I grew up in San Francisco, went to college in Los Angeles, frequently visited Taiwan for family vacations. So Ive had my fair share of party-in-your-mouth-delicious, authentic Chinese food. Using those experiences as a benchmark, I believe Chef Chan is as good as it gets here in Jax! They dont over-sweeten, over-sauce, or over-MSG their food (whew). They cook it right and serve it out piping hot as its ready. The noodles hit the spot in terms of texture and taste, the meat is flavored amazingly and properly, the rice is fluffy and aromatic, and most importantly - the vegetable stir-fries are chock full of flavor and made perfectly. You know Chef Chan is back there with his flaming hot wok making magic happen. This is (mainly Cantonese) Chinese cuisine done right. Admittedly I havent tried the other pan-Asian offerings (e.g. the Korean items or the Japanese Ramen items) - will need to adventure into that sometime in the future. And since people around here also care about the non-food things: very small dining room, but not cramped (the max group size is probably 8, and even then theyll have to shuffle some tables - Id say call ahead if youre bringing a group larger than that). Pretty decor. Clean. Friendly and attentive wait staff (they even remembered my daughters food allergy). Food comes out quickly (for Chinese food - remember that certain awesome things simply take time!). Very reasonable prices. Go get some!

*****Owner contacted me next day to attempt to correct or refund my money . in doing that Ill change my rating to a 2 star... . **** If I could rate it 0 stars and still give a review I would. I walked in and ordered my food. I ordered Chicken with Garlic Sauce and requested it to be not spicy (TWICE). I got home and took a big bite and just about died my mouth was on fire so fast, I had to spit it out. I called back to the restaurant asking was there any chance the kitchen didnt get the note. And the girl that took my order not even an hour earlier said, "they didnt get the note, because it wasnt what you ordered".. I was SHOCKED, seeing as how I specified TWICE that I didnt want it spicy, and she and I even went over the difference between the honey garlic and chicken with garlic sauce, when she stated that one was spicy and one was sweet, I asked, "can I get it not spicy"? And she said, "Oh you want it not spicy"? And I said "please".!! Needless to say I will never be returning to this restaurant, but not even because they got the order wrong. But because when I called back to ask if they got it wrong, she told me that wasnt what I ordered!! WHAT??? Horrible way to handle an upset customer!! There are 20 Chinese Restaurants in the area.... Do NOT choose this one.

If you want authentic Chinese food this is the place for you. Been here 3-4 times in a 14 day period. Being Of Chinese descent this is the place to be. Their customers are multicultural but a lot of Chinese/Asians are always eating at a table or two. That explains a lot. A little small dining get room but definitely worth the wait, especially on a Saturday night. But that way they can make each dish fresh. The service is great, Donald will make you feel comfortable and part of the gang of thats what you want or treat you like the most important customer he has... Elisa is the best... she will make sure all is good If youre looking for something quick then you might as well go to panda express or order to go.

Hole in the wall with a very large sign located in a retail plaza. There are about ten tables, but when I was there they were doing mostly takeout. The girl at the cash register is very friendly. As mentioned in other reviews, the food is about 10% more in price, but this is no ordinary Chinese takeout joint. Dont expect any combo dinners, they are only available for lunch. Be sure to order soup or an appetizer with your meal and you will not be disappointed. The food is hot and fresh and prepared with care. Its not greasy either and the portions are large. If you are ever in the area be sure to visit. They probably have the best food among 30 other restaurants in the area.

Been here three times. First time they turned the Open sign off on me as I waited outside for a friend (45 minutes before closing). As we went to go inside, they said "sorry, we are closing" Second time was a decent/quirky experience from a service perspective, but the food was better than the common "fast food" Chinese locations. Third time, attempted to order takeout, called an hour and thirty minutes before closing and they were closing early Your food is good, but it isnt worth that amount of trouble. Three strikes... aaaaaand youre outta here!

Chef Chans is my favorite place in Jax for authentic food (or as authentic as it can be in this part of the world). We ordered out on Chinese New Year and the food did not disappoint. I think the beef chow fun could use more flavor, but otherwise is tasty. Salt pepper shrimp is excellent, as are any of their eggplant and tofu dishes. Only reason for 4/5 stars is that the prices are a bit steep for Chinese food.

The best Chinese food in this area hands down. I cant speak for the service because we got carryout. We have looked for decent Chinese food in Jacksonville for 2 years since moving here. Other places in this area are not good. This one is the best weve found thus far. A bit pricey if you are concerned about a budget.

Very small, and the owner a bit straightforward- no frills kind of guy, but once you accept that, the piping hot and authentic Chinese dishes will blow you away. Perfect seasoning, not oily/light, sincere service. Sesame chicken and garlic broccoli were to die for. A bit pricey, but worth it. Will return.

Favorite Asian restaurant around, I drive all the way from the Bartram area for the take out. I work close enough and used to go all the time for lunch, but they closed their dinning room down for lunch. Wish it was still open! Four starts only because there is not dining room option at lunch time.

Absolutely love this place! A GREAT sit down chinese restaurant is hard to find in Jacksonville but you will not be disappointed here. It is owned by the people that owned Mr. Chans near Beach & Hodges. We have loved everything weve had but the Fire Cracker Shrimp is one of my favorites.

The menu has good variety of authentic Chinese dishes. The execution is so so. The service is uneven, from pompous to helpful to hurry up, pay and get out!. The waiter thinks he knows everything Chinese than a Chinese, although hes not one. LOL

Dont ask to many questions, take the food the way its meant to be made and youll love that place. If you get the owner for your server, he seems rude, but he just has a dry sense of humor. Weve been here a few times, never been disapointed!

"This is hands down the most authentic Mongolian style restaurant there is in all of jacksonville. The plates are served family style making it a fun experience. I would recommend the beef broccoli" - Ansel Ponce Diama
