Another PYE, I had wondered who was going to be there. Andrew just told me. "a lot of friends". He was not kidding when I see so many familiar faces. I invited my good Yelp friend, Stephanie P. who was very impressed with everything the restaurant had to offer from food to service to the Yelp friends in attendance. I was just surprised I knew almost half of the group which seemed like a Yelp reunion rather than a Private Yelp Event. What did impress me was the fact that Andrew took the time to print everyones name on a label so everyone can refer to each person by name. Even the waitress knew everyone by their name as the orders were delivered by food runners and waitresses. Craig and his guest ordered almost the same thing as I did but agua-chile style instead of shrimp cocktail style. Mine was the Campechana cocktail which only came with saltines as their dish came with tostada chips. I couldnt see what Lily ordered but Jorge had the wet burrito which is what I would normally get with carnitas. This restaurants menu seems to boast seafood just like their other location in Long Beach. I think this location does much better with the food, presentation and taste. Extra avocado was not a problem but is extra charge. The guacamole was served in a large molcajete bowl and always great for sharing. Glen ordered the fish which was the whole half filet of a white fish and just as much rice on his plate. I think he requested no beans. I can see Andrew down at the end with a mixed hot plate as it was steaming and sizzling all at the same time everyone taking pictures. I dont remember what Vince ordered but he was sitting at the head of the table. More Yelpers arrived later as another table was added and more food delivered. As we were all talking and catching up and comparing notes and pictures, we all turned for our picture as the waitress was nice enough to snap one for us. We also noticed after when a group of waitresses huddled around a table crowning someone with a sombrero for their birthday. What a great idea as we all clapped along and to plan to have them bring that same excitement to our table. Lawrence and Glen agreed we should ask the waitress to sing happy birthday to Andrew as Ben had disagreed telling us we shouldnt. Fia was walking around the large table chatting with a few people, I got her attention to grab Andrew to sit down so they can come sing. Simon pointed out to say they are already on their way. The entire table all sang along and clapped as Andrew now has the sombrero on top of his head blowing out the candle on the ice cream dessert. Not too long after everyone was stuffed and ready to go. As Craig and Wen left, Steph came over to say goodbye to Stephanie P. as they had a moment together sharing the same name with name tags at different seats. The waitress was nice enough to offer separate checks. I even requested for a refill of Jamaica to go which she didnt charge me for it. I hope I shown my appreciation in my tips as usually in a big group. It is unusual that gratuity was not added to our separate checks. This is how I remember what a real Mexican restaurant was like and they brought back that memory for me even for this PYE. Im sure the next time we are in this area, we can all come back and visit the cantina for margaritas and tequila shots as I was eye-balling Glens margarita in a tall beer glass. No skimping on drinks in this place but I was also the driver which means just aguas frescas for me. The next time Andrew has a birthday, we will be back to celebrate again next year!!! Thank you Andrew!

The restaurant itself is a great place to eat and I always recommend it to everyone. This rating is based of off one waitress named Barbara. If I could I would rate her a 0 star but the lowest possible rating is 1. I was furious with the service she provided. I am a long time customer and have NEVER had any issues regarding the service provided. I went to have lunch with my girlfriend and right from the moment she came to our table I could sense a bad vibe. At first I just assume she was having a bad day but she provided superb service to the 2 tables next to ours. She never once came to check on us, never looked us in the eyes like a good waitress is suppose too, didnt acknowledge us, and when I politely requested water from her she made it seem like it was a hassle. She would literally check on the table to the left of me, skipped us, and check on the table to the right of us. She had a fake attitude and kissed ass to the other tables (who just so happen to be white) and talked to them with a smile and high pitched voice. The worst part is that the restaurant was not even busy like it usually is. I tried very hard to give her the benefit of the doubt but I honestly think she had an issue serving a gay couple. Even after her horrible service I still left a $3 tip and she didnt even check us out. We waited a while before another server came to grab our bill. She has a conceited attitude and flaunts her Michael Kors watch. Yes , she is one of those girls. I shouldve complained there and then and I really hope this rating gets yo management because it is unacceptable. Im not even sure Barbara is her name but that was the name on my receipt. Just look for the waitress with excessive make up and big gold watch. Other than that Compadres has delicious food and Micheladas. The Long Beach location is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy better and also gay friendly.

I didnt even know this location existed until I got invited to a group dinner here. All I know is the Long Beach location on Anaheim is always crazy-packed and this place looks to follow suit. This chain seems to be THE place for large gatherings (Mexican or otherwise) and I can see why: huge space and an accommodating staff. Each table easily had at least 10 people, celebrating all manner of occasions so I guess this is their specialty! The staff definitely did right by us: they didnt mind splitting checks and didnt bat an eye when some people in our group showed up an hour and a half later. They just added another table to the end and kept right on going, lol. I got a michelada to drink (awesome) and their carnitas plate, which Ive had at their other location, and unfortunately it was just OK. The portions were generous and it had good flavor, but the edges were dried out. The refried beans were great and the rice was unremarkable Mexican rice. Not sure how the other people liked their food, but Ive definitely had better. If I get invited to another gathering here I wouldnt turn it down, but this wouldnt be a preferred destination for me.

This is one of my most favorite Mexican restaurants in SoCal. They have several locations, but this is my favorite. Ive never had a dish I didnt like here. And the service is always on point. Super friendly and tentative staff. Only wish they stayed open later. And parking can be a pain. Good thing is, if theres no parking in the lot, you can park in the neighborhood behind the restaurant (probably annoying for the homeowners, tho). Another drawback is the wait time can be insane. I guess thats a good thing because it means the food is good. And yes, the food is goooooooood! Seriously, never had a dish I didnt like. Some of my faves are the filete a la plancha (grilled fish plate), pechuga pollo a la plancha (grilled chicken plate), caldo de pollo (chicken soup) and pretty much all the ceviches. So much yum! And the cocktails, they be tasty too!
