Note: When I say "endless food options," thats because they allow you to bring in ANY outside food you like -- home-cooked, take-out, or even delivered right into the bar. So: Save $$$ on food = more $$$ for beer! This brewery is the anti-Mill-Ave. because it is incredibly laid back, and in my opinion, the beers are AMAZING. Many of you may be familiar with Four Peaks (which makes Kiltlifter, is the largest brewer in AZ, and is about 1 mile away), but I actually prefer Sleepy Dog not only for its tasty arsenal of beers, but also because Four Peaks is always super-crowded. Along with the laid-back atmosphere, the man behind the brewery ("Rob") is usually sitting behind the bar drinking a pint of one of his brews, and hes a pleasure to chat with. The place just opened in Nov./Dec. 2009, so they are still refining their operations a bit in terms of hours, pricing, specials, etc.

I love trying new craft beers, and would even consider myself a beer snob. That being said, I visited this place for the first time with a Groupon for a sampler (six 4 oz pours) and a free pint glass to take home. I was really impressed by the size and presentation of the samplers! Unfortunately all of the beers tasted stale and watered down. The atmosphere was casual and cozy. There were board games available, free fresh popped popcorn, and customers were able to bring/order in food because there is no kitchen. There was a major issue with the music blasting so loudly you had to yell over it, but in the same sentence drop to a whisper as the song ended and room filled with dead silence before the next song began playing. I would recommend this place to groups looking for a laid back experience, as long as they dont mind mediocre beer (at best).

Every beer Ive tried here has been great. You can have one of about 10 beers they brew on tap in addition to a large selection of micro brews in bottles from other breweries. The last couple times Ive been there they also have had 1 or 2 good beers on tap for $2.50/pint. You can also get beer to go ( I think it was $5 dollars/liter). Free popcorn and free bar snacks (party mix type stuff). And you can order or bring in your own food. Having pizza delivered is pretty common. A nice collection of board and card games are also available. The staff is super friendly, and fun to joke around with. They also have a ton of large TVs for sports, or when nothings on, they play funny movies. Its not four peaks, but its not supposed to be. Its just a nice chill spot to hang out and drink good beer. Highly, highly recommended!

Chill relaxed place with friendly staff that serve some of the best beer I have ever had. Try the wet snout (milk stout) or the leg humper (hefe). They dont serve food but its cool, bring your own food or order in (they have menus there for you), Beer nuts and popcorn (sometime brownies or other goodies) are served as well on the house. And the best part, lots of fun games to play including BATTLESHIPS! Get a crew together and play poker while being served great beer. One last thing, you can bring your own movie, and they would be happy to play it. My new favorite spot in Tempe (plus its walking distance from my house :-)

Came here at 11pm on a Wednesday night. My buddy and I were the only people in the place and sat at the bar. We had excellent service from the bartender and manager. Nicole was very helpful in helping us make our beer selection. Rocky IV and UFC were on the TV..... win. I got The Litter, which is 8 samples of their draft beers. My friend got the Yellow Tail, which was a light, easy-drinking ale. The Irish Red Ale was some of the best Ive ever had. Id recommend the Milk Stout for anyone that likes darker beers. Do your self a favor, buy the Litter for 8 bucks, and find your favorite beer.

We have been visiting microbreweries around our home, and decided to so the same on our vacation. There are so many to choose from in the Tempe area, so selected the Sleepy Dog because of the fun names of their craft beers. Liked the place alot. It wasnt large, so felt very homey. Had a waitress (unlike the ones we visit in Dallas). We had the sampler (6 tastes) which was great. They also serve snacks (we had chips with salsa and guac). They had a slide show of dogs that was quite entertaining. The pictures are from patrons (we sent in a couple of our dogs).

Great beers, great lax vibe.... That doesnt, however, mean service should be lax.... Its a drinks only establishment and the two working couldnt keep up with even that... Not because they were too busy, they chose to do other menial tasks as opposed to helping customers.... Priorities in serving guests needs to be addressed... Long waits if any kind of busy... That being said, beers are awesome and at least they were friendly(when they could be found).

I have been here three times, each time, I have joined a group already there, and been ignored by the wait staff for many minutes before I was offered service. The beer is subpar, and if you want food, you have to bring your own. Also, I have never seen the owner, even though he has been there when I was. It is said by their own staff that the owner(s) sit in the back and chat to each other without communicating with their customers.

Great place, stopped in for a few beers and was pleasantly surprised by the selection and the craftsmanship of the beers. Great alternative for beer drinking than the Four Peaks as you will not have to wait in line for 30 minutes. Though it is not a restaurant, dont be fooled they give you free snacks so you can munch while you drink. Will come back for sure when I am back in town.

Sleepy Dog has some of the best beers period. The staff is great and it has nice open seating. There’s always been seating available even during happy hour. The only downside to Sleepy Dog is that it is only a brewery. You’re more than welcome to bring in any food you want to eat but I would find that to be more hassle than it’s worth.

Decent beer and decent service. Like most Arizona Breweries, they are using Arizona water so the beer can only be so good. We sat down and 3 tables sat after us and all got served before us. We tried to order guac, they were out, after the server already told us they were out of 2 other items, when the menu is only 8 items long...

Good location with darts, board games, and some space inside. Food trucks and pizza delivery are on the menu. All Sleepy Dog brews are on tap and they have some interesting beer "mixes" to sample. Swag and TVs are everywhere and the device could use some work. Try the sampler and popcorn and move on to the next place:)

I always love a good brewery with multiple beers of multiple styles and flavors and varieties and Sleepy Dog sure does have all of that. Dont go there expecting to eat much tho. But try a beer, or all. $1.50 samples and you can get one of each. Rode my bicycle 20 miles to get there and Ill do it again.
