My family and I have never been so horribly treated anywhere! I spent $30 on crappy cold food because I thought it would be an iconic dinner that my 6 year old would enjoy, instead he ended up in tears because of a mean older male employee, they stole my money, and then were disrespectful and rude. Even more ridiculous is they have a sign asking for happy dependable employees. They need to dismiss the entire staff at this point. The owners should be ashamed to hire such disgraceful people. On our first visit we called ahead because we were coming in about 15 minutes before close to get a to go order because we did not want to be rude and keep them there after close. They said no problem and to come on by. When we arrived ,there were two tables of people still eating inside yet we still chose food to go to avoid being rude. While we were waiting for our food I gave my son $2 in quarters to play an old arcade game they had. An older man that worked there actually came over and pulled the plug out of the wall on my 6 year old because he wanted to leave.. but our food still wasnt even cooked yet. My son was very sad and started to tear up about the mean man. About 5 minutes later they gave me food and forgot my sons fries so I asked them for them and the young blonde girl behind the counter was a complete jerk and did not want to be bothered by me and told me that i dont get anything else. I then asked for the lady that took my order as she was the only decent person in the entire place. Then that evil man that upset my son came behind the counter and started freaking out about me asking for my fries and I even tried to give them my receipt. The blonde girl ended up taking the second hot dog off my sons plate and traded it for fries! No one would even get the lady that took my order. Horrible, horrible, food!!!!! Even more horrible staff!!!! I am an HR Coordinator and i will make sure every one in my company hears about this and never visits again. You should be ashamed!

I use to go there religiously. At least two to three times a week. Then I saw a few things that made my stomach lurch. First...An employee got to the bathroom before me so I waited. He took a piss and walked out wiping his fingers on his apron and I heard the toilet flush, but he never turned the sink on to wash his hands. So I can imagine what he was wiping on his apron. Second....I ordered a double play (which is two hot dogs) and I was standing over where you wait for your food and this Mexican woman that was fixing the meals was walking around with two hot dogs between her fingers (like they were a couple cigarettes). No plastic gloves on, just walking around with MY hot dogs in between her fingers as she gets the buns ready. Ive seen them use tongs all the other times, but this grubby woman carries them around between her fingers while does other things. I didnt bother to tell John (the owner) because it was too much for me to handle for one day. I just threw them away and walked out and havent been back there since. I can imagine the other unclean things they do there that I dont see and it makes me sick to think about what I have eaten in there over the years. The fresh cut fries and the Chicago dogs were very tasty, but not worth what goes on around the food. I like John and I feel bad for him, but he has to have seen these things go on and he needs to get a handle on it before someone gets sick.

This is absolutely one of the best places to eat in Cedar Rapids. Pretty much everything on the menu is terrific and I love the way everything is put together. From the food to the restaurant its self is just an overall wonderful experience. I love the employees, they are always welcoming and always know how to put smiles on me and my familys faces. I have never once been disappointed with their food or their service. I really enjoy The Flying Wienie and I would recommend it to anyone who loves great food. I give it 5 Stars Because It is One of the Best Places Ive Ever Ate At In Cedar Rapids Iowa

Wonderful, its like Northern hospitality in yet I felt as though I was family, best Gyros and fresh cut fries the owners are very genuine and know best in what that do the atmosphere here is a joy and nothing but happy faces due to such great food, I keep looking around thinking Ill see someone I know but this isnt Alabama in yet it feels like home.....I seriously recommend everyone to come here and they need a 10 star rating. I suppose it was the owner taking my order... Nice but rushed me to take a buddys order (called by first name)... I said thank you to the lady that called my name and gave me my food, as she just turned around w/o a reply... Rude and not very good!! Have had Gyros all around the world and many states in the US and dont bother here at the flying weenie... The pita, meat and fries were cold and only had 2 blocks to drive home....

Great place, great atmosphere. I think some people see the eclectic decor and automatically think the place is "dirty" and therefore the food unsanitary. Ive been going here for years and had a great experience every time. And yes, not a lot for vegetarians, but it kind of says it in the name. Would you go to a steak house and expect tons of vegetarian options? Great fries, overall great food.

A true Cedar Rapids land mark. Very unique place and if youve never been there you owe it to yourself to try it. Fast, friendly service and good lunch counter style food. The hot dogs are of course their signature meals but the ribs, gyros, etc., etc are great. Its hard to miss with an airplane on the roof and another hanging over the counter. I doubt if youll be disappointed.

The restaurant is a disaster. The food is really bad. We ordered their signature beef sub and hotdog. Plus the whole restaurant is so dark and dirty. They have those super old school arcade games under table, which I guess was very creative 30 years ago, but now the console is so broken and oily.

Fantastic chili makes this chili dog delicious! The chili by itself as so good, add the hotdog, and the thick bun (soaking up the chili) and you have a winner! Natural cut fries we cooked well, not to salty and stood up to the chili dog. My family and I will be eating here again!

I had the double play special- 2 hotdogs, fries & drink for $8.83 including tax. The fries were hand cut and fresh. The dogs were kind of scrawny and cold. I liked the atmosphere and the service was ok. My coworker enjoyed her sandwich. Will give them a 2nd chance another day.

Hot dogs and brats are good, French fries are some of the worst Ive ever had, theyre always soggy. Place needs a serious makeover; just feels dirty and greasy in there. The owner is probably the worst part as hes condescending almost every time I go in. Id rather go elsewhere.
