I lived in Chicago for 35 years, and in California for the last ten, and I must say, I have never found a decent replica of a Chicagostyle pizza - including Old Chicago Pizza. Its all about adding both olive oil and BUTTER into the dough when making it, and you can tell that nobody here does that. To me, all crust here has that saltine-cracker / matzo cracker sort of a texture to it - way too dry. Chicago style pizza crust should be closer to the dough on a pie - rich, and flavorful, and is meant to be eaten with a fork. We went to Old Chicago yesterday, and the pizza was ok - but not to die for. At least not for me. Yes, I know I am a pizza snob - I cant help it. To give Kudos to Old Chicago Pizza - the flavor of the sauce was excellent. If they got that wrong, then it would be totally inedible, but theirs was nice and had a well rounded flavor - not too sweet and not to acidic. As for the sausage, it tasted ok, but again, in true Chicago style, there would have been a solid sheet of it - almost like a second crust, so that you get sausage in every bite. If you ever watch Ace of Cakes on Food Network and have seen Duff talk about his favorite food - he talks about the "14 inch wheel of sausage" that is placed on a Chicago-style pizza. Thats what Im talking about! Other ingredients - cheese - still not enough. I know health-conscious Californians would disagree - but its pizza - its not a diet food. True Chicago style has well over a pound of cheese on every pizza. Spinach - a Chicago classic - not on their menu - surprising, since the owner is from Chicago. A spinach, sausage and mushroom combo is just so delicious. Also, Chicken and Pineapple would be be shunned in Chicago, but I know you have to please the locals. They also need to shape the dough all the way up the edge of the pan - so it has a right angle - not this big doughy ring around it. If it was made with butter in dough mixture - this part would be raw if they didnt shape it to form to the right angle of the pan. I did enjoy my crusts at Old Chicago - but they just werent traditional. Two more things - one - the pizza needs to sit for a good 20 minutes out of the oven. Our waitress brought out a molten hot pizza and started serving it right away - and half of the ingredients slid off, and stayed in the pan. From my experience, waitresses in Chicago informed everyone the pizza would take about an hour to an hour and a half to cook, (which is cooking time and cooling time) and recommended appetizers to their guests. This brings me to my last point - no appetizers at Old Chicago Pizza - that was a bit disappointing. We did eat a salad, our only option - but it would have been nice to have something like some fried calamari to munch on while we waited. The wait however, wasnt that long (probably because they brought it out of the oven right away.) All in all it was a good pizza. I do apologize to all Californians - I dont mean to dis the pizza here - but I have been spoiled by growing up in Chicago. Old Chicago (and Zacharys) are as good as youre going to get here. If you ever get a chance to eat pizza in Chicago - please do so. Youll see what Im talking about.

I went to Old Chicago Pizza just this past Memorial Day looking forward to a delicious pizza and a cold beer. I ended up ordering a 5 topping thin crust pizza with Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Onions, Black Olives, and Artichoke Hearts. When the pizza arrived I noticed that their "thin crust" is more along the lines of normal pizza crust thickness, and if youre looking for an actually thin crust then you better order their xtra thin crust. Nevertheless it turned out great, and the toppings were delicious. The artichoke hearts were definitely better than other places Ive tried. The olives were diced for some reason, but still tasted fine. And everything else was good as far as I can remember. We also had a really good window seat and were able to enjoy a view of downtown Petaluma. I had half of a pitcher of beer with the meal also, so thats about as much as I remember. All in all 5 stars.

Ive had a lot of pizza delivery in my day. This pizza is expensive, which I dont mind paying if its really, really good pizza. This was average pizza. After reading other reviews I was expecting to be really impressed, but heres my problem with it: Pizza isnt hard to mess up, you use good quality dough, sauce and toppings. The thin crust was lacking flavor and is was tough and chewy. It needed salt or a different ingredient mix to make it tastier and not as tough. The sauce was average. We ordered 2 pizzas—hawaiian and supreme. While the toppings tasted like quality ingredients, the sauce needed a little kick. The mozzarella cheese was good too. 2 medium pizzas came out to to $47 which included $4 for delivery. We wont plan on ordering here again mostly because of the price and average quality.

Worst pizza I have ever had. Ordered Hawaiian with jalapenos and mushrooms and the entire bottom of the pan had liquid in it, about 1/4 inch of liquid. Waitress never came back until the end. I tried to eat some because we had waiting so long to eat. When she finally came back, I had two full slices and half of one on my plate (the pizza had four slices total) my husband the waitress it seemed they didnt drain the pineapples and she said it was the mushrooms, the mushrooms!?!? Anyway, said she would let the manager know, as we showed her the soggy, sloppy mess of pizza soup and they gave us a "discount" (a whole 25%Off ) then asked if we wanted it boxed up to take. So disgusting, never been so disappointed by pizza and service.

Best Pizza in town, or anywhere that Ive ever had, but today the service was extremely poor. We ordered got our sodas and never did the waitress come and check if we needed more soda, mind you the place was not busy, she sat at the counter doing some sort of paperwork, had a personal phone call. When the bell from the kitchen rang she told the person on the phone she had to go, thats when we got served and we asked for more soda. We arrived about 2:15pm, pizza was served about 4:05pm. Never had I had such service here, and Ive been coming here for 30 years. Love the pizza, I was ready to call Old Chicago delivery and have a pizza delivered to the resturant. So sad.

Its the best deep dish pizza hands down. Ive been a local resident for 30 years and Ive traversed the globe and I know that pizza is a global language. This pizza is the king of pizza language. Worth ever bit of agonizing torture sitting watching others gleefully devour their ozzzey gooey cheesy deep dish amazing crust pizzas while waiting for your own to be freshly prepared and fired in an oven for 20ish min. I recommend getting a beer to quench the mouthwatering aroma in the building while you wait. And save room for a warm cookie out of that pizza oven for dessert. The Lisa salad is the best. Hands down. If youre into salads at a pizza place.
