The ANTHEM COFFEE AND TEA HOUSE is much like the rest of Tacoma. Proud, independent and comfortable in its own skin. The city of Tacoma has always struggled with its identity against that of Seattles but, I think through that struggle, it has found itself. Especially with places like this that make up the downtown core and thusly the image of Tacoma. The Anthem sits across the street from a Starbucks but seems to be light years ahead of it as far as personality. Its soaring ceilings and industrial feel is a great fit for being connected to the Museum of History. The views off the back patio are truly a treat when the weather permits and the live bands on Friday nights make it a cool little spot to chill and enjoy a not so crowded night out. The flat bread pies (Pizza) are surprisingly well done and a treat. Plus the brown sugar lattes are addictive. (Fair warning.). All in all, if you want a true coffeehouse experience, The Anthem is worth the trip.

My favorite afternoon spot, I usually order a black and white mocha and then, when thats gone, I get a Powerhouse beer. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. I stay for an average of 4 hours, writing or working, and often come with my husband. Its always clean, surprisingly. My favorite part about it is that no matter how crowded the place is, the atmosphere is always very relaxed, but... vibrant, I guess is the word? Its a very enjoyable place to spend time. They use Dillanos coffee, which is fantastic. Ive never had a bad drink here.

This is a fun little coffee shop located on Pacific Ave next to the History Museum. They have your typical selection of coffee (Mochas, espresso, etc) but also some specialized drinks like grownup chocolate milk (chocolate cold brew) and a peach bellini. Did I mention they have alcoholic drinks? There is a small menu for food and some food items in a case to purchase (oatmeal, bagels, etc.) Baristas are always nice and the place is clean. If you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy a good cup of coffee, this is the place!

Service is always great and the staff are very friendly. They have a decent tap selection and have a wide variety of coffee drinks to choose from as well as a good food selection. The lunch menu is summed up as Naan Pizza and sandwiches. The atmosphere is a bit louder than most coffee shops but its what you expect being across from UW Tacoma. I choose this coffee shop over others in the area simply because the coffee doesnt taste burnt, also prices are cheaper than the competition across the street.

Upon the closure of Cutters Point, this has become my coffee shop of choice. I find the coffee to be brewed strong, just to my tastes. The baristas are extremely courteous and engaging; each time I visit they are actively interested in my life and my day. It is not uncommon for their cordiality to turn a quick coffee run into a sustained conversation. I would encourage others to pay this local business a visit and enjoy the ambiance, the view, and the coffee.

This business actively engages in discriminatory practices. The Ask an Atheist radio show book with them for a concert, in no way hiding anything about the show or who they were, but Anthem cancelled on them only six days from the event, making their reasons clear in the letter. While they, as a private business, are certainly free to practice their bigotry, it seems important to inform others. I would encourage anyone reading this to avoid this place.

Sister site to their Puyallup location. Offers similar offerings. Highly recommend trying the brown sugar latte - something not often found at coffee shops. The interior is open with extremely high ceilings and lots of lighting. Youd be hard pressed to find a better spot (indoors) to stop with a friend to catch up. A few pastry/food items to choose from as well.

Ive never once not been impressed by the lovely service or wonderful coffee here. Ive even had the occasional wine or cider and its always delicious and so relaxing here. Perfect for studying, a coffee date and even a solo date to just read or get away. Cutest little setting, great music choices and I love that it feels like a homey place in downtown Tacoma.:)

Had a meeting at Anthem yesterday and loved the coffee shop. Coffee was great, baristas were professional. Flatbread was real good. Great vibe. This coffee shop fits well in the downtown area of Tacoma. Id love to come back in the evening sometime to enjoy some live music.

Super cute cafe with unique industrial furniture and decor, with great service and delicious beverages. The womens restroom that doesnt lock properly was a bit annoying but I havent visited enough times to know if thats a long running problem or just a recent maintenance issue.

One of Tacomas greatest secrets. I have to say, best espresso team in Tacoma. I was raised in Seattle, and this coffee is amazing. So many places you have to order a mocha, not for the chocolate to cover the taste. This place... No sweetener, iced... Just pure taste.

They have a lot of drink options here. Its in a very cool location. You can come here for a small bite, and a coffee, and explore the museums or shops in the area. I would like to go here again, I really enjoyed my time here.

Im pretty boring with my coffee. I usually just take it straight because I like the taste of straight coffee. However, if you want a cup that will send you to the moon and back... Order a "shot in the dark".

Stop by this place in the heart of downtown Tacoma for some coffee, beer, sometimes live music. Great location, hip industrial vibe, decent prices, knowledgeable service, and caffeine. What more do you want?

Great atmosphere! I loved it, it was great place to chill out for a little bit. Had a nice location and a decent view of the downtown streets. Lots of transit right in this area. Attracts a very young crowd.

I love being referred to as "bro"! The energy of unnecessarily smiling evangelicals is so welcoming here, as well. Coffee = nothing special Staff = annoying "Book club" advertisement = Bible study

A decent place with hours which revolve around the UW campus. It is a decent joint that would be a great little bar if open later. Its in a prime location for anyone with a wait downtown.

I was there during construction, so the store was not convenient to navigate. My coffee was served without a lid, and spilled on the table. Overall a reasonable place to grab a coffee.

It had a very rustic feel to it. The architecture around it was incredibly put together and each element and object was perfectly designed to be within balance. Overall very welcoming

I like the atmosphere and the placement. It has large windows a little stage or a lot of seating. Great for studying and good coffee! Its a tad pricey but meh what isnt these days.
