I have gone to this restaurant a total of 4 times. Every single time we had to wait over 20 minutes to place our order. We have gone 2 times when no one was there and two times when they were busy. The service is extremely slow and unprofessional. The food is marginal. Nothing great nothing terrible. The third time we went, we sat in the bar thinking that might expedite service. The cook came out of the kitchen, poured herself a beer (at 11:30 a.m.) pounded it back and went back into the kitchen. She did nod and say hi, someone should be out in a minute. 10 minutes later an unapologetic waiter showed up. The last time we went was the worst. The waiter lost our order. 40 minutes later we asked about it and he said oops it got pushed back, but he would hurry it up. It showed up about 10 minutes after that, fish and chips, undercooked. We ate the fries and the coleslaw (starving) and asked for the check. The waiter asked if the fish was ok, and we said it was not cooked. Big Mistake. He takes the food to the Cook/Manager who comes out like something from a cartoon, carrying the dish in his right hand and calling out loudly "Who has a problem with the Fish?" My husband was trying to explain that it wasnt cooked all the way through and this guy starts arguing with him. Wow. My husband says just give us the check and this guy says "CHILL OUT" I said What? and he says he is trying to work with us but if we are going to have attitude we can just leave. We happily did. As we were leaving the customers next to us were shaking their heads and saying "unbelievable" Needless to say, we will not be going back there. When I relay this story at the Dentist, the salon, at coffee etc. It always gets a great laugh, when I portray the guy with the plate in his hand calling out "Who has a problem with the fish" Hysterically funny actually. This guy actually thinks he is management material. Apparently, so does MeMenamins

I really wanted to like this place, and I almost did. The food was good, the place is really charming, the guy who sat us (with the ponytail) was really nice, but our waiter was really rude. It took him 15 minutes to come take our drink order and by that time we knew what we wanted to eat, but he just said, Im not doing that right now. Then another 10 minutes he dropped our waters, 10 more for our actual drinks and THEN he would take our order. My friend got a drink from the bar that had almost no alcohol in it so we had to pay their outrageous prices for another one with extra shots so it was twice as expensive. I finally asked if he was super busy because he was being so rude, but we have all worked service positions so while I couldnt understand him not saying Im sorry or explaining anything I really wanted to like this place. He said they were a small place only two on staff so he was cooking and tending bar and taking orders, so I tried to cut him some slack, but he was rude twice more to my husband when we were trying to get the check and pay him so we could leave. The McMenamins idea is great, the place is beautiful and charming and the food is good, but either hire more help or learn to talk to people like you actually want them sitting there in the 2 seconds worth of time you do have to make eye contact with them. /rant

Met some people here about 15 minutes after they arrived. They had received their meals but didnt have silverware. It had been quite a while since they asked. So I went and rummaged through things to find their silverware and, in the meantime, ran into a waiter who got it for them. One person had ordered a strawberry iced tea and Im pretty sure it didnt have iced tea. Im pretty sure it was strawberry water. The other ordered a Moscow Mule and received a mojito. So, all in all, the service and accuracy was horrendous. Not the first time Ive had bad service at a McMenamins. Typically the bad service is "quaint" and "unique." You know, like you kind of expect it at a hipster, eclectic restaurant. But this service was down right embarrassing. Oddly enough, other times Ive been to this location service was reasonable. When the waiter asked if I wanted a drink (which I planned on having) I declined. It was just better the way things were going. Google just asked me for a review on the night the service was comically horrendous. So this is it. Ill try the place again, everyone has bad days, but Id hope they can get their act together. If not, there are other bars with decent food in the area.

Celiac Disease patrons beware! I am a Cosmic Tripster working on completing my second Mcmenamins passport. For the second time, when having my free sandwich after visiting the Salem McMenamins, I have been served regular, glutinous bread. 2 years ago, this happened at the Boones Treasury, where staff was very apologetic and comped our drinks. I was sick for 1/2 a week afterwards. Today, it happened at Thompsons brewery. I was sick before I left. They brought out a new sandwich, as I knew after 1 bite the sandwich was not gf (even though she said it was when she served me, but then double checked with the cook, and found it wasnt after I expressed my concern), and couldnt eat much of it at all. I wish that the Salem McMenamins staff took more care, caring for Celiac Disease Patrons, and I hope others with Celiac Disease have safer, more hospitable experiences than I have. Stay Healthy!

Im a regular at this establishment and Im very disapointed that the management hasnt opened their eyes to see that the staff is always running furiously around performing their job duties as well as trying to focus on customer service. Is poor service due to lack of employees a buisness strategy to gain more customers? Who knows what the heck the owners are thinking! So... If youre on ANY kind of schedule, dont even consider this place. If you want food variety, dont choose this place. The menu is always the same and its only average. If you want good service, forget it. If you want hard working, friendly servers, YES, this is the place. The truth sometimes hurts.

Do not go here!! We went here last night for a celebratory dinner and wanted to spend some money...so we sat at our table for over 15 minutes watching everyone around us being helped and not once did someone come help us!!! 3 different waiters walked by our table, looked at us but didnt greet us nor did either of them come wait on us! We ended up leaving due to no customer service...we will absolutely NEVER come back here again! Their food is definitely not worth waiting that long let alone good enough to be ignored by their staff.

Parking can be a real pain here and if you have a car that set a little on the low side watch when youre going in and going out when it comes to the alcohol they make great beer but their prices seem to be a bit on the high side as far as the food goes hamburger or good some of the other items and which I havent had but I brought a friend for fish and chips and it seemed a big greasy and yes sometimes service here can be on and off and they really need to fix that otherwise give it a shot
