BIG DISAPPOINTMENT ON A BIG DAY. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner for 45 people in the party room. The Executive Chef Kevin was outstanding to meet with and plan the event. The food was also DELICIOUS in every respect. Unfortunately for all, the party itself was a living nightmare. We were given ONE server for the entire evening- a party of 45! Not only that, the server was exceptionally rude and very impersonal. Service crawled at a SNAILS PACE... the entire party was there and waiting for 45 minutes before we had been given drinks and began ordering food. Eventually my (the grooms) mother got up and began helping to fill drink orders and refill glasses. My father stalled the crowed by having an open mic for funny or meaningful stories about the bride and groom that could be shared by friends and family in attendance. My father (party host) asked to speak with the owner but was told she was "too busy and not available to speak," so he went and recruited the bartender to help refill drinks (she was a very sweet girl and was happy/helpful the rest of the evening). After we had been there for 2.5 hours, guest began to leave before dessert had been served. At last, the owner revealed herself and asked how everything had gone. After complimenting the food, we cordially bemoaned how understaffed and slow paced the evening had proceeded, upon which the owners only response was, "Well, if you had ordered appetizers it would have helped fill time" in a rude and unbecoming tone. OKAY. Even though the food was spot-on, we would never recommend anyone to use Grains & Grill for an event of any kind, and my father who sponsored the evening says he will never be back.

My wife and I ate there after hearing great things. I will rate the following along a 0 to 10 point scale (0 = worst Ive ever had; 10 = best Ive ever had). Atmosphere: 8. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The restaurant appeared to be clean and well maintained. Service: 8. The service was friendly accommodating and attentive. Food: 4. My wife had a chicken dish that came with sweet potatoes. The potatoes were tasty. However, the chicken was like rubber. In a nut shell, this was over priced for the quality of food received. I had the blackened fish tacos. These were good, except they over did it with some kind of western sauce. It overpowered the taste of the other ingredients. We both had a jumbo shrimp cocktails (not on the menu, but can request). The shrimp were excellent, and huge! However, the cocktail sauce had way too much horse radish in it. It was comparable of eating wasabi if you are familiar with that . Price: 3. Ive eaten food all over the world, including on cruise ships, Cesars Palace in Las Vegas, and in Paris, France. For the quality and amount received at Grains and Grill, the cost to value ratio was way too high. In short, over priced for what you get.

A friend recommended this place and wasnt disappointed. The manager/waiter in the bar area was very friendly and knowledgeable, very helpful. We got the pretzel stick appetizers, tenderloin with cream corn and gravy/potato to which everything had amazing flavor that burst in your mouth. My wife got chicken that had some either undone spots or veins in it, flavorful sweet potato bites, and green beans. As we were stuffed, we were offered desert and we obliged with getting fresh strawberry short cake (very refreshing) and a peanut butter truffle desert that was very sweet and rich. Presentation was very good and quality of food was fresh and never felt like a number coming through especially as the owner came around to greet everyone. I will be back for sure!!

Called the day before we planned on going. Asked if they took reservations. I was informed they do not for parties under 8 people, but offer call ahead seating. They next evening as we departed for the 30 minutes plus drive to the restaurant, I called to put our party of four on the list. I was informed at that time they were no longer accepting call ahead seating and the wait time was fourty minutes. Needless to say I was not pleased. Had it been up to me we would have went elsewhere. The food was okay. I felt we overpaid for the quality. There is room for improvement.

A tale of two restaurants - Beer A+ lots of Indiana beer, good selection that you have a hard time finding anywhere else, let alone in Grant County. Sandwiches - great burger, fairly priced considering size, quality, and fries. Entrees - over priced and underwhelming. Airport chicken was an appetizer in everything but price. Fish was good but pricey considering it did not include a salad or potato. My advice - go for a beer and burger. You will leave with a 5 star experience. Avoid the entrees you will leave underwhelmed and feeling like you over payed.

My husband and I went here for the first time for our 13th Anniversary and we were both let down. The atmosphere is very nice and the bar area was well stocked. We ordered ribeyes and we both would not recommend. They had way too much fat and were tough. Also there was no difference in the medium to the medium rare steaks. The menu states you get sourdough bread and butter, that was never brought to our table. For $100 meal ticket we expected so much more! Sadly, I do not believe we will be back.

1st time to restaurant. During james dean festival. Was given a childs menu. Couldnt order off if for my 1 year old. Ordered the tips and wasnt given a choice on potato. Didnt ask how I wanted my tips cooked. They were rare. I eat med well. When bread was brought. Plate was placed right in front of my daughter twice with steak knife facing her. Its a great place. But 1st impressions mean a lot to me in a restaurant that is highly recommended. Not much selection during the festival

A Little gem of a place located in the heart of Fairmount. It was so nice after a long day to go to a restaurant that was unique and enjoyable. I had the Bubbas burger, and it was amazing. It was almost too big to eat, but it was still manageable. The waitress was very sweet, and helped me pick a menu item based off of my food allergies. This is something that I always appreciate when I go to a restaurant. Definitely check this place out, its worth the drive.

The Grains and Grill restaurant is a gem - the food was excellent. We had fish tacos for an appetizer, and for the main, we had halibut with black forest mushrooms, accompanied by green beans and cheese gnocchi. The sauces and seasoning on everything, as well as the preparation, was excellent. The price was about 1/2 what you would pay in a major city for this level of quality food. I hope the same chef is there when we go back next.

Went for my fathers birthday. Reserved for party of 12. When we arrived table was ready and waiting. Food was great and service was outstanding. Out of 12 of us we ordered 10 different meals. Nobody had any complaints about food. At the end of meal asked for extra plates for the cake we brought and they arrived quickly. Great atmosphere, food, service and value. Was very busy for a Wednesday. Keep up the good work. We will be back.
