Very friendly bartender who makes an effort to get to know patron. He seemed to know everyone who live on Crescent Village, the apartment complex M&P is attached to. They have specialty cocktails and a few cocktails on tap. Really enjoyed the Mexican Bishop. Its nice to be able to order food from Curry Up Now (they share the space) but I was unimpressed by their fried ravioli with tikka masala sauce ($6 for 7 small, gummy ravioli)

Finally, anything near all these living compounds. This place has a really friendly/entertaining bartender and isnt too crowded, even during hours during which youd typically expect a crowd. The place smells of curry, given its open/shared space with Curry Up Now which doesnt always pair well with the cocktails, but its still a welcomed addition to the nothingness in the area (especially when Patxis happy hour is overflowing).

Mortar & Pestle is connected to the Curry Up Now restaurant so naturally, their food and drinks draw some inspiration from India. With that said, you wont find any of their recipes crazy - just carefully made cocktails and delicious bar food with a slight twist that makes them unique. Prices are on par with other craft cocktails in the Bay Area. Try the namesake drink, Mortar & Pestle, which is actually served in a mortar.

The cocktails in their menu are amazing. I havent been disappointed by one yet. Im not one to stray away from the menu when it comes to cocktails, but Ive seen other people talk to the bartenders to get something off-menu and they seem pretty knowledgeable. They other great thing about this place is that you can also get food from Curry Up Now a great Indian street food restaurant. They even do a joint happy hour together.

We have only eaten at Curry Up Now, which is Mortar & Pestle is part of. Twice now we have ordered drinks only for them to never show up. After numerous inquiries with our waiter, he told us they were out of a certain ingredient and offered us a different drink, which wasnt good. It was a big disappointment.

The signature Mortar and Pestle cocktail is pretty much straight bourbon with lots of ice and some citrus peels -- only get this if you really like bourbon! Junkyard Heart is like a really refreshing Moscow mule! Shares a location with Curry Up Now.

This bar shares space with Curry Up Now while serving a great variety of housemade cocktails. The drinks are slightly on the pricey side but it makes for a great hangout spot for happy hours with their drinks and happy hour food menu.

Nice atmosphere, drinks are a little expensive but at least the artistically make them for the price. Finally go back again. Ohhh and they have hand shaved ice for drinks... Very cool
