VERY DISAPPOINTED. We tried this place after hearing several recommendations from friends plus a relatively positive Zagat review, and doubt well ever go back. I had the "Ixtapa" and it all tasted the same...the tamale was especially disappointing - dry and flavorless, except for the red sauce that was dumped over the entire plate; the refried beans were ridiculously salty. My date had the same complaint about her meal, the "Acapulco." There was nothing special about the drinks we had heard so much about, and we had to ask for our server several times because he kept disappearing. I would understand if we were there on a packed Saturday night, but at best it was 2/3rds full. Honestly, it was like every other typical Mexican restaurant one will find in Anytown, USA.

My boyfriend took me here one year for my birthday, and it was lovely! When you walk in, it is easy to forget youre in the busy city and think youre in a quaint Mexican town. The interior is made up of earthy pinks and golds, decorated with traditional Mexican art. The food is quite special. As the appetizer, they provide chips with three different dipping sauces (the tomatillo/green sauce is addictive!). My go-to dish is the chicken enchiladas with the salsa verde -- soft, savory, with a bit of crunch on the edges. The jalapeno adds a bright spiciness that makes the dish superb! Coming to Maz Mezcal is always a treat! Its especially perfect for a date night or simply to unwind with classic drinks and authentic Mexican food.

I dont understand the good reviews on this website. Has no one had good Mexican food before? The food is very bland and boring, the atmosphere is just ok, and everything is extremely overpriced. If this were a modern interpretation of Mexican cuisine I could justify the prices, but the reality is, this restaurant is neither authentic nor interesting. A boring, bland, chicken taco for $7.00? A Corona for $7.50? A couple flautas for $20? Ive had authentic Mexican street food that would put this place to shame. Tacombi and LOS TACOS No.1 are cheaper and universally better. Top this off with a rude waitstaff and you have a 1 out of 5 star restaurant. I would highly recommend avoiding this place - its insulting.

After a long day on our feet, Maz Mezcal was exactly what we needed. A no-frills neighborhood place with decor bordering on kitschy; as with too many places, decibels are sky high. We called ahead to inquire about the wait and they put us on the list; we were seated upon arriving. Drinks are decent (house made "skinny" margaritas feature lime juice rather than sour mix for those who loathe the stuff as I do) and prices are fair. Dishes arrive quickly and piping hot; servings are generous. Pork burritos with tomatillo sauce hit the spot; arroz con pollo was good but not as good as at home. Service was a friendly and efficient.

I was very unhappy with the service, attitude, and treatment. I have allergies, and the waiter and chef were not willing to help make something fresh for me. Everything if premade. I asked for simple pico de gallo (cut up tomatoes, spice, onions) and they refused. I asked for beans to be made fresh and they refused. I asked for guacamole to be made fresh and they refused even when I asked for a simple avocado to be mashed they said no. Instead I was given shredded chicken in a corn tortilla because that was all they could do. If you like food that is fresh, I suggest skipping this restaurant.

Celebrated an "I DO FIESTA", yesterday at Maz Mezcal. The atmosphere was friendly, food delicious and the service was SUPERB. Thanks to all that helped to make the day extra special, for the Bride and Groom. One of the guests lost a heirloom ring, yesterday. Not knowing where, I called the restaurant and spoke to the owner, Maria. Her staff found the ring in the DR! Needless to say, we were surprised and elated. Kudos to the staff for being, honest. Will return and most importantly, will let everyone know about this great establishment!

I have been going to this place for 15 plus years and I can not ever think of a time where I did not love the food. The service is great and the food is delicious. The tomatillo sauce that give you with chips before the meal is amazing. They should bottle it and I would always keep it in my kitchen. They also have great margaritas which are expensive but worth every penny. I can never drink more than two. This place by far is one of my favorite places to eat and if you are in the area it is a must try.

Went to Central Park and then walked over here to eat. We were exhausted so we decided dine inside with the AC nice and cool. The decor and music set the atmosphere. Esteban was our waiter and made our experience wonderful! The food was delicious as was the presentation. One of the best dinners we have had! Highly recommended!! We loved the watermelon at the end!

The poor quality of the food was only exceeded by the rudeness of the bartender (who thinks hes a comedian entertaining the ugly and not only slightly overweight "regulars" sitting at the bar). We left after just tasting a lifeless, soggy offering and went into Ithaka where we were treated like royalty and feasted on excellent food!

This place was VERY expensive and a step under Taco Bell quality-wise. The rice and beans were completely tasteless and my $22 fish tacos (for 2 of them) might as well have been McDonalds Fish sandwiches. In fact, I would have preferred McDonalds I will never go back to Maz Mezcal again!

. We ordered expecting a legitimate mexican experience. Instead we got plane food. The food was put together sloppily and the ingredients didnt seem fresh. The serving sizes were tiny and it would take about $35 to get a full meals worth of food.

I have been coming to The Maz for many years and the food and service is always outstanding. The staff are very professional and very courteous. There is a reason why this placed is always packed- great food and a great staff!

Only ordered from maz and the only thing I ever get is the paella. Soooooo good with saffron rice and fresh shellfish. I order the half portion, which can feed two, forq $30 bucks you get half a lobster tail and tons of rice.

The staff is rude and they charge you $1.50 for a refill of tiny bowl of pico de gallo!! If you plan to go, don not ask for refills unless you want to pay more for these than your entire meal cost!

To be honest, I dont love Maz Mescals food. Its perfectly fine. My wife, Two-year-old son and I go to MM because the staff is fantastic and extremely tolerant of my sons typical toddler behavior.
