I have been into Franklin Street Bakery a few times now, and I have to say that on each occasion I have been very impressed. I read the previous posters review and just had to say that my experience was completely different. I picked up a dozen macaroons and cookies a few nights ago for a party I was hosting and they did not stay on the table long. Everyone was asking me where I got the cookies and they, especially the macaroons, were a huge hit. In addition to how satisfied I have been everything I have purchased at this bakery, I have also been so pleased with the actual experience of shopping there. It is a little gem in a sea of mediocre service. The staff is always so friendly, polite, and with my arms laden with bread and pastries they even offered to help me carry things to my car. This is a kind of service and experience that I do not see very often and I hope that businesses like this one continue to thrive in this competitive market.

I cant speak for the Franklin Street Bakery location in Phillips, but my experience with the location in Linden Hills is terrible. Ive tried to order cakes for two different occasions (involving 4 calls and 1 visit), but didnt end up with a cake either time. Staff at that location feels unknowledgable (cant take an order for a cake over the phone and requested I come in during certain hours to place my order with a manager, couldnt take an order about two weeks before the requested pick-up date, didnt know what day a cake would be baked for pick-up on a Sunday), unorganized (cant find cake forms), and not terribly interested in helping. I am surprised both that with the economy management cant find staff that is more helpful and Im surprised that management hasnt spent more time training the staff it has. I will not attempt to order future cakes from this bakery.

Went to the Franklin Street Bakery for the first time on Saturday morning (~9:15 am). The best deals are on the loaves of bread. They have shelves of bread loaves for 99 cents! I picked up 6 loaves comprised of rye bread, carraway bread, herb focaccia bread, ciabatta bread, and 2 loaves of sourdough! They have a nice selection of pastries, novelty cupcakes (liked the red velvet w/cream cheese frosting and a sweedish fish on top). Also had Vikings vs Packers cookies for the big Brett Farve showdown. The staff was really friendly. Check out their website for pictures, pricing, and nutrition facts on the breads. There is 1-2 small tables to sit in the retail sections, so it may be better for take-out.

I picked up two trays of absolutely beautiful decorated cookies last week for our work party. That is as far as it went. Two people told me that they just about broke their teeth on the macaroons, I myself was expecting to bite into a soft carmely mini pecan cookie and it too was as hard as a rock. The sugar cookies had no butter taste at all in fact they had no taste at all. I originally thought that two trays would be close on the amount but we had almost a full tray left. Very disappointing. I will never order cookies again from them. They should stick with bread and cupcakes or break out the butter.

I just had the sea salt chocolate caramel cupcake and it was with out a doubt the best cake experience of my life. I will have to drive back into the city very soon just for one of these little beauties. Amazing!

They deserve more reviews. The $1 bread shelf has some incredible stuff. I wouldnt normally buy a 6 dollar loaf of bread but they are larger than most grocery stores. Good iconic local business

I was walking toward the shop at 5:59, 20 feet away, they locked the door, flipped the sign to closed, and wouldnt let me in. I guess they dont need business in this recession?

Love their Chocolate Diablo cake! Unfortunately as of Dec 2015, they have closed their storefront and it is no longer open to the general public.

Treat their employees horribly, pay them terribly and is overall an awful place. Kinda takes the flavor out of their overpriced, dry, bread.

The employees are friendly, and the treats are delicious, (especially the macaroons). I highly recommend Franklin Street Bakery.
