I just finished eating a plate of spare ribs from Texas West BBQ in Sacramento. After reading about how good this place was on the reviews I was very disappointed. I didnt expect it to be mind-blowing, but I expected to at least be good. At best Id say it was decent. The ribs didnt look very appetizing and the smoke coloring and flavor was missing from the meat. The rub on the top was very light and there was none on the bottom (it was still white). Also, the meat was very fatty so the ribs obviously werent cooked long enough to let it melt out. Ive cooked enough ribs in my life to know what re-heated ribs look and taste like and I believe thats what these were. Luckily the sauce was good because I needed it to make up for the lack of flavor in the ribs. The beans werent great either and the celery was so big and undercooked in it that during some bites thats all I tasted. The coleslaw was the best part of the meal and it was as standard as it comes. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone that appreciates good barbecue...Maybe somebody who doesnt know any better would like it, but this isnt a place Id go back to.

When I initially bit into a bright pink and gummy pork sparerib, I gave the benefit of the doubt because I am aware that some people actually prefer their meat this way. I tried to pick around it because the sauce was delicious but I couldnt eat it. I threw the rib to the side and decided to go in on my chicken leg. It was bloody. Not pink. Thick RED blood.....oozing out of the middle. I called the restaurant and was transferred to speak to the manager, Rene. When I told him what I had just experienced, he immediately became defensive and began to yell over me in an attempt to explain WHY their meat is that way. I informed him that I understand smoked meat can be pink, but this meat is BLEEDING. He said, "Yes, thats the way its supposed to be." CHICKEN?!?! BLOODY CHICKEN?!?! I was and still am appalled!! I told him that I was reporting him and hung up the phone. He called me right back to apologize and offer a refund. At this point Im not sure that will suffice. My stomach hurts; I already feel ill. I only wish I could post a picture. I will never speak a good word about this place.

Im always looking for great BBQ especially baby back ribs - more specifically fall of the bone type of BBQ. The taste and smokiness was there but not the tenderness. I feel that the ribs shouldve been smoked longer. My wife had a 3 meat platter - pork ribs (not baby back), brisket and chicken. The ribs were not sauced, but came with sauce which was tasty and, again, not tender enough. The brisket was not shredded but rather sliced of which was the first time we saw brisket served this way and it was VERY VERY dry. And Chicken, well we leave the chicken alone since chicken is normally the last thing I look for at a BBQ place. The ambiance was non existent. Although the place had seating area for about 15, the place was more of a take out place. Would we go back??? Only because we have one Gift Certificate left and would probably order Burgers since its on the menu and its something different.

I am a true bbq lover, and this place has some of the worst Ive ever had. I had high expectations based on some good reviews, but from the moment I walked into the place, the feel just wasnt there. You can usually tell a good bbq place by the smell, and this place just smelled musty and dirty. The brisket and chicken were dry and un-edible while the spare ribs and baby back ribs were barely tolerable. The bbq baked beans were runny and the texas toast was not good. If there were anyone at the counter after I started eating I would have asked for my money back. Dont waste your time here. Spend a little extra time and drive up to Lucielles in Roseville for some real bbq.

Dont eat here unless you like your baby back ribs REALLY, REALLY thick , with lots of fat, and VERY TOUGH. They were so thick I thought they were beef ribs. The worst ribs Ive ever had. I asked for a manager and was told no manager was on duty. The waiter replaced the ribs, and then I got COLD ribs with the same problems. The small meal for 2 was $44.00. They did not even offer me a discount or take some of the money off the bill. Very disappointed! Especially since they were voted the best by KCRA viewers. Dont know about you, but I love my baby back ribs to fall off the bones!

I got the four meat combo as takeout to try everything. They neglected to include any briskit, which is a pretty big oversight. They gave me an extra chicken leg instead. I had to ask for pickles. None of the food tasted particularly smokey, or was tender. Im not sure what to call it, but its definitely NOT barbecue. The cole slaw had that institutional taste, for lack of a better word. The macaroni salad was equally unimpressive. I only went because a local Sac magazine gave it top marks. Dont waste your time.

Im always leary of ordering chicken out but their chicken is excellent, very moist, excellent smokey flavor. Even better are the Wings, smoked then fried with their special spicy sauce, phenomenal. Everything here is homemade goodness from the meat to the sides. Eat in but they have a huge take out business and outstanding catering. Catering prices are really reasonable especially for what they provide. Established for over 26 years, Highly recommend Texas West Bar-B-Que.

I ordered Pork baby back ribs cause Ive been craving them, but I live in an area where they dont serve them. Im use to meat falling of the bone ribs, once I started eating one I noticed it wasnt pork. It was beef, probably the toughest beef ribs ever. The fries were good the cole slaw was ok. Will never buy ribs here again, I go to Sunrise blvd.!!?

Been loyal customer here since the 90s. Same owner. This food is simply amazing. Always big portions, quality , chicken , spare ribs, potato salad, fries, beans, texas toast and bbq sauce are amazing. Dated a girl frm tyler, tx and she told me their bbq and sauce was almost dead on same as from tyler, tx. Still good today. Visited 1/20/17

OMG! I cant believe Ive waited this long to try their food. Theirs is the only potato salad Ive ever had that is as good as my moms. The brisket is fork-tender and juicy, the spareribs are succulent, and they have REAL TEXAS BEERS. Cant wait to try their chicken and beef ribs. Only criticism: so-so mac & cheese.

A lot of room to park your car during lunchtime rush. Friendly and welcoming staff, place is clean, cozy and retro which I like very much. Food is great! BBQ just the way I expected. Bring a big appetite! Not to mention that this place is popular and is voted in the KCRA List! Go treat yourself :)
