Ive eaten at Mayflower for the past year at least a few times a month. My experience has primarily been dinner off the traditional Chinese menu. Im a cook myself and am fairly critical of food. Like every Chicago Chinatown restaurant, it cooks certain dishes well and others lacking. For example, the white cut chicken (half or whole) is the best, relatively speaking, among all the Chinatown restaurants. It is very fresh, soft, and cooked in-house. Ive also consistently enjoyed the following dishes: fresh steamed shrimp (shell on, live), light soy, stir fried rice noodles, shredded leg of lamb with green onions & ginger, chicken + egg plant + salty fish casserole, lamb stew casserole (gravy option), deep fried garlic pork chops, deep fried salt & pepper squid or calamari, deep fried or salt + pepper quail or squab, pork spare ribs w/ bitter melon, fried whole flounder w/ yellow chives, walnut shrimp, fried fish cake w/ chestnuts, scrambled eggs with oysters or shrimp, pork belly w/ preserved vegetables casserole, fresh steamed oysters with black bean + soy sauce, steamed whole snapper, water crest (broth option) with golden eggs, peapod leaves stir fried w/ minced garlic, and stir fried tong choy (water spinach) with minced garlic, bean curd paste + peppers, or shrimp paste. However, the following dishes at Mayflower have consistently been disappointing: salt & pepper shrimp (shell on), black pepper short ribs, green onion & ginger lobster (sometimes), seafood medley stir fry, The night shift waiters are pretty cool, hard working, young, and accommodating. Theyve, without hesitation, voided orders that I didnt like; thats made me trust them, which is really important to the dining experience. I feel most comfortable at this restaurant in Chinatown primarily for a decent, quick Chinese dinner. Front of the house was recently renovated and comfortable. Like any Chinese restaurant, the customers can be unaware of their sound levels and obnoxiousness.

The food is alright but the service is unacceptable. My family and I go to this place all the time to eat and we have a big family (around 16 people). Usually, they are very accomodating and would be able to sit us all together at one table with a bigger wood table placed on top of the smaller table. However, today they lied and said that they did not have it and later offerred it to us when they saw that we were upset. In addition to lying to us, they continued to stare at us while we ate, making us feel very uncomfortable. They were just very rude. The food was mediocre. The vegetables they had today were very bland and didnt have much flavor to it. Everything else was alright. If they dont change their service soon, I dont recommend coming here because theyll just make you feel uncomfortable while you eat.

When I was in this restaurant about a year ago, it was still OK. But my visit last week was a bad experience. The restaurant was so noisy and people were talking very loud. We could not hear each other face to face on both side of 4-seat table. The temperature inside is above 85 degree and when we complained about AC, the manager just said we already turned on AC, but there were too many people so its hot, then she left. I was sweating and same to other guests. If you want to "enjoy" your lunch or dinner, this restaurant is not the right place.

Given that it was a busy day, our family experience was not a good one. Tip is always optional but we got chased for a tip. Understaffed, our family of 5 waited 20 min to even place an order. Food was decent. No one ever came to check on us, we had to flag staff down on multiple occassions for soy sauce, forks, container, and check. They just drop stuff off and go. So I dont feel I was obligated to leave a tip. Never had a dedicated waitress.

I came here a week ago it was my first time eating there the food was good big portions were served. But what really bothered me was the staff The kept giving me these looks and they just threw the food at me and my friend. Also when it was time to pay they gave them selfs almost 5 dollars for a tip which is really bad cause isnt tips suppose to be optional ? For crappy service here they expected tips? I do not recommend this place.

The food was ok, not a good as other dim sum Ive had. A few of the dim sum dishes I ordered they told me they were out of. Then a waitress came by to say they made the wrong buns and asked if that was ok. She seemed upset that I just wanted the original buns that Id ordered. The staff just walked past staring at me without a smile and no one asked how my meal was or if I needed anything else.

Staff was rude and food was horrible. The restaurant overall was too small and cluttered. Customers were sitting on top of each other. At the end of our poor dining experience the waitress had the audacity to ask for a tip. Definitely not a place for tourists!

Dim sum fresh and unique, but choices somewhat limited. Very good though. Ordered eggplant with garlic, which was not on the menu, but was delicious. Window sign advertises Sichuan food but nearly the whole menu is full of foods from Southeast China.

Gratuity is supposedly voluntary, if the waitress ran after us outside the street already because we didnt leave a tip, coz we didnt feel like leaving one for a reason, then, they should have included it in the final bill as service charge.

Ohh the food is delicious, but the attention its decrepit , the man who attended me, forced me to give him a tip which is volunteer, he make me felt uncomfortable, and he didnt even served me

Tasty and large portions of dim sum entrees. Service is somewhat slow. Took 10 to get our teapot refreshed. Good food and neat place
