Ruvo, driving down 25A which turns into Main St heading towards the water in Port Jeff, Wynn St pops up quickly on your left. I say this because Ruvo East seems to be tucked away off the main drag, and this is a place you dont want to miss. On the outside it looks like a small quaint rustic place you would see in a small hamlet like the cape. Walking inside it does not disappoint, its very rustic and a feeling of intimacy. The reception area where the hostess greets you has small candles lit on the window sill with little window seats u can sit if you like while you wait. If you prefer there is a bar which has 3 sides to sit on, the 4th side is a walk way to the kitchen and restroom area. Our party had 4 people we had 630 reservations and they took us promptly. Dining area is small with a couple of booths on one side, table for 2 in the middle and some tables for 4 on our side. Tables of 2 can be put together for larger seating. There is also another room on the other end of the restaurant slightly more upscale looking then the main dining room which is primarily used for private events but I was told that they use it for the overflow from the main dining room when needed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the food was done perfectly and presentation was above average. Portions were not large but not small, they made it very proportionate to a normal size ( if such a size exists). We ordered from the prefixed menu which gives you a 3 course meal for $29.95. This is a great deal as their a la carte menu could be slightly harder on the wallet. Appetizer selection was ample enough to find something for everyone, the main courses was just as selective and the dessert selections were smaller but very generous. They have a wine list some glasses of wine average about 8 dollars a piece with some going as high as 15. Bottles were slightly high I felt for this establishment. I had the braised ribs which was fall apart done with the wine reduction extremely tasty and full flavored. The flounder and shrimp dinner was grilled and buttered perfectly without being overpowering. 2 others ordered the stuffed chicken breast stuffed with spinach, provolone, roasted peppers. Overall the food was done very well, presented nicely, served properly, and it was eaten slowly to enjoy every bite. Definately someplace to try. Check out some pictures and the prefixed menu, its worth the trouble.

We walked in to Ruvo in Port Jefferson, NY, and were not greeted in a friendly manner at all. The manager was on the phone and gave us to 1 second finger. We just went into the dinning room because we saw our party there already. So after looking over the menu for a few minutes, our waitress come over. She was either very drunk or on some type of drugs. She starts to take our drink order and one of our guest order a Guinness. A few minutes later she comes back and tells us they dont have Guinness, and asks him what else he would like. He asked her what they have, she responds with, "Everything," really thats how you answer a guest at your establishment. Now a few minutes later she comes back with our drinks, and is standing behind two of the guests in our party, and drops a whole bottle of beer on the floor. The beer gets all over the two of them, on the table, floor, their shirts, pants and faces. So while she is trying to clean it up, instead of having them get up so she can clean the puddle of beer, she tells them to stay where they are. Then she says to them, "we have a hand dryer in the bathroom if you guys want to clean up. She doesnt even bring over extra napkins, we had to get those from someone else on the wait staff. So we stayed, had our drinks and our dinner. One positive thing about the experience, the food was good. Now throughout this whole time the manager never comes over once to appoligize, or offer to take something off of the bill. After we were done the waitress comes over to us with the bill, and tells us, with a huge smile on her face, "tables of 6 or more gratuity is already included on the bill." So i took the bill to the manager, who really seemed to care less, and insinuated that it was our fault that the waitress spilled the bill. After almost walking out, the manager finally took the gratuity off the bill and discounted something for us. I know I was long winded, but I want everyone out there to know that this was the worst service I have ever received in my life. Oh and also when we brought up the waitress being on something, the manager told us this was not the first time he heard this. Never going back.

Picture this: 1. Make a reservation and waiting 25 minutes to be seated. 2. Waiter doesnt know what wines are offered for the unlimited wine special and takes 15 minutes to find out. 3. Waiting 45 minutes for your entree and having every table that sat after you getting theirs. 4. Having to go outside for the second time to put money in the parking meter because youve already been in the restaurant for 3 hours. 5. Taking your dessert to-go because youre tired of being there for four hours and realizing they gave you the wrong dessert. Probably one of the worst restaurant experiences Ive had at what is supposed to be an up and coming restaurant. Do not order the duck unless you want bbq chicken. That is what they threw on my plate. The only thing that may have made me possibly go back was the assistant manager Rob. Not only was he more attentive to our table than the waiter, but he offered to put money in the parking meter for me so I didnt have to leave my table. He seemed to be the only one with restaurant experience working there. He even noticed that we tasted the horseradish-relish sauce that came with our calamari and came over to our table to elaborate on what was in the sauce. Sorry Ruvo, you could have been everything I wanted you to be and so much more. You couldnt have been more dissapointing if you were an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Thanks for your offers to buy me another glass but Ill take what my time is worth over your terrible wine choices any day.

I have been coming here for almost 10 years and have never been disappointed, from family dinners to romantic evenings, Ruvo always seems to get it right. I call ahead and they always have my Pinot Griggio waiting for me on ice with a wait staff that is always eager to take my order. I usually end up getting the sea bass which is delightful and melts in my mouth like butter. Ah, every time I come to Ruvo I feel as though I am able to escape the world and unwind for a nice enjoyable meal. If you want a great dinner with excellent service, go to Ruvo. They take care of you. Not only do they treat you like family, they feed you with high quality meals that revitalize your soul! Keep up the great work Ruvo!! Until next time, -Steve Guarneri
