I have been to this restaurant 2-3 times before and it was fine. However, I will not go back after my experience this evening with my family. We had a wait for a table of 40 minutes, which is not unusual for a Saturday night, but while we were seated in the waiting area I overheard a server ridiculing potential customers who were out on the street considering entering the restaurant and he used a mocking tone and very inappropriate language. A person in our party ordered a shrimp burrito. After he cut into it, he noticed the shrimp had a grey/green tint, which gave the shrimp an appearance of being spoiled and looked quite unappetizing. After several attempts to get our waiters attention, he came over and I asked for our partys dish to be taken back. He said the shrimp look grey/green because of the sauce the chef uses. He took the plate away to the kitchen and brought the same food/plate back and informed us that the chef said it looked fine. This has never happened to us in a restaurant before. The person in our party did not eat the shrimp burrito and it was not taken off our bill. Alto Cincos entrees and drinks are pricier than comparable restaurants in the area. A draught beer is $7 compared to $4 at The Mission and $6 at Munjeds across the street. But what bothers me the most is the attitude of superiority of the waitstaff, the fact that Ive never seen a woman server, and the fact that they did nothing, and adopted a patronizing manner, when someone in our party was unhappy with their unappetizing entree. I recommend The Mission downtown or Papa Gallos in Fayetteville.

This review is related to a particular experience with Alto Cinco, and not my overall impression of my multiple visits there. I decided to order delivery from GrubHub since I was working late on a project for my job. I ordered a burrito, the price of which went up from the last time I ordered it. Problem was, it took close to 2 hours for them to deliver it, and I live literally 2.5 blocks away. The burrito was $13, delivery was $2, tax was $1.20, and I tipped 20%. So I spent $20 to wait 2 hours for a medium sized burrito. Thats ridiculous. Sure, it tasted good, but I could get 3 burritos the same size if not slightly larger and similar quality from Chipotle for the same price. And yeah, I could have saved those $2 and picked it up myself rather than having it delivered, but I was right in the middle of a big project and wanted to keep working. Isnt that sort of situation exactly what delivery should be for? Ultimately, it was just really frustrating to spend $20 on a burrito that took 2 hours to travel less than a mile.

Amazing!! I have traveled throughout Central America and Mexico and I have to say, Latin food is my favorite. That being said, I am somewhat picky and critical when it comes to eating out. I have always wanted to try Alto Cinco, mostly to form my own opinion. I am so overwhelmed with how great the food was. Everything was very fresh with complex flavors. The night I was there, I ordered the Jerk Chicken Tostado with chips and salsa. It was amaaaazing! We ate outside at the cafe style table. When the sun went down, our waiter brought out cute little candles for each of the tables. I was equally impressed with the bathroom. The wall is decorated with the fronts of wine crates from Latin countries and the mirror is embellished with rows of wine corks. The details were obviously well thought out. The restaurant needs to be on everyones "to do" list. Great mix of tourists and locals. Definitely will visit again and recommend to others.

I just want to state this before anything else: its not as inexpensive as a lot of these reviews lead you to believe. So many reviews say it is, and even some say its as expensive as chiptole (7-8 dollar for a burrito range), which is an insane lie. Most burritos run from 10 to 14$ and come with a side salad and a piece of cornbread. Their popular ticket item the catfish burrito is 14$. Chips and salsa was not complimentary, which I felt was odd considering most Mexican places Ive been to have them free. With that being said, the food was solid. Idk if I can go here often just because if the price, but as a dinner out option its not a bad idea. The catfish burrito did live up to the hype. The catfish itself was insanely good, while the rice and beans felt a little lackluster. Solid craft beer lineup. Service is not too bad, or atleast my experience dining in was satisfactory.

A friend took us to Alto Cinco, tonight. Their food appeared to be satisfactory. I got a bean and cheese burrito with salad and chips. Chips and salad were fine. The burrito was cool to the touch upon arrival and the interior beans and rice were barely warm to the touch. The flour burrito shell was cold at its folds. The waiter did not bother to inquire if there was a problem. Given food safety concerns regarding temperature of product after I had one bite, I opened the burrito up to inspect the contents of the burrito I found no evidence of cheese and not a lot of beans, rice or their attempt at a salsa. Just a clue, if you heat the shell on an open flame before assembling the burrito, you would improve the product. This is the second bad meal I have had at Alto Cinco in two visits. Will not return, sorry. TexMex California style? Really, I have to give a star to post this?

Arrived just after 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Drink order not taken until 1:50, when we ordered drinks (one dark and stormy, one black coffee), chips and cornbread, and two quesadillas. Chips and salsa came out almost immediately. Chips were light and crispy. Salsa was pretty bland. Grilled jalepeno cornbread with spread came out at 2:05 and was delicious. Coffee arrived at 2:07, quesadillas at 2:11 at which time we pointed out that we didnt have the dark and stormy. The waiter says, "I wonder why". He returned with it immediately which, along with the slightly watered down taste, says to me it was prepared and sitting waiting for someone to bring it out. The jerk chicken and Monterrey chicken quesadillas were okay. Finished eating at 2:25 and had to flag down the hostess at 2:34 to ask for the check. Slow service and overall average food.

We have been fans of Alto Cinco for years. We used to live in the university area and ordered food for delivery every couple of weeks. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, and as vegetarians, we are thrilled with how vegetarian/vegan-conscious they are (they mistakenly put a piece of chicken on my plate at brunch one time, and youd think they had committed the most egregious of crimes: they comped my whole meal and couldnt apologize enough). They truly go out of their way to please their customers; their dedication to good food and stellar customer service is very obvious, as the restaurant is always full of happy diners! We wish we could still get their food delivered, but alas, we are just beyond their delivery area now. We love their weekend brunch!!!
