DISAPPOINTING CAKE, AWFUL SERVICE! I decided to order my daughter’s Communion cake from Abbate because I like their cookies and figured the cake had to be good, too. I was very disappointed. To start with, they got the order wrong. I asked for a cross on the cake, but when my husband brought it home I found that there wasn’t one. Then when I cut into the cake later that day, I found that it was mostly mousse and very little cake. Plus, there was no layer of jam like I asked. What makes it worse was the mousse was heavy and flavorless and the butter cream frosting was way too sweet. My daughter hated it as did my guests. The next day I took my mother in law to the bakery so she could buy cookies and while she was ordering them, I told the owner’s wife that I was disappointed in the cake. First she pulled out my order to make sure I in fact asked for a cross and jam (seriously?) then she just shrugged and said she’d talk to the owner and see what he had to say. Needless to say, I haven’t heard back. You would think that she would have thrown in a couple of extra cookies into my mother in law’s order to make up for my unhappiness, but she didn’t even do that. Horrible customer service. And from now on we can live without their cookies.

I lived in NJ all my life before moving to North Carolina 8 years ago. There are zero Italian Bakeries in NC - no one here ever heard of a Rum Cake let alone a Sogliatelle . On one of my visits to Jersey I found Abbatte Bakery because it was close to my sister in Holmdel. I ordered a Rum Cake and took home some Sfogliatelle and other pastries. The Rum Cake was old world style - like the kind I had at an Italian wedding in 1956 when I was 13 years old and wished I could get a second piece. I have been to Abbate on every visit since. The Sogliatelle is always fresh, rich and crispy - even the next day. When I came back to NC I took home (6) Sogliatelle and would have taken a Rum Cake too if I could. After a month I wished for more Sogliatelle and Abbate sent them to me frozen and I get the aroma of an Italian Pastry shop when I bake them at home. What a treat! Abbate is a top shelf class act. I will be there next Saturday when I visit my sister - looking forward to Rum Cake and Sogliatelle. Now I dont have to wait 60 years for the second piece. Abbate è il migliore! Abbate is the best!

I went there to order an occasion cake for my daughters birthday. I showed them a photo of a cake from their own website - not only could they not give me a ball park price for the cake, but they wouldnt be able to give me a price until Tuesday (three days later) and my event is in one week! The girl working there rolled her eyes at me when I said I wanted to speak to the decorator (which they refused to let me do) and then when I asked to speak to the owner, I was told buy the owners daughter that I could leave and never come back. So rude and unprofessional - they can keep their cakes, especially after what I have read here now from other reviews! M&M Bake shop in East Brunswick is the place to go.

I bought a pumpkin cheesecake to bring to a friends house for dessert we were ready to eat it when the knife to cut the cake would not move. It turned out the cake was frozen and we had to microwave the cake in order to eat it. If I wanted a frozen cake I would of brought one in the frozen food section of the supermarket. I didnt expect to buy a frozen cake at a bakery. When I told the owner/manager of the incident she just looked at me like I had three heads and was unconcerned about their frozen cakes. I would never again step foot into that bakery.

This place is the BEST. Owner is always wonderful, havent lived in the area in ten years and still remembers me when i occasionally pop in. I highly recommend this place to everyone i know, it never disappoints! * wow after i posted my review the others popped up, i was really surprised by all the negative reviews, so i thought it best to say i have always been pleased but i am an occasional customer, havent been a regular in a long time, hopefully things havent changed there. :(

I called in to see if they had any German Chocolate cakes made because I needed it in 4 hrs. They didnt have any made but she said she could check to see about getting it made. I never expected they would say "no problem". There was no extra charge for the rush. They were very helpful. The cake was delicious. The price was right. I would definitely go there again.

Love, Love, Love everything about Abbates! Cakes are the best! Maria is always warm and friendly! They made a special peanut butter and chocolate cake for my husbands birthday that was amazing! They made a special birthday cake for my sister that was absolutely beautiful! No other bakery in the area compares!

I always thought that there pastry and cookies were good. But trust me the icing on there cakes tastes like there made with Crisco shortening. One of the worst icing I ever tasted. They definitely dont use real butter. Trust the reviews. Fine if your buying pastry, just stay away from there cakes.

This Bakery has a Cake..so scrumptious, I mean seriously That Cannoli Cake needs some kind of World Heritage Status. Start there and if your eyes dont get tired staring at the other goodies first, theres a delicious warm sugar rush to look forward too..

Delicious bread and pastries! Ive learned to go in early since my favorites sell quickly! There is nothing better than Abbates fresh danish or warm roll with my coffee on a Saturday morning! Cant help but bring home cookies for later too!

best cheesecakes, cookies, cakes, breads -- its all great. very fresh. they can do up anything you want. for example, their seeded rye bread, made only on order, is both amazing and inexpensive! true craftsmanship.

The cake that was purchased tasted like natural gas. Not sure how thats even possible but trust me the taste is still in my mouth hours later. Even going to the owner is pointless with her nasty attitude.
