Apparently Paloma Blanca is pretty popular, and now I know why. I tried this place out for lunch recently, and I was well pleased with the results. The chips and salsa are some of the best Ive had. A fresco salsa and a roasted salsa are served, and both are well above average. The chips, however, are what I appreciated the most because theyre definitely not boring. Theyre thick and crunchy and tasty, which is pretty uncommon. We had appetizers of Tacos Al Pastor, and let me tell you, this is top 7 if not top 5 in regards to Al Pastor. The meat was absolutely delicious with excellent flavor. The only thing I prefer is for the texture to be crispy from being seared on a griddle like at Taqueria Datapoint. Nevertheless, delicious with the corn tortilla. lime, pineapple, onion, and cilantro. Ill probably order this with every visit. Its worth it. The wife had mixed fajitas with steamed veggies and rice. The fajitas are some of the best Ive had at a restaurant, moist, and didnt just taste like char, which I love. The veggies were delicious and colorful, and the rice has a very strong and delicious flavor. It will throw you off as the flavor is much stronger than most Spanish/Mexican rice Ive ever had. As for me, I had grilled chicken with chipotle cream sauce and cilantro cream sauce. Im a stickler for chipotle cream sauce, and this ranks up there with the best in San Antonio - Ajuua - and is quite a bit better than the chipotle crema served at Rosarios and Los Barrios. Some people pour hot sauce on their food. I pour chipotle crema. Mmm. The chicken was a bit dry and overcooked, but its covered in crema, so Ill forgive them for that. Anyways, the cilantro crema was very good as well. The borracho beans were on point, not the greatest Ive ever had, but really good. Finally the corn tortillas were fresh and delicious in ways that most places simply dont match. We wrapped things up with their homemade tres leches. Its good... really good. Its covered in nuts ironically enough, and the sweetness of this version of tres leches was somewhat less than others I have eaten yet deeper in flavor. The cake was very moist and there is enough leche in the plate to sop up with your cake. In short, Paloma Blanca is neck-and-neck tied with my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in San Antonio, which is Ajuua. Way better than Blanco Cafe or Los Robertos or any of those places. My current top 5 Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants remain: 1) Taqueria Datapoint, 2) Ajuua, 3) Guallijos, 4) Cascabel Mexican Patio, and 5) Taqueria El Chilaquil

Where to start. We took our father to celebrate his birthday. We waited in the bar area and were told someone would come take our drink order. No one ever showed up so we went to the bar and tried to order but the bartender was always in the back. We were seated around 30 minutes later. Our waiter brought us water but didnt bring enough for everyone. My father ordered coffee and asked for sugar several times but our waiter never brought it. His coffee got cold and he asked for another cup. My husband had to go to the front to ask for sugar. Our waiter took our appetizer order and said hed come back to take the rest of our order but he was a no show. My father asked a different waiter to take our order. We had already been waiting for a long time. Our food finally came out and it was COLD! it was some of the worst food weve had in a long time. None of us finished our food. Oh, and did I mention that there were flies everywhere. We will never go back again. The decor and the restaurant itself is very pretty but the food was awful. The service was even worse. Our waiter was terrible. The only reason I give the restaurant one star is because the tres leche cake was good. Makes me wonder if it was brought in from a bakery near by.

You cant beat the food…amazing. Waitress was great also. However, tonight was not a shining moment. Was eating inside and two women sitting outside, were letting their kids run outside all over the patio. I didnt really care until they started playing inside and running back and forth beside of us..where we were trying to enjoy dinner. I asked the lady manager over to the table and she was very reluctant to say anything to the women about their children. I asked her if one of the children were injured or if they injured someone else and she still didnt really seem to care. She said, "I will mention something to them, but I cant make the stop." As she walked over to the table, it was obvious they were regulars as the one lady put her arm around the manager. Kids stopped for 3 minutes and they were back playing, running inside and outside, playing on top (yes on top) of the fountain, through the flower beds etc. My two dinner guests, both from Utah, were just as surprised and disappointed by the lack of care from the manager as I was.

There is no excuse: Mexican food is cheap, and even if they serve it to you on a silver plate in a superbly fancy restaurant. There is so much you can pay for guacamole and chips. Now, dont get me wrong, the food was OK, but its just ordinary Mexican food. Starting by the chips, they were thick (a plus), with two types of salsa (one tomato based and the other chipotle based), pretty good. I had the enchiladas tradicionales which were average (can get the same around the corner of my home for less). We also had the botanas (which were also average). Finally, the mole. You measure the quality of a Mexican restaurant by the mole, and this place failed the mole test. It was too sweet, seemed like we were having dessert instead of an entree. Now the good: service was outstanding, and the ambiance was very upscale. Bottom line: food is food, and it doesnt matter how much you embellish guacamole: its still an avocado salad and should be charged as such.

**IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE: the chips that come to the table when you sit down are flour, not corn. They look, feel, and taste like corn, and with the low lighting it is absolutely impossible to tell that they are not corn chips unless someone in your party knows that they are flour. I have never, ever been to a Mexican place that serves flour tortilla chips and was not even remotely expecting that; additionally, although flour chips are usually pretty obvious, these are VERY similar to corn. Ive been gluten free for years and couldnt tell at all. In addition to the misleading chips, the service was very slow--it took nearly an hour to order, forty five minutes to get our food, and another forty five minutes or so to pay. The food is very good, but by the time we finally got it, we were too frustrated (and, in my case, sick from the flour chips) to really enjoy it.

Very fancy pants kind of restaurant. The server was very kind and was the only highlight of our meal. We were initially sat near the entrance outside which I dont even know why they bother having a table there. Not cool at all. The inside has a large lounge, which I honestly thought I walked into a "cougar" meeting. Bizarre... Anyhow, the chili relleno was below mediocre and didnt come with guac salad which is pretty typical, but still managed to cost $14. My husband had their enchiladas dimas which was pretty good. We sat on the patio and its so lovely that they allow people to smoke cigars- NOT. The chips were REALLY hard, one of the salsas were really watery, the smokier one was better. I guess its not Taco Cabana, but I honestly expected more.
