4 Star Reasoning ---- Appearance - The outside for one does not look like the inside. It definitely will be a pleasant surprise for anyone who walks in for the first time. The doors to get in are a bit strange, but that does not matter. The inside looks incredible. I really enjoy the authentic Chinese music in the background, it is really relaxing! The little lights are so cute and I enjoy how dim it is, because again, relaxing. They also have a bar which is quite nice as well. --- Service - The service has its ups and downs. Some of the waiters and waitresses should cheer up a little bit I think. Their main hostess who I assume is American is very nice along with a few other waitresses and hostesses. Most of them great you with a smile when you walk in. You will be seated quickly and it is comfortable. The food arrives quickly, which is great when you are hungry. We had some Chinese man serving us three times and he didnt seem really up for his job. He checked on us but super quickly. And he talked really quietly. But we did have another man at one point who was really kind! ---- Food - I can say that I have never had such good Chinese food before. There are a few places I like to go to for Chinese because I enjoy tasting differences. Orange with chicken flavor and sesame chicken are very similar but amazing! I ordered a spring roll, which I think a lot of people would enjoy the very obvious taste of fennel. I for one do not like fennel but the rice noodles and everything inside of it was great. I also ordered fried tofu, which was very good. All of their food comes in giant portions. For kids, it is best to share 1 plate of what you order with two people. For adults, watch your diets! :P Drinks are refillable for free. Sides are great - fried wonton chips, Jasmine tea, wasabi sauce, duck sauce, soy sauce. At the end you get your fortune cookies. Also the steamed rice is amazing! I am hoping to try more off the menus including their soups which look great Overall - Everything together gives it a 4. If the service had been a little better this place would deserve a 5 no question. It is so fast, and only 10 minute wait with take out. People should definitely make this their go to Chinese place!

Chen Gardens menu consists of the most authentic Chinese dishes Ive seen in Rochester. Boy, was I excited to find a place that would serve a whole fish- eyeballs and bones and all! SO delicious! I try to avoid the more "Americanized" dishes when I go there and order things I remember having while studying abroad in China. Or order ones that my Chinese great-aunts and uncles (mom is ABC) typically get at restaurants. I cant think of a dish I havent liked. The atmosphere is dim and relaxed -- definitely nicer than a takeout place. I was surprised the first time I walked inside. Since then, Ive had my birthday dinner there as well as a belated Chinese New Year celebration. Great place for groups to order "family style". Only complaint I have is that one time I went there was a very loud table in the middle of the room that was tipsy/drunk from too many Flaming Volcanoes. One of the owners or managers came over to talk with them and keep eye on things, though. (Though, really, it looked like he was riling them up). Service is good -- they were very patient when I kept switching between the English & Chinese names of the dishes. I believe the owners are a pair of brothers, from what I could tell. One of them goes around really working the crowd when there are larger groups present -- had a great time! Waitstaff is quiet and efficient. My takeout has always been ready when I go to pick it up. I have no complaints.

Chen Garden is the best Chinese restaurant in Rochester. Dark woods with leather wraparound booths hearken back to when going out for Chinese was "fashionable"! Oh yeah, and I love the food. There is a vast selection of dishes, and none will disappoint. Some dishes are truly interesting. There are whole fishes and seafood not found at any other Chinese restaurant in Rochester. Some of my favorite menu items - Mandrian Crispy Duck - A simple but yummy prep of sliced fried whole duck Tom Yum Soup with Seafood - Scallops, Shrimp, and Squid in a spicy rich broth, loaded with veggies. Scallops with Szechwan Sauce and Vegetables - Really, I like any spicy stirfry and scallops are tender and delicious treat. Finally, there is a top-shelf selection of drinks from the bar and exotic cocktails such as Zombies and Volcanoes. The Volcano is actually served on fire. Awesome! I was just there this weekend and I want to go back.

I will admit their food is very tasty, but the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. My daughter has Celiacs disease and ordered a gluten-free meal. She was up all night sick as a dog and spent the next day in a dark room with a raging migraine. Her meal was not gluten-free. When we arrived and were waiting to be seated there were 3 men at the bar ragingly drunk and swearing their heads off. My children did not need to hear that. Those same men were still there when we left. No one told them to leave. We waited almost an hour for our food, some of which was cold, and had to ask other people to refill or drinks. Our waiter was terrible and when we complained he came over and offered excuse after excuse. No apologies. We cant give the restaurant another try because our daughters health wont allow it. However, I dont know that I would even if it werent for that. It was not an enjoyable experience.

First I will start by saying that the order I made itself was done correctly and promptly, but the actual food was, in my opinion, the most bland chinese food I have ever tasted. For the price of their entrees I would have expected a flavorful chinese dish. I ordered general tsau chicken, szechuan chicken, crispy tofu, and brown rice. The tofu was soggy (probably due to being in the box) but all the other food just tasted nasty, I didnt even like the rice. I highly recommend Hes restaurant for Chinese, its cheaper and amazingly delicious!

Got there at the peak dinner hour and staff went out of there way to find us a table. While food was good, the fact that from the appetizer thru the main course food was presented hot which always makes a meal better. Portion sizes were huge with 2 people able to eat from one meal and be full. Wait staff was clearly short handed, but waiter not only cared for many others but made sure that as soon as we were finished with 1 appetizer the next was there and also with the meal. Out standing Job.

This is hands down the best Chinese Restaurant in Rochester and easily the best I have ever been to. They always go above and beyond with every meal and pack their to-go meals with all the fixings. The Pork Fried Rice is a true meal, you havent had real pork fried rice until youve had this. The Peking Chicken and the Peking Duck are sweet and crispy and amazing. The Lucky Family has everything and they never skimp on the shrimp or the scallops or the beef. Ive never seen the place empty.
