This Resturant has changed considerably in the attitude of the wait staff. In the old days the chef would send out house items during your meal which were amazing. Those items added to the maindishes-- if not out did them. Sadly, this doesnt seem to be the case anymore. Make sure to get a reservation and try to get in for the first of the night so the staff isnt tired and frustrated. The store front give the appearence that the establishment is little more than a hole in the wall. Once inside it feels like a typical found in every town sushi resturant. It is not until you try the sushi that you will see the how wonderful this place is. Trying the boring salmon tuna anything will surely not entice you to return as trying sushi that you are afraid to try elsewhere. If you have never had "fatty tuna" at another place or were disatisfied, try it here! Surely the freshest I have had in Pa even better than the blue fin that Ooka bought recently. The wait staff does get frustrated with ill behaving children and indesicive patrons that have little to no sushi experience when the rush is on. It is a well deserved frustration after you see the amount of people they serve, the caliber of sushi, and the small room/waitstaff on hand. As always I had my 2 year old with me and he was well behaved with his edamame and rainbow roll. The staff ws suprised at his behavior but were obviously displeased by the other children there. Dessert was a piece of Tempura banana for every one there served "on the house" One piece did not satisfy me as it is my favorite dessert. Asking the server for an entire banana as a portion proved to be too difficult and ended in a mutual frustration. Do not order a soda so you can truly enjoy the flavor of the fish. Do yourself a favor and brush up on traditional japanese sushi practices (as far as eating and preparing individual portions) so you can truly understand what a great sushi experience is! Shira

Bluefin offers a tantalizing selection of sushi, wonderfully fresh and tasty sashimi and a savory cornucopia of excellent Japanese inspired Asian-fusion delights. Make sure you check out the specials board located next to Bluefins sushi bar as you may discover a delightful treat not always located on their standard menu. The staff is always friendly and helpful and will provide you with guidance if you are a sushi novice or you can just ask Yong, the master sushi chef, for one of his specialities and your taste buds will be overwhelmed with joy! Id recommend reservations for dinner because Bluefins popularity continues to grow you dont want to be caught watching other sushi fans satisfying their palettes while your waiting and salivating. The Bluefin Restaurant is BYOB. Its OK to bring a little cooler with beer (I like Sapporo with my fish and friends), a bottle of wine (Bluefin will provide an ice bucket if you like your white vino continuously chilled) and dont forget to bring along some sake. Bluefin will heat it for you if you like your sake warm or hot and will chill it for you if you like cold sake (a good bottle of of the latter is my personal favorite - sharing is encouraged!!!). Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the meal. ENJOY! PS Bluefin is closed on Sundays.

Ive been to blue fin several times and have recommended bluefin to all of my Philadelphia friends and clients. I live in Florida and everytime I come back to where I from , I make it a point to come here. I didnt have a reservation since I was dining alone. I simply asked Sam the hostess if there happens to be a place for me to sit and have dinner. I order the say thing everytime. Spicy tuna sundae and the davitch roll. She didnt even look and said no immediately. So I waited around for about 10 mins and said Ill be done dinner In 20 minutes. So anyone that had a reservation I wouldnt inconvince. Bottom line is the owner and Sam are not nice and have lost my customer loyalty and will never recommend anyone eat here again. Sam btw will ruin Blue Fins customer service.

The Original Blue Fin, has a well deserved reputation for being the best Sushi in the Philadelphia area for many reasons. The freshness and quality of the fish, and the creativity is second to none. Combine that with an amazing Chef and hosts (Yong and sister Sam), a fantastic crowd and "buzz", AND, an absolutely beautiful restaurant…always the perfect experience. Its also BYOB and dont be surprised by the rare, overly friendly atmosphere where customers are sharing great wines. I did try Bluefin2 in the old location and was a little disappointed--while it was good, there is no comparison, its a whole different level and experience. I think Ill stick with the original. Tuna Sundae, Spinning Shrimp are a must!

The only thing negative about this place is it is hard to get in; which is also a good thing. The sushi is amazing and the staff is always super nice. We have always gotten great service here. This is a BYOB so make sure to pick up what you want on the way. My suggestion: call to make reservations at least the day before or you wont get in until 9:30 at night. Not a sushi place where you see EVERYTHING. This is more a specialty dish place. If you are looking to try new rolls or entrees and are a sushi lover this is the place. If you are just starting on sushi this may not be for you.

great sushi but most likely the most worst... By luis - Feb 5, 2010 Id like to respond to this post. Having dined numerous times over the past 5 plus years I have nothing but great experiences. Young and his staff have always been great. Im also a product of the restaurannt business, Id probably agree with the server. Get the F out already, as other patrons were probably waiting to be seated and YOU the idiot taking your good old time leaving. Thats just rude. say your fing goodbye some where else. Young.... keep up the great work Gary and Char.... long time customers...

CRAZY GOOD (Expensive) Sushi! Worth the extra dough for the absolute freshest sushi in the area. Service is always great. Creative rolls and specials everyday. Doesnt look like much from the outside (sushi in a stripmall?) but the inside is cozy. Speaking of cozy, dont even try to get a table without a reservation, even on the weeknights. Its a BYO so dont forget your bottle. Bringing champagne or white wine? No problem. Theyll give you an ice bucket.

This place is simply the best. The freshest sushi. Melts in your mouth. I have been ruined by blue fin. Any other sushi restaurant cannot measure up. I have become such a sushi snob after eating here. The owner yung is so welcoming and always greets us even though he is often very busy. Sam is the best.. She really runs the show and makes sure youre nothing but happy while enjoying your meal. I

Was excited to go here, I heard nothing but good things. The lobster Mac and cheese was amazing. Our service unfortunately was not. The sushi came out 10 minutes apart from each other. The sushi was good but a little over priced. This place didnt really blow me out of the water like I expected. I think maybe we just ordered the wrong items and had a bad server. Not sure if I would go back.
