We we walking around the historic district looking for some food that didnt come with a side of annoying tourists when we stumbled upon The Prince of Wales. Honestly, I wanted to try the Irish pub about a block down but we decided to go in. The patio is a bit crowded, but gorgeous. Dont try to get a stroller up the ramp and around front if anyone is there, theres just not enough room to get around all the chairs without displacing a bunch of people. Inside is a tad stuffy (though it was so fair out we should have eaten outside, and they werent running the air), but the staff was amazing. There was only one server and she took great care of my young family. They grabbed some crayons and coloring books for the elder boy, and smiled when we stuck around for a while because the baby needed to eat. I ordered the fish and chips, which is something I get when Im not sure about the menu, and by golly is was awesome. I love me some fish and chips and this order (a small) more than enough to sate my hunger. That and a couple of pints of Summit were exactly what I needed. My wife got the "cottage pie" which is basically a shepherds pie with beef instead of lamb. I didnt order it because it lacked lamb and they usually end up being rather bland. But I was wrong about that. The cottage pie was on point, and I wanted to eat a lot more than the couple of bites my wife afforded me. My son had a cheeseburger and refused to eat it when it came out owing to the fact that it had hamburger in it. My bad, kid... Seriously, though, I want to make the 3 hour trip back, and I can get pretty good fish and chips in a dozen places within half an hour of my house. If we ever find ourselves out in St Augustine again the Prince of Wales will be on my "must eat" list.

First time there I have the fish and chips. Must have an appetite because the fish was HUGE! The chips or "fries" were huge and plentiful as well. The batter was just thick enough to let you know it is there with out over whelming the fish. It was not greasy or stale. Crisp and fresh. Went in again at another time and had their cottage pie. Amazing!. I have been there at least 30 times and always the same experience. Here is the best part. I was in England for a while and experienced many fish and chip places and they were all awesome. After this place it feels like I am walking through the same pubs and restaurants. here is another bit of info. I have been there a couple times when they had a delivery. FRESH, unfrozen fish delivered to their place. HUGE fillet of fish all wrapped up and heading right for their cooler. The people/wait staff are awesome as well. Friendly and caring about their customers. It is very quaint in its location and decor. Reminds me of the one place I went to a lot in England. The food is awesome, the price, the people, the atmosphere. You just cant do better. I still havent had everything on their menu because my 3 favs are just that hard to walk away from .

We went for lunch after seeing the Castillo. The service was attenttive without being intrusive. We had the blue cheese sticks appetizer, crispy and tasty. My wife had the bangers and mash and was satisfied that they were indeed the English kind with cereal filler added giving a smoother texture. Her friend had the fish and chips and was well pleased. I had the chicken pot pie. It was as expected. The sides were mash and corn & carrots for both the pie and the bangers. For dessert we had the raisin bread pudding with custard. It was more of a sponge pudding but tasty enough. Overall, the food was good. The execution was excellent but the menu could do with a makeover. The dishes were authentic traditional English cuisine but thats not really a compliment. For drinks we had a draught cider and a Bass ale. The food and drinks arrived in a timely manner and the server checked on us frequently. The seating area is intimate with about 8 tables. The walls are festooned with fairly typical memorabilia - flags, uniforms, Underground sign etc. In summary it was a very positive dining experience.

Great little pub to stop in and take a load off. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Traditional English pub fare. Pretty tasty, just make sure youre in the mood for greasy food. They do have a few non fried items and salads to add variety. My Husband had the beer battered burger....yes, they beer battered even the burger. It came with a side of chips(fries) He really liked it. The burger was juicy and flavorful, not dry at all. Their chips were crispy ouside and soft on the inside. I had the bangers and mash. It came with corn and steamed veggies. The veg was a little overcooked but the bangers (sausages) made up for that. They were well cooked, plump, juicy and delicious with a tiny hint of spice. The onion gravy went perfectly with it all. The service was good too. The one waitress was very polite and prompt.

I typically bring my visitor-friends to "Prince of Wales" pub.The very best service in a warm and intimate atmosphere. Eat inside at one of (maybe 10?) tables or eat outside on the porch while watching the tourists walk by. The fish and chips are the best, according to my British friend who visited. The portions are huge, so bring your appetite. Enjoy a Guinness or other draft beer, served from the quaint little bar and ask for a bit of rubina (A raspberry-flavored liqueur) in it, as well, a very British treat. The service is very personal and the staff stop to chat with the customers. The owners themselves are British and one of the wait staff is Scottish, so youll feel that youve arrived in the U.K.!.

How do you run out of 1 of your 6 items on the menu (bangers and mash) , and then you mess up on the custard, and wont sell any of your desert menu? Not child friendly as we overheard a mother asking if they had juice or milk for her child, the owner was unwilling to accommodate her. Kind of an insult to your "english" heritage. The waistress was nice, but didnt commumicate very well, as she threw our bill on the table without even asking if we wanted to get anything else. Sure, its a nice little hole in the wall with good fish and chips, but if i was planning to vacation in St. Augustine again, I would not be wasting my time in there.

I will say that I was a tad skeptical coming into this place; I wasnt sure what to expect of this place. The prices were reasonable when you consider how much food you get. I ordered a small fish and chips and was full. The decor is slathered with various British memorabilia and the bar is very nice. Everything there seemed to be beer battered and fried. I am not sure if that is just how British food is or just unhealthy. Anyways, if you go, you must try the jack and blue cheese sticks. They will change your life!!!
