Recently moved to Reading and are trying different restaurants. We decided to try Hitching Post. I ordered the 6 oz filet for $26 and my husband ordered a pasta arrabiata dish for around $20. My steak was pretty good and pasta dish was good too. However, my baked potato wasnt hot and was dry and mealy. Extra bitter and sour cream didnt make it taste any better. They only offer one vegetable a day and 3-4 different kinds of potatoes. When we went it was green beans with stewed tomatoes. The beans were pretty good but didnt much care for the tomatos. Bread was crusty and delicious along with the accompanying dipping oil. Salad was okay - mixed greens but blue cheese dressing was outstanding. No dessert lister on the menu. Waitress brought us a platter of 5 different choices. I chose the cheesecake with the berry sauce. It was thick, dense and was just like the New York style I love. Hubby had peanut butter bomb which he loved. The place is very noisy and it was difficult to hear anything. The prices are way too expensive for what you get. $20+ for pasta is ridiculous. I was not really impressed.

Extremely disappointed tonight. My husband has been ill for a few months and now that he is feeling better we ordered from one of our favorite restaurants but what a surprise. Ok, we did take out but everything was dry. Had the chicken pecan which was more pecans and Brie cheese than chicken. Mashed potatoes were Ok but the veggies had absolutely NO flavor. Chicken in the Piccata was almost done and these was no sauce on the pasta. The spinach artichoke dip was more cheese than anything. In our 5 month absence from eating here we noticed the menu had not changed, in fact some items were gone from the menu. Not to mention when I called in our order I was told 15-20 minutes (takes us longer to drive there) and I had to wait more than 10 mins then Aphasia to ask for my order, Bartender was more interested in counting her tips , which included our tip, then worrying whether we got our take out order. I really have a problem going back to restaurants that I consider extremely poor and tonight the Hitching Post fits that bill.

This location has had a higher turnover rate than the New York Giants last year. Finally someone has fumbled onto a good idea this time. The hitching post is a little more upscale than previous restaurants at this location and with the increase in price has come better service and better food. All of the staff are very attentive and helpful. I have not had a bad meal here yet. Most recently I ate the sesame encrusted tuna and it was delicious. They have a decent beer selection and an excellent bar. I hope this place stays here for a long time to come.

The bread was dried out. We both ordered the fish and chips and we were both disappointed. We got our salads and before we had even gotten done pouring the dressing, the entree had arrived. The chef seems to be under the impression that the "chips" are supposed to be actual chips instead of fries. The fish itself was very greasy and not even very warm. The green beans had marinara sauce on them because: well, why not? Overall, the waitress was nice and that is the only good thing I can say.

We had Great appetizers...crab bites and calamari plus their white sangria. The crab bites were bigger than bites- larger than a golf ball and all crab meat. Highlight was the calamari...and Im not a calamari fan! Nicely done, not oily, bit mixed with spinach, tomato, onion and sweet potato fries...this is a calamari that I dont mind eating...lovely in fact. Sangria was perfect, generous glass, not too sweet...just right. Cute place, outdoor bar, cozy interior...we will go again

What a wonderful surprise to find a non-chain restaurant with so many tempting menu items and a wonderful selection of nightly specials, reasonable prices, a very representative wine list and attentive skilled service. I have eaten dinner there on 4 occasions since the end of August and each time was better than the last. I can highly recommend this restaurant. BTW I travel 40 miles to eat dinner here and find it well worth the trip!

Great American food, and excellent wait staff. Outdoor seating is very comfortable, and indoors is spacious as well. You never feel crowded, which is a big win for a restaurants atmosphere. Wings with Thai sauce were a great appetizer, and my salad entree was well portioned and delicious. Tapas apps were only so-so. Well worth the price.

It is a beautiful building with great decor, with food that somehow surpasses all of your expectations. Most entrees range in price from 15-25 dollars and they have seafood, Italian, and steaks, along with a burger lineup. I highly recommend the Chicken Pecan with pomegranate sauce. Amazing experience.

Our favorite place for date night and special occasions. Great bar and high top tables for a quick bite. Outdoor patio. Large dining room. Amazing atmosphere, food and drinks. Amazing menu. Food is to notch and cocktails are just as good. Specialty cocktail menu. Really good martini!

The food we had was great and the drink selection was too. Very friendly service and they didnt kick us off of the patio when we hadnt realized how far past closing we had accidentally stayed. (sorry about that)

Aside of the great food and drinks theres the fine entertainment. And above all its staff and the clientele and their excellent bar servers makes this a fun place.

Excellent service. Excellent food. Lunch portions generous enough to share. Decent prices. Nice enough place to dress nicely. Mellow enough vibe for jeans.

If you dont mind overpaying for mediocre food then come here. Service was okay but in our party of six, four of them did not enjoy their food.

Food was so so. The fish was undercooked. Chicken was stringy and almost chocked on it couldnt cut it.
