I regularly enjoy Blue Moose, but had a very diappointing experience on 3/5/17. We arrived at 10a for brunch; we, along with the three parties behind us (including a party of 7 and a party of 8), did not have reservations. The host staff was being noticably rude to us. Our party (which included two persons of color) was told the wait would be one-and-a-half to two hours. We were told this was becauae there were many reservations for the morning. The parties behind us (who also did not have reservations, but were all white) were seated immediately. I accessed the online reservation portal and saw there were MULTIPLE availabilities for our party size at 10:15, 10:30, and 10:45. When we were seated, we were seated at the far corner of the restaurant. The tables around us (and much of the rest of the restaurant) remained empty for at least 20-30 minutes before guests (beyond those of us that arrived right at 10a started to arrive. Even after we finished our meal, the restaurant never got more than half full. The server visited our table for initial drink orders but did not return. Since it was a bruch buffet, our empty plates stacked up, unremoved. I am white, and fortunately or unfortunately have never experienced this type of discrimination first hand before. I am utterly shocked.

I had been there before, and the food took forever to come out, but I decided to give it another shot because I wanted to take my girlfriend to a "nice" place for our 3.5 anniversary. Little did I know Murphys law was in full swing. First, Hostesses quoted us with 15 minutes of wait time, half hour later a family that had been waiting there less time than us complained and got sitted right away. Second, I asked for a vodka sprite, first time around the drink tasted like the sprite was flat. I sent the drink back. The server came back with a second drink, which was not very good, but I did not want to complain any longer. Third, some parts of my girlfriends chicken were pink, and the asparagus were undercooked. My dish was just average. The food is overpriced. Fourth, while the table next to us was being cleaned a busser dropped a glass and it broke. The glass flew all over and hit my girlfriend, which was not that big of deal since by that point we had already finished our meals and had decided never to return again. The server was nice and tried hard readon why I dont give the restaurant a poor "service" rating

The last 3 times Ive been at the moose we had service issues, once on the patio and 2 times at the bar including last night. The bartender, middle age medium build never smiled once and in fact was rude . It wasnt very busy and he did every other job at the bar except keep up with serving a bottle of beer. Our bottles were empty for 10 min before he begrudgingly finally came over with an attitude. By then I was not happy and said nevermind and the 4 of is got up and left and I heard him say something under his breath. Im 57 yrs old and I know what good customer skills look like and he doesnt have it. Ive never experienced a more rude and non caring bartender in Topeka than him the night of September 1st. The bar experience b4 that the kid was nice but again seemed busy doing all other bar work to keep up. For the nicest bar in Topeka the staff should be be up to standard also. At this point Im not sure I will ever be back. The bartender last night may have been the last straw.

The looks of this place can be deceiving. It looks modern, casual chic, and date worthy but the food did not live up to the decor. Ive been here three times and tried a different dish each visit. I was let down each time. I could cook equal to if not better than what was presented and Im barely an average cook. The pricing is also a little steep for the quality. After my third visit I decided I probably wouldnt be returning. I didnt have a terrible experience and I was able to eat at least half of my entree at each visit. Who knows, maybe your experience will be better than mine.

Took 10 min for waiter to even greet us. Portions are OK for a normal sized person. Dont plan to share though unless you have a small appetite. The fried pickles were mushy and bland and we never did get the refill on the dipping sauce for them. They were so bland you had to smother them in the sauce. Fish and chips were good. They will charge you extra to change to sweet potato fries though. Actually it seemed as if there was an extra charge for almost everything. I would recommend this restaurant if you have an hour or more for dinner and want to spend $35-45 for a meal for 2.

Ive tasted quite a few different dishes at the Blue Moose since they have opened in Topeka. They have all ranged from good to excellent. Mostly excellent. I do not care for run of the mill restaurants. I want my foods to be different. If you are like me and enjoy a restaurant that isnt afraid to be a little creative, I highly recommend the Blue Moose. I also LOVE the mini desert options. I see complaints here about having to wait. Thats because it is a popular place. Make reservations if you dont want to wait for a table.

We chose to eat in the bar section with the High tops. I would suggest doing this if you have a party of 4 or under based on reviews from others, as we did not have to wait. I tried the coconut curry dish and loved it. The portions are large so certainly a place to share a meal. The day we went was warm but still February.. It would have been nice to eat near the outdoor fire, but I dont know if they offer that, and if so, how much of a hassle that might be for those unseasonably warm Winter/early Spring days. Service was great.

The food was alright our service was absolutely awful. The kid that was our server was very rude and disrespectful. He had several table around us that he used manor like please thank u maam and sir but he barely even came to our table. We got chicken nachos as an appetizer they came out as soggy and cold as could possibly be. Our drinks were never tended to we never got refills on our mixed drinks which were meteocer at best and he didnt even ask if we wanted dessert which we did but we went to cold stone instead. Good luck

Food is the same restaurant group as Barleys in KC. Decent food, have never had a bad meal at any of them but this particular location had serious service issues. Server was friendly enough, but attentiveness was subpar and timing of the meal was awful as one of the dishes was not turned in and came out late, hence the just ok rating. It wasnt an issue that would keep us from going back, but if it happens again, that would signal maybe mgt is needing some attention.

I came in town from KC and took my father here for dinner and have decided I wont return again...Tried twice and I havent been impressed with the food either time. Equally important is that the place is so loud we had to scream at one another and still couldnt hear so we just ate and left. Id rather enjoy better food and the ability to have a conversation at Annies or several other local Topeka restaurants then come back to this chain.
