My family of 6 (including 4 grown children and 2 pugs) were on a family vacation in a rented motorhome heading west towards Colorado and South Dakota, from Pennsylvania in July of 2013. We were going through Illinois, doing some genealogical research, and were looking for a place to eat lunch. Olney was the closest town to where we were, so we headed there. We drove up and down main street, and our oldest daughter used the internet to find El Cactus. We were pleased to be able to sit on the patio, along with our pugs. The service was wonderful (to the point that they brought a bowl of ice water for our pups). The food was great, although I probably ate way too many chips and salsa. I couldnt stop, the chips were so fresh and light and crisp. The main food was great, and we had (at least one) pitcher of Margaritas. Since I was driving, I had to limit myself, but they were quite refreshing. When we got the bill (which would have been reasonable by nearly anyones standard), we found they had given us one meal free. When we asked, they told us that our bill was too high. This was the second day of a 10 day trip, and even now, 8 months later, I still recall the friendly staff, the wonderful food and the incredible deal. We spent usually about twice that much everywhere else we ate. I wish I lived closer. I enjoy Mexican food, although I am no expert. It was prepared and served by a staff who were clearly at least of Mexican descent, if not first generation Americans themselves, and their knowledge of and pride in their product was quite evident. I would give them more than 5 stars, but that is all that is allowed. Best food, especially for the price, of the entire trip. Kudos to the staff, and again, a heartfelt thank-you for the great meal and the priceless memories.

Chips were store bought and a little stale. Queso was runny and tasteless. Salsa was okay. Food was on the high end of mediocre. However, sitting at the table for 20 minutes trying to get the attention of anyone who worked there so we could get to go boxes and the check was the killer. We are Rancherito fans, but we decided to give Cactus a chance. Wont ever be going back.

Delicious. Es la mejor que el Rancherito. I eat there at least once a week. Quiero unas enchiladas de queso y de pollo, ahora!

This has to be the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. They mess up every order. Twice I have been served raw meat. Three times I was served food with hair in it. When I asked if they would correct it, they were very ride about it. I will starve before I eat there again.

Service was kind of slow and they were confused...we only had 7 people, but the tickets were pretty mixed up and I never got the guacamole I ordered. The food was just okay.

For most ppl this is probably good. Im from South Texas though... The salsa was basically pureed tomato, the refried beans were obviously canned.
