So apparently my yelp friends do not like this place. Ill be offering a contrasting opinion today because I had an enjoyable experience here last night. That experience was definitely helped by the fact that some random guy gave my friend and I 3 free beer tickets he couldnt use in his way out. Another bonus was the band that was playing in front of the entrance was quite entertaining. Before I even entered the place I was happy to discover that there was a beer garden in this part of Manhattan. I frequent this area and lacked a good place to grab drinks with friends. Beergarten definitely fills that void. First thing I noticed upon entering was the line to buy beer tickets. I found this to be redundant and annoying. As the night went on I realized this was actually a logical way of handling things. The line for the tickets was only about 3 mins and once you get to the bar you just order and hand the bartender the ticket. This prevents the bar staff from having to count money, swipe cards and other transactional things. This is why I was able to get beer here faster than other beer gardens. I tried a few beers but my favorite was the dark lager (black something) I forgot the name but it was tasty. 4 stars because biergarten provided exactly what I was looked for, a place to drink beer and catch up with a friend in the meat packing dist. I didnt try any food so I cant comment on that but I think the place is ran efficiently. As far as all the "douche bags" people are complaining about I didnt experience any of that. Maybe because I came to interact with my friend and wasnt really mingling with the crowd. I must say the people that I did interact with were friendly and as mentioned before one of them even gave us free beer. Bonus: Los Tacos No. 1 is around the corner. You might want to skip the sausage and pretzels and go grab some delicious tacos and cons right back and was it down with beer. Thats what I did!

As the wise founding father Benjamin Franklin once said "Beer is proof god loves us and wants us to be happy". With such wise counsel, a biergarden should be the best way to have some of that love rub off via a few drinks. Unfortunately, the Standard Biergarden doesnt pass the grade for what a biergarden should be and feels like a bit of a ripoff particularly compared to other biergardens and bars throughout the city. Although rather spacious, upon arriving at 9:30 the entire place was packed leaving our group struggling to find a table for us to sit at. Once we managed to get a spot, we went to go buy beers - or rather tickets to go buy beers. The Biergarden, somewhat confusingly uses a ticket system for their beers but not for their mixed drinks and cocktails. Each ticket is $9 and one ticket gets you a medium stein of beer, with 2 tickets getting you a large stein of beer. Disappointingly, there were only 4 beer selections on tap, as opposed to other biergardens, which have a much greater diversity of suds. The separate bar for cocktails and mixed drinks was overpriced and crowded with a basic gin and tonic costing $13 and taking too long for a bartender to ask for the drink order Bit of a fratty vibe mixed with the upscale guests of the attached hotel made it very hard to try to figure out what the Standard Biergarden was trying to be (and even harder to dress for). Overall I dont think Ill be coming back to the Standard Biergarden

Horrible experience with the personnel at the door! I have been to this place many times, and I usually invite my business associates to join me for drinks here. Yesterday, I was told I cant access the premise unless I get stamped at the door. I kindly declined, and it has never been a problem before; however, yesterday the doorman was unnecessary rude and condescending. I explained my reasoning why I am against receiving the black ink stamp. 1.Takes forever to wash off 2.I wear expensive shirts and sometimes the ink stains the sleeve. Not only the people at the door were rude, they simply did not care! One of them responded to me arrogantly making somewhat of a sarcastic  flat joke “ who are you talking to ?”  Wow, at this point I lost any interest in spending my money at this venue. Yes, I was talking but there was nobody to listen , so I walked. I walked to PHD  that night, and we had amazing time with my business assicistes. To the management: 1.Step up your game and hire people who care for your business, that night you lost loyal clients. 2.Get invisible ink stamp , we are not cattle to be stamped with black ink at the entryway!

+ nice setting, + large variety of German sausages, - not that many good German beers If you are visiting Highline Park in Manhattan and are looking for a place to rest try ‘The Standard Biergarten’ in Meatpacking District below the tracks at W 13th Street entrance/exit. In particular on a hot summer day the setting cools you off and you can satisfy your thirst with one of the three German brews they offer as a half ‘mass’ (half liter of beer). If you are hungry try one of the many German sausage variations, such as Currywurst from Northern Germany or Weisswurst from Bavaria, which are not outstanding but fair. Please note that you have to buy food and drink tickets ($8 each) at the booth next to the entrance before you are able to order. In general you spend one ticket each for a beer and a sausage dish. The Biergarten offers three beers, one light pilsener (Bitburger), a typical wheat beer (Licher Weisse), and a kind of dark amber ale (Koestritzer Dunkel – very delicious and rare to buy in the US).

In my past experiences, biergartens in the city are really not that great. The food is basic. The beers are overpriced. Its hard to find seating. Biergarten at the Standard is no different. Each beer requires a drink ticket, which is $9. There arent that many beer options to choose from. But on a positive note, my group of 5 was lucky enough to nab one end of a table. Otherwise, we probably would have left. Im old. Im at that point in life where I aint got time for standing around at bars. My ass needs to sit so that I can enjoy my drink in comfort. Otherwise, I will haul it elsewhere. Eventually, we did leave because it was getting too crowded and the ceiling heat lamps everywhere did not help the situation. I can see why people would come here if theyre in the area (which we were). If not, I dont really see a reason to go out of your way for this. Theres one biergarten in NYC which I actually like and its in Midtown. Head there instead. Or actually dont because I dont want you to take my seat.

Interesting fact: The Standard Biergarten sued DCs Standard Beer Garden for name rights resulting in the DC locations name change to Garden District. Now that I have laid some knowledge upon you, let me lay some more. The Standard has a SWANKY rooftop which I highly recommend visiting -- just turn the corner and hope the line isnt excessive. The biergarten is a ticket based system where all costs are paid up front -- 2 tickets per beer or plate of delicious bratwurst and 1 ticket for a pretzel. Each ticket is about 4 dollars so keep that in mind -- it adds up quickly. The food is fantastic, you literally can not go wrong -- both the curry brat and the original are fantastic. The beer is equally good however I was slightly disappointed with their summer offerings as I wanted a lighter beer but they were tapped at the time. The atmosphere is pretty electric resulting in a solid experience. I would definitely recommend going here!
