Visited this restaurant for the first time Friday, November 13 at 7:15 pm. If I could give it minus stars I would it was that bad. When my party (three adults) arrived there was one couple waiting. We were told we would be next and to have a seat in the area going back to the bar. The couple that had been waiting was seated almost immediately. Didnt look at my watch but our wait was an extended one, finally a booth opened up and as we stood up to go get it a party of five came out of the bar and was seated. So much for us being next to be seated. After another extended wait, we finally got a booth. A waitress greeted us from another booth and said she would be with us shortly. After yet another extended wait, she took our drink order (water, hot tea and unsweet tea) our appetizer order (fried eggplant fries) and our regular order (three of the surf and turf specials) We got our drinks pretty fast, although she delivered the water and unsweet tea to the wrong people at the table. No straws, had to ask for sweetner for the tea and cream for the hot tea. Another waitress brought out the appetizer. No silverware, no plates. Either the appetizer had been sitting or it was because the egg plant was cut so thick but it was soggy and mushy with very little flavor. Although the chutney that came with it was great. We were using napkins as plates when the original waitress finally realized we didnt have silverware or plates. She brought those and our meals at the same time. We all three ordered the surf and turf special which was a steak with a sauce over it, three grilled shrimp, with sides of 1 teaspoon of wilted/steamed spinach and about a cup and a half of grits. At the last minute we had all changed our minds and ordered the special and it was my fault that I didnt listen to what the sides were. I dont eat spinach or grits so I left those. The steak was cooked correctly (Medium) but very grainy, wouldnt say tough but definitely chewy. The waitress was great in keeping us in drinks and bringing us our bill timely. The three shrimp and the unsweet tea was excellent. Was the meal worth $78.00 NO WAY. Will I be back NO WAY.

Have eaten here before, Good food for the area but as soon as the place is more than half full, all efficiency hits the fan. Tried to eat there this evening but it didnt happen. We walked in and were told to sit anywhere we liked, we made eye contact with the waitress. We took a table outside close to a group that was about to get their food. The same waitress delivered food to the table next to us and came to that table three times but no one ever came over to us. We sat there for 15 minutes and no one came over to greet us. A table that had sat inside the same time as we walked in had their drinks as we were leaving. They seemed to be extremely understaffed. I truly felt like the 2 waitresses working were too busy to even take care of us. SOOO we went to the joint next door (which is under the same ownership) Ive been there many times. I will leave a separate positive review for that bar, because frankly I will never waste my time at the Local Joint again when I can get better service and the same food 2 doors down. For a Monday night, your staff being too busy to take care of guests in a restaurant that isnt even full shows that the management was clearly underprepared to have their doors open. Ill consider trying again to test the waters but not anytime soon.

I have no idea what the people who complain about service are talking about. I stop by The Local Joint every time I am in town. Service has always been great. Im not one of those people that needs to be checked on every 5 minutes though. If I want something or need a refill before someone notices, I use the two lips and tongue I was born with and ask. Its not a $40 an entree place where I expect to have the crumbs dusted off my table every 5 minutes. The food is always very good if not excellent. And considering from where it is sourced (mostly local, organic or all natural fare) and the quality, the prices are totally reasonable. In all the times Ive eaten there I have never had a problem. Although I do suspect my Fried Egg Sandwich was served once with regular sliced tomatoes and not the usual marinated ones. It was still good though. Beef is always excellent, whether its the Meatloaf or Burgers. The Grits are phenomanol if you like the stiffer, stone ground and not the pea soup consistency of most other places. I could go on about everything else Ive tried, but just try it yourself.

I had often frequented this establishment and loved the food and service. However, my last visit there gave me a bad taste in my mouth and made me change my mind about ever visiting this establishment again. The server purposefully ignored me. After waiting for at least 20 minutes, a manager asked if my order had been taken. When I replied that it had not, the server quickly acted as if she had already put my order in to save her face even though I argued that she had not fully taken my order. She immediately came back and said that the order had not been placed and that she would cover the meal. Now, I would appreciate that gesture had I not felt she was only doing it to save herself from getting into trouble and had she not spoken to me in a patronizing way afterwards. I will never go there again! May I say that I always try to treat servers well and tip well, but this server deserved neither and I still left her a tip. Not only did she treat me poorly, but she blamed her service on the cooks.

I had been to this place about two months ago and my whole group had to wait over an hour for our lunch. I always give places a second try because I know that everyone, including restaurants, can have a bad day. This time I did not come during a busy lunch rush, was by myself and came a little after 2pm, figuring this time I would get my food in a timely manner. I was wrong, what I dont understand is that the place was not busy at all yet I had to wait...again...over an hour. I just dont get it! I come to this place because I live in Fairview and feel like this more convenient then going downtown for good food. But this last time the food was cold and not even good, and it was slow. I guess I will be going downtown to next time I want to go out to eat and get good service with good food. At least I know that I will get my food within an hour and a half and not be served by a loud mouth waitress.

The local joint is a higher end diner with excellent menu items, specials, a good selection of local beers, and top notch service. My food was prepared quickly, presented with a smile, and tasted great. I would rate the food higher, but I had a bacon cheeseburger, it was good, but I couldnt classify everything on the menu as excellent after only trying that. I have also had breakfast there, usually just sausage egg and cheese biscuits, but they are great too. The dinner prices are fair for the portions you are served. I saw someone say it was overpriced for Fairview, I think they are comparing this place to a fast food restaurant, which it is definitely not. My wife and I had two beers, two entrees and an appetizer (the onion strings are EXCELLENT), and walked out with a 30.00 dollar tab before tip. I think that is more than fair considering what we got.
