I travel between Boston and NY frequently and have a long list of places visited by Guy Fieri (Diners - Drive-ins & Dives) programed into my GPS. I decided to visit the Black Duck Cafe yesterday as I was passing through around noon time and was getting hungry. The history behind the old barge which is now the restaurant is interesting and the atmosphere at lunch time was welcoming. The menu immediatly struck me as being over-priced - didnt seem to match the aged conditions. I went with the stuffed Blue Cheese burger - onion rings and iced tea which ended up rining in at around $15.00. Onion rings were good - the burger arrived on a Wonder Bread roll with two pickles on the side. I always expect more garnish than that. There was a little bit of blue cheese inside as promised, but I was very disappointed overall. Maybe the "Chef" was not in yet or was off for the day. Maybe they usually do a better job than that. But there are other reviews that suggest otherwise. Dont waste your time. This is the very first negative review I have ever written about a restaurant.

I was expecting more from a 4 star restaurant. It took asking two staff members to be sat, it took over 10 minutes for someone to take our drink orders, another 5 to get our drinks. After waiting around with empty drinks for about 15 more minutes, someone finally came to take our dinner order and after another 15 minutes, out came our food, which wasnt too bad. But then after getting our food, it was of pretty poor quality. A basket of fish and chips and a small plate of nachos costing almost $40 with water to drink. And in this time, we never got refills. Im only giving 3 stars for the one nice waitress and the alright tasting fish. Im not even sure where my tip is going to since every time someone came to "serve" us, it was someone different. Oh well.

As an Englishman visiting NYC on my own, I ended up in Westport CT,a very nice town. I stumbled across the Black Duck, looking for some dinner and a drink. The place was quirky to say the least, which appealed to me at the time, however the guy who ran the joint and the bartender; Hank, were totally rude and obnoxious toward me,obviously because I was a Brit. The customers were friendly enough,if not mostly hammered. I had a pre-conception that the NYC folks would be cold, and the people in the sticks would be warm and friendly..how wrong I was. God bless all you New Yorkers, and may the Black Duck capsize when Hank is watching baseball on his own at night and finish in a watery grave!

The food here is horrendously over priced and not very good. We ordered the shrimp basket with shoestring fries which came with five tough shrimp and frozen shoestring fries for $16 we ordered the California burger which was a 10 oz burger and came with no sides and although it was an average burger, it cost $15. The clam chowder was really good. The atmosphere is of a locals bar, great if you are a local, uncomfortable if you are an outsider, and overpriced because people come to see people they know, not to eat good food.

I dunno, maybe its just me. The fried belly clams were really good. Big clams, generous portion, lightly breaded. The tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were fresh but didnt have all the familar flavors. You could tell they were homemade which would normally be a good thing, but I think Ratatouille got carried away. The Black Duck in its true form is a dive where you go to rub elbows with a mixed crowd, pound a couple of beers and get a dose of 80s rock. The tilted floor adds character to it all ;)

La comida estuvo deliciosa solo que el servicio debió haber sido mejor.( meseras no eran muy tan atentas). Tuvimos que pedir refills dos veces y cuando trajeron la comida le faltó la salsa para el sándwich.

We went on here on recommendation from our AirBNB host and were not disappointed. It is a bit of a dive inside, but the food was good. Clams casino were tasty, lobster roll was delicious, though the lobster was a bit overcooked, and the crawfish po boy was good. The rolls for both were lackluster, but the insides plenty made up for that. TL;DR: Dont expect 5 start dining, but go for some really solid food.

My husband has been dying to go here since he saw it on tv. We drove 1 1/2 hours. We were seated right away and given menus. 3 different parties came in after us, they all were seated, drinks served and orders taken. Needless to say after half an hour we got up and left.. i have never had such terrible service ever. I wouldnt even give them 1/8 of a star. Dont waste your time

I travel from the Boston area to New York City by car... alot. Stopping right off the highway for some mussels (ok, sometimes and burger and curly fries) is one of my greatest pleasures. Take me 45 minutes and Im on my way. I am usually there mid afternoon and its easy as pie. Wish they had pie, but I will tell you they are friendly and food is right up there.

Long standing locale under bridge on riverside, with quaint Oceanside decor, and typical shoreline fried seafood menu. Super full belly clams meal!! Service is great, especially on weekday night, but fast still, on z busy Friday night, always packed. Modest pricing and good value. No reservations needed, some outdoor seating, entertainment on weekends.

Went here on a whim a couple days ago! I had the surf and turf, the lobster was pretty fresh and good and the steak was pretty tender and cooked medium just how I like it. My friend had the Fishermans fried platter and it was a TON of food and was very tasty, especially those scallops! The beer selection is pretty good. Would definitely go again.

Everytime I go to the Black Duck I find another example of horrible service or a dish that I love turned into a complete mess. Frozen store bought seafood and canned calamari. A 45 minute wait just because tables arent being cleared and something that I found amusing, a hostess/waitress looking me in the eye and picking her ear.

The Fisherman platter and the stuffed burger are good but not amazing. Limited selection of beers on tabs (Sam , blue moon and some light beer). The place has some character and I also enjoy the live music when theres some. Usually some 10-15 minutes wait at dinner time. The place was also featured on a culinary TV show.

Poor service, small portions, over priced. Not impressed. Stopped here on the way home from MA to VA. 5 medium shrimp and monkey dish of rice 16.00. Cold Calamari we sent back. Empty waters refilled after finished eating. Dont bother.

French onion soup was excellent. Wings were also good. Can be a little tight inside. Service, waitresses very friendly and prompt. Beers on draft were fresh and cold. Good place to hang out if theres room inside.

Local seafood and suds institution right on Saugatuck River. Good fried and steamed seafood. Big bowl of steamers is just $5 on Fridays. Very popular with locals and enthusiastic drinkers.

Amazing atmosphere, and right on the water. The food is delicious, they have Keno, and you wont find a cooler bar. Used to be a banana barge. Best French Onion soup in Fairfield County.
