Quite possibly the worst breakfast experience I have had in my adult life! The staff seemed upset or agitated from the moment I walked in the door. I had to ask whether or not I was to seat myself. It took a few minutes for me to even be recognized as a customer let alone be asked if I wanted something to drink. I finally ordered a basic breakfast after repeatedly telling the staff member that I was new to the restaurant and had no idea what the specials were. I received overcooked bacon, stiff sausage, eggs that were covered in shredded cheese instead of cooked with cheese like I asked, and raisin toast that was so hard I could barely consume it. The grits were not cooked in salted water so it took almost two tablespoons of seasoning to make them edible. The water cup had lipstick from a previous guest on it. I asked for decaf coffee and never received a refill. As a matter of fact, the waitress never came back to the table. I ended up paying for my meal by calculating the items myself and leaving that plus tax on the table and simply walking out. I have never been treated so badly or experienced such horrible tasting food in my life! Will not return!!!

I have visited Midtown Bar & Grill for the first time, since it has been under new ownership. I was very impressed by the menu choices, and the prices were very inexpensive. Wow, I couldnt believe it stayed open for 24 hours. As I observed the other customers meals as well as my own, I noticed the portions of the food was a nice size. I am normally a difficult person to please with my taste buds, and the food I ordered was the Chicken Fried Steak Platter. The chicken fried steak was larger than I expected, and very tender, and it came with two sides. The grilled vegetables were awesome and the black eye peas were the best, Ive tasted in a while. The restroom and the entire restaurant was very clean, and I enjoyed being greeted as soon as I walked inside the building. My server was very friendly, attentive, and I received everything that I asked for in a timely manner. The staff all looked friendly, which made the atmosphere pleasant along with the wonderful music. I will definitely be back to visit, and I will recommend the restaurant to others and bring my Women Leadership Group back for a meeting there.

I have been going here for many years. (It was previously called West Gray Cafe before an extensive renovation. The menu is nearly identical with many nice additions) I really like the staff and everything I have ever ordered here. Breakfast is excellent at any time of day. They are good at cooking the bacon to order (crispy or not). The eggs, hash browns, pancakes, french toast, grits and biscuits are all good. Real butter is available at your request. Not a fan of the breakfast sausage - bland and texturally odd. The lunch menu has good burgers, good sandwiches and salads. The Shrimp po-boy is surprisingly good. The Gyros are good, too. The Dinner menu has excellent chicken fried steak and chicken tenders and a good shrimp platter. The fried Saganaki cheese appetizer is great. My favorite place to grab a bite in town. Great prices, atmosphere and food.

Classic diner style no frills spot. Will get you full for the start for the work day or reverse that hangover late at night. Nestled in one of the older parts of town it is really nice to see that an independent spot is still hangs in there with the new spots in town. If you are on a diet you might wanna consider a cheat day. I am all about the bacon and eggs, the omelette, burgers are good, nothing is at all super boogie rather just a better version of a chain breakfast place. Then again Im a little bias because I support small business. The service has always been nice and fast. I guess when you take the fancy plating and art of cuisine out of it things move a bit faster. Short order cooking has been a lost art lately in Houston. Probably because of the trend towards more complicated things.

Was really disappointed considering I used to Bragg about this place to tourist and residents. The chicken fried steak was not crispy but soft and mushy. Pressed the top with a fork to find it full of grease. On previous visit to hash browns were cruchy from extreme overcook and manager said she would make it up to me another visit but on that visit she had forgotten about it. Manager on this vi sit gave me $2. discount which was thoughtful but shouldve been free since I could only take 3 bites of it before deciding I couldnt eat it and asked for check. Friendly staff however and cool place if you want to hang out with ppl from neighborhood but Im done trying to eat there anymore and doing this review from nearby restaurant after wasting hard earned money there.

At first the place seen a bit out dated, but it give a hometown feel and Tommy the manager and Pam are like your best friends! A easy going service give you less stress then most fast pace restaurant. Its open 24/7! It kept all my friends happy, because they can stay as long as you can. Late night is like Funplex! All type of folks come to the Midtown for late night bite. The food is quick served and hamburger is yummy. I been going there for over 10 years now and its one of Houston best kept secret. It located in the heart of Montrose/Midtown! The second floor party room held Karaoke on Friday night and Open Mic on Wednesday. If you want to host a group of friends to have a bite, cool to drink and chat all night! This is the spot.

If I could give this place less than 1 star I really would. I have never had worse service anywhere ever in my life. Drink order came out messed up. Food was good. Until we tried to close out the tab. They tried to charge us $10 for a shot of WELL tequila. When we argued the charges the manager became instantly rude. After arguing for a while she said she would lower the price to $8. That is absolutely ridiculous for a well tequila. Our group was made up of all bartenders, its not like we dont know what were talking about. I will never return to this place.

They tried to charge us for a $90 tab for 4 drinks and three plates of food. They wouldnt talk to us about licencing and wouldnt give us the owners information. They had NO manager on duty and apparently charge $10.00 for a WELL drink. This place is absolutely outrageous and a group of 7 people will be reporting to the news for a no licensed, no priced, place. They immediately shut down the bar as soon as we started complaining about the outrageous price.. I eat in high star restaurants and my tab is NOT $90+. Do not eat here. Horrible pricing.

This place was okay. I did not have a good experience because my order was forgotten about multiple times on a day where it wasnt busy. The server was apologetic and the owner seemed like a nice guy, however given the competition in the area and the fact that I was nearly driven to madness I cannot justify giving a better rating. I hope that you have a better experience in the event you still decide to go. I heard the chicken fried steak is pretty good, if they can remember to cook it for you.
