We were big fans of the former Matteos, and were kind of let down when we saw it had changed hands. The new owners formerly ran the restaurant at Crestbrook, which we werent big fans of. The last time we ate at Matteos, it was actually during the transition and we could tell the difference in the food right away. We had ordered dishes that we regularly ordered in the past, but this time they seemed...rushed and tasteless. Needless to say we stayed away for awhile. But having heard some good things we decided to give it another try for lunch. Service was totally on point, but more important...the food was as good, if not better than before. We ordered a prosciutto pannini, Caesar Salad and a bowl of the Pasta Fagioli soup. Pannini was amazing, seriously danced on my tongue like a ballerina. And the soup was some of the best weve ever had. Stellar. The salad was good but we didnt like the croutons. No biggie really, just kind of a weird seasoning that tasted like powdered gym sock. Still though, pretty solid. Overall we we super impressed. Glad we went back and are planning on dinner there this weekend. The new outdoor patio is also a big plus. Another local gem that just got a little bit shinier.

Not happy. I dont like to bash places for the sake of bashing them but I feeI like the truth needs to be told. I used to go to Matteos all the time for years. So much that the owner knew me by name. I ordered 2-3 meals there a week. Since the ownership changed the food just keeps getting worse. The prices went up too like $2-$3 a meal. I had to call and complain because they messed up my pasta. An italian place that messes up pasta is doomed. They told me they would pay for my meal but I think this was the last straw. I have given up all hope and have to just realize that I need to eat other places. Very disappointing because there are no real good places to eat in watertown so most likely I will be forced to eat here again.

I can only partly agree with both the good and bad reviews. I will justify that by saying this, I have had several items on the new menu and some were to my liking and some were not, I am willing to let that slide because there are few restaurants that have a full menu that I like. I really like the Sauteed Spinach and the Chicken Francese, however, the Ravioli was not to my liking you cant be all things to all people all the time. The restaurant also has a nice bar, but it can sometimes be crowded with people eating even when their are open tables. I will say this, the food is not the same as when it was Mateos not better, not worse, just not the same.

Food is not the same. I went to Matteos all the time and loved it. I went twice now and both times I was disappointed. I thought I would give it a second chance the second time and now its confirmed I will not go back. Food has definitely gone down hill and prices have gone up hill! I am grateful that the baker remains the same her desserts are fantastic. The Chicken salad had SO much mayonnaise in it, it was soggy and inedible I had to throw it away along with the 12 bucks I paid for it. Really disappointed.

A group of friends and I went Mangias, mind it was a pretty large group but we werent loud or rushing the women behind the counter. When I went to go place my order, I asked to substitute 3 items for a different 3 items and the woman behind the counter was snappy and banging on the counter because I ask for it. I also feel that I was over charged by $3. I was not rude in any way. I dont think a costumer should be treated the way I was. But otherwise the food was great.

My sister and I had lunch at this cafe yesterday, and had a wonderful salad special. Spinach with grilled chicken, dried cherries, bleu cheese and walnuts. Very fresh with delicious flavors. Service was great. Atmosphere was clean and cozy. Upon discovering it was my birthday, Gigi and Mike surprised me with a fun musical birthday wish! I will definitely return for another meal.

The food was ok. It was a bit over priced for the quality of food. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the service wasnt very good. We waited for everything, a long time. 15 mins for our drinks (each refill) and 1hr for the food to actually make it to the table. There were tables around us that were served first. I was not impressed.

We eat here at least 5 times a week between lunch and dinner and they always have great dishes, an awesome patio and very fairly priced. Like any other business, sometimes it gets busy and things happen but to be quite honest with you they are an exceptionally good value for great food.
