, but I assume, many people would like that. Average selection. High prices. Too typical. Too boring. For those who come to catch a play in NYC will probably do for a "New York" experience like many other places in that area. But I would definitely walk half a block further to the Hell Kitchen area to find something more authentic

Ive been there multiple times and each time I go, the food gets more and more delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful and sometimes if you are lucky, you will see Jake Gyllenhaal! Every time i come to the city i beg my parents to take me there. And dont even get me started on the food. Ranging from burgers to steak tartar! I recommend this place!

I love Joe Allens for a late night dinner after a show , or concert . The dining areas are intimate and welcoming , the bar well stocked and often crowded. Last time I started with the escargot cooked in shell , garlic and butter , followed by the wonderful meat loaf , better than moms, then a perfect crime brûlée. A City staple Joe Allens .

Love the atmosphere and the food, my favourite NY restaurant. I really like when you call to make a reservation for after seeing a show they ask what you are seeing, know what time it ends, and suggest a time so as you are not rushing. Weve always dined with a famous face or two after shows!

Fantastic food. However, was forced into a 4:30 reservation when I asked for 5:30. Literally we were the only ones there. Just wanted a quick bite and when we left at 5:30, still 80% of the tables were open. I get it, they need the theater crowd accommodated. Friendly staff.

the timing is just right for pre-theater dining. for edible eats that fill you up and leave you with carfare for the ride home, this is a sure bet. reservations needed for pre-theater, but you might get lucky as we did, and find an empy table.

Beautiful historic interior with classic long wooden bar. Food is good. Its popular with the before theater crowd. Walls are covered with Broadway Show Poster dating back in time to Broadways Hey Days.

Day 5 of our holiday in New York and this was definitely the best so far. The service was the best weve had whilst here. The food was gorgeous! Definitely would recommend this place. Loved it!

Great spot for after theater. But make a reservation! Food is always reliable. Tasty burger. A little pricey, but festive. Bring a theater friend for star spotting.

A true New York treasure. The food is good and I cant say enough about the atmosphere. Even when we didnt have a reservation we were able to squeeze in at the bar.
