Been going to the GV for what seems like 30 years, from their humble beginnings further south on Livingston street to the new beautiful location near Shoprite. Food is always terrific, most always busy too but worth the wait if dining in. I usually grab takeout, souvlaki or falafel, but if I want the Greek salad I will ways eat in for that because it has always been huge affair, with enough left over to take home as another full meal. Dont pass on the Greek Fries as I had done for like the first 25 years of going there, but whereever you are on your diet, make room for these hot railroad tie style logs of lemony love. Baklava also is fantastic as are the dips with grilled pita. Besides the traditional chickpea variety, there is a potato garlic type I am quite fond of as well. Always a superior experience, even more so in the new location. Cheers! P.s. My make me feel good meal is a takeout order of gyro meat pita w/o lettuce (a marvelous pile of meat onions, tomatoes with tzatziki) chickpea dip with 2 extra pita, side of grape leaves, and baklava. More than a meal for sure since there will be leftover dip and grape leaves, but I am always ready for that later or the next day...lol. Unfortunately, they are closed Sundays, which I do appreciate, but it always seems I have the crave on Sundays like today.... P.p.s. BTW, I have read some of the other not as great reviews, and as I can understand some of the comments on the service, I would say those reviews must have been for the older, smaller location, where it was at times not what you would expect. The place had o my about 12 tables mostly 2-tops. An elderly gentleman normally services them all when I would eat there during lunch/off hours and it was not bad, just comfortably slow. I never minded it because I did not have to rush back to work, etc. I believe there was more help with rush hours, but that was seldom when I would dine in. The new location is bigger and very well staffed by attentive servers and a much larger kitchen capacity and staff. I cant speak to ever having been served undercooked meat, certainly that was an very odd occurrence. I am sure the staff/manager/owner would have made right by you if brought to their attention. Highly recommended...try the new location if you havent been, it is a different experience. Tho I will always fondly remember the old house where a hungry couple could have a relaxing meal sneaking in right after lunch hours at about 2:30. One of my Proust madeleine type experiences....

The Greek Village has some of the best Greek food Ive ever had, but after dining there a few times, my recommendation is to stick to take-out. The staff isnt the friendliest or happiest and thats just not the atmosphere I want when sitting down for lunch or dinner. Also, your order must be taken all at once - no ordering an appetizer or drinks while you decide on what your main course will be. While I wasnt satisfied by the service, the food truly is great. The free pita that comes with your meal is so tasty it doesnt even need a dipping sauce - but I do find myself topping it with bits of my entree quite often. For an appetizer, I had the Greek sausage once, which was good, but a fairly small portion compared to my favorite - the fried eggplant (sure its fried, but its unbelievable) which is a huge serving. When its lunchtime, go for anything in a pita - the prices are great for the size of the meal and its a great taste of Greek. I prefer the falafel, but dont hesitate to try out gyro or lamb! For dinner, Im pretty much set with the mousaka - think shepherd pie but Greek. The best part is theres usually enough mousaka for a snack/meal the next day!

There are a few Greek restaurants in the area: Yasou Mykonos in Demarest, Its Greek to Me in Westwood, A Taste of Greece in River Edge, and others. Theres also the very upscale Samdan in Cresskill (which offers a more broad selection of Mediterranean fare). In my opinion, none of these restaurants can even BEGIN to compare with The Greek Village. Ive been blown away, absolutely floored by the quality of the food after each visit. The meats are succulent and extremely flavorful. The vegetables are fresh, masterfully seasoned, and grilled to perfection. The atmosphere is nice -- though the building is a bit small, the wait staff is friendly, and the decorations dont seem overdone (as they do at Yasou Mykonos). Much better food here than at Samdan, though the selection is smaller. The Greek Village, however, is much cheaper (and much less "fancy"). I cant imagine a better Mediterranean eating experience. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in New Jersey, and I recommend it highly.

Place is super cute & casual! I usually come here for quick pick-ups. Call in advance to have your food ready by the time you get there-- usually takes about 15-20 min. This place saved me on multiple occasions when I was ill-prepared for last minute pot lucks. Their pita is perfectly warm & soft. When I have extra guests or just extremely hungry, Ill ask to throw a few extra in there. Also, I think shes the owner but the cashier lady always makes my day. Overall, one of the best local eats!

The food is alright, used to be a lot better earlier. The place is now just languishing on old accolades, and must say the quality has deteriorated with its popularity. The dishes are often now undercooked and even the falafel is a mushy paste inside with no consistency. The place is small, and because of the hype the wait times are unreasonably long and the desk staff is snooty.

It has the best gyro Ive ever had. This family riin business has great service, and even better food. My family frequents this place so much, they know us on a first name basis; its that kind of restaurant. The atmosphere is authentic, modern Greek, reminiscent of an actual Greek village, hence the name. Give them a try, you wont regret it.

The food was alright. Not good, not bad. The lunch service was bad. Took them 30 minutes to realize they hadnt even brought our food, then rush to get it in because our server kept forgetting what we would ask for. Something even as basic as asking for a side of sauce. Anyway, I wouldnt come back.

Good food, not so good service. Wouldnt call it terrible but definitely not friendly or professional. Very curt and easily annoyed staff takes away from what could be a very good local food spot. The gyros are awesome but the combo plates are really small for a $22 dish. Order out and enjoy.

I plan to go today with a friend. Im writing this now because Im reluctant and cautious because of what the guy from Russia said two different times. Im not sure if he is sincere or has an ax to grind. So Im taking a chance and will respond later. Thanks!

Portions are huge and the quality of ingredients is the best you will find at any Greek place in the area. The standard greek fare is better then most and especially the greek salad with grilled chicken. A small salad is enough to feed 2. Highly recommend.

This is a go-to lunch spot for my me and my family. A few people on the staff know who we are by now and the rest of them are quite nice. The food is always great, but there is a bit of a wait for it. I HIGHLY recommend the shrimp souvlaki in pita.
