I was told about this place by family and friends or I would have never known it was there. when you drive by it looks like a dive bar. not very clean looking on outside and just has beer signs out front and in the windows. there is signs on side of building that says southside ribs, but unless your looking for it you would never see them. inside the decor is old but relitively clean. the service was good. THE FOOD WAS GREAT. I had the smoked turkey club it was huge and delicious it came with 1 side for around $9.00. I also had the bottle caps for a appetizer ( sliced battered and deep fried jalepeno,s with chedar cheese sauce on the side) they were very good. my wife had the huge stuffed baked potato. it was a meal in itself and very good. we will go back.

This place was a great deal. It was aparently a big local place becuase it was packed on a thursday eveneing. I can understand why, the prices were great and the food was pretty good. I got the pork steak dinner ($12), came with salad, 2 sides and an enormous 1 in thick x 5 in x 7 in pork steak that was cooked just right and left me very full. All their meats are smoked and come with BBQ on the side. Their motto is "Real BBQ doesnt need sauce." Their BBQ sauce is kind of like KC style: somewhat thin and vinegary, with a nice tang. Also beer was relatively cheap, $2 for a bottle of Bud.

Was invited by my parents as they told me the pork steak was huge and delicious and it was; I tried a bite of theirs. I ordered the blue gill sandwich with a baked potato and creamy slaw. The sandwich was huge and delicious and the sides were perfect too. I couldnt have gotten that much food for the price at any fast food joint. My wife got a HUGE ribeye and lived it. Wouldve paid 1-1/2 the price at another steakhouse. Service was fast, pleasant and very good. We dont eat out much as my wifes a great cook and homemade is healthier but well go back!

Ive never had a bad steak or service here until the last time. I asked for medium well doneness and got extremely well done. When I told my waitress she offered me another but I really didnt want to wait (plus I have trust issues about happens to my food behind closed kitchen doors of any restaurant after complaining) so I refused and they never offered to even discount my order. I hope that visit was a fluke. They usually have delicious food.

Best restaurant around! Excellent portions, fair prices, all the food is fresh and tastes homemade. The atmosphere i cozy and nice, with plenty of historic Sparta memorabilia. The BBQ is off the scale. It is sometimes a bit underdone, but when you get a batch that is well cooked... be prepared for the best BBQ in Southern Illinois, and that is the truth!

Great BBQ. Awesome huge tender pork steaks. The turkey bacon club is huge and is some of the best turkey I have ever had. Always freshly made. Busy place after 5 pm. Closed on Mondays.
