I stumbled across Hot Breads Bakery and Cafe while looking for new dosa places to try around Houston. If you dont know what a dosa is, its a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils and typically filled with vegetables, potatoes, and/or meat. I was really happy with the private parking lot with plenty of spaces, and I really liked the small cafe feel of the Indian-style bakery. They had everything from an assortment of breads, cakes, samosas, and other snack foods out on display. I chitchatted with the owner for a bit and found out this place had been open for about a year now. I came on a weekday in the early afternoon with a fellow dosa addict. They offer a variety of vegetarian dosas as well as meat ones. Their meat supply is from a halal source, so you are safe to eat meat here if youre Muslim. I personally ordered the Pepper Chicken Dosa (medium spicy) for $8.29, and my friend ordered the Chicken Tikka Dosa (mild) for $8.29. The dosas came with two chutneys and also a small bowl of korma. I was told by the owner that if ordering a vegetarian dosa, it would come with a small bowl of sambar instead. The dosas were wrapped more like a sandwich wrap than the typical dosa Im used to, but I liked it. The Pepper Chicken Dosa was pretty spicy, so I wish I had ordered the more milder Chicken Tikka Dosa instead. I can usually finish a dosa in one sitting, but I was pretty full after eating half. It really is filling. Overall, for the price and quality of Hot Breads, its a winner, and Ill definitely be coming back to try more items on their menu. My friend also got two croissants; one stuffed with chicken and the other with goat. She said they were good and "like Im eating lunch for breakfast." However, she said not to heat them up too long, or "they will become too oily and you will feel more disgusted with yourself." WTF! What to order: -Chicken Tikka Dosa for $8.29 Pros: -Private parking lot -Unique Indian-style bakery with plenty of options Cons: -None

I think this is one of good and authentic places that serves a variety of Indian Bakery food, that taste as close to the original Indian food you find in India. I placed a catering order here and they were ready to customize my order to a less spicy level, since it was for a kids birthday party. The food tatsed good. However, after much consideration around the way food is cooked, I decided to give them a 3 star rating. Even though they have an open kitchen and most of the preperarion happens on he outside which customers can see(This only would be done if they can maintain a clean kitchen) they do not wear head caps and this raises a concern from a hygiene stand point. So far, I have not faced any issues with the quality of food. But if the head caps were implemented it only increases the customer satisfaction and thus an increase in their business.

I went to Hot Breads for the first AND LAST time earlier this afternoon. I went to this restaurant to get my lunch and was given terrible customer service by the store staff. First, I was treated coldly from the second I stepped inside, as if I was the one doing him a favor. Then the counter person.gave me the wrong change on my order and he didnt believe me until I showed him that I hadnt received all the money he was supposed to give me. Finally he failed to apologize for his error and was aloof once I left. To top it all off, he didnt even warm up my food, which wasnt all that good to begin with! I wouldnt recommend anyone go into this store with no customers as theyll likely go out of business if the service I received is any indication.

Stale cakes and bread...I tried 5 times out of which 3 times they sold stale products and even 1 time the bread got fungus the very next day. I tried their chat chole batura once and it tastes ok but the size is very less(better go to any restaurant on hillcroft).Their chicken biryani is good but they have reduced their quantities only sufficient for kids less than 10 years(they keep on reducing quantities..I tried 3 times)..I complained about these to owner but no use. They will be soon out of business if quality and quantity are not maintained.

I gave them 5 stars previously but seeing the degrading quality I have decided to edit my review. My issues are: there are hair in the food sometimes. No one in the restaurant wears the caps to keep hair off. They heat the food in Styrofoam bowls which is heavily carcinogenic. The sales is low so they keep most of their stuff frozen and microwave the food before serving. I got an unset stomach after having their food. Overall very bad.

Guys, Hot breads at Westheimer Road is the authentic one as the one in Tamilnadu. Pls dont get confused with the one in Hillcroft. The food here is amazing and has the perfect chennai taste. The person at the counter is so customer-friendly and I simply love the service. I would recommend this place for those who would like to have an authentic taste of Chennai.

Worst food ever...shud have been to shiv sagar or bombay sweets.. I never had so bad vada pav or pav bhaji..guy at the counter seemed not interested and food tasted bland and tasteless...if you want cheap food go to balaji bhavan or shiv sagar..if u do not mind payin extra bucks, i suggest you go to Pondicherri/Indika/kirans or london sizzler...

We ordered my sons birthday cake from here. The owner is really friendly guy. He showed us pictures of all the cakes they had made and allowed us to taste a few flavors. The cake we ordered came out exactly as we wanted. Cream used was fresh and light. Cake was perfectly sweet, not too much. I highly recommend Hot breads for custom cakes

Yesterday I celebrated my daughters second birthday at this place. In a short notice they decorated cake so beautifully for my daughter, I was impressed. Food was awesome in taste everybody loved it. This is the right place to get eggless and yummy cake. If you have small group and to get private space this is the right place.

Had a very pleasant experience when I ordered birthday cake and croissants with them. The owner and the staff were very friendly. The order was ready (on time) and fresh. Everyone at the party, without an exception, asked the name of the shop that made this cake and croissants. Thank you.

Incredible customer service. I have never experienced this level of friendliness, politeness, respect, and genuine care from the owner of an establishment before. Not to mention that the black forest cake was unfathomably scrumptious. I cant wait to try all the other delicacies!

An excellent collection of South Indian pastries and puffs, all fresh and tasty! They make eggless cakes as well! We had the Paneer panini, mix veg puff , channa batura and veg pizza- all of them were tasty and served hot! Check RC k out their dessert section as well.

One of the best Indian fast food in the region. And that speaks something, coz Houston has a lot of variety in terms of Indian food. Reasonably priced as well. The best thing is, owner and staff are extremely friendly and personable.

Dosas, biryanis and chat is so authentic and tastes like it does back home. Have been ordering birthday cakes for my son for the past two years. Unbeatable taste and not overtly sweet. Very friendly and welcoming environment.
