Worst service Ive ever had. A local B&B host recommended us 42nd Street Cafe & Bistro but when we got there we realized it was closed on Tuesdays. So we quickly looked on Yelp for another restaurant. We thought 4 star rating isnt bad and didnt have time to read some of the reviews before we went. Wish we had time to read some of them, then we would have totally avoided the slow and expensive food and rude waitress, and the 20% service charge! When we first stepped in, we thought we found a good place because the view is really nice. Its 2:30ish in the afternoon so only about 1/3 of the seats were occupied. Its self seating. The table we wanted to use had checks and cups left by the previous party. I asked a waitress if we could sit there and if she could please clean the table for us. She seemed to be surprised by my request and paused for a second, then said sure. Was that an unreasonable request? So she cleaned the table and we sat down. Four of us only got two menus. When our waitress came, I asked for two more menus. She never introduced herself by the way. She has short hair, is in her 50s, the oldest amongst the waitresses that day. After she took our orders, we waited for about 30 minutes till the food came. The food is over priced for the quality, but still justifiable since the restaurant is located on a tourist spot with ocean view. Fish & Chips with 3 pieces of fish and French fries for $18, burger with fries for $16, butter lettuce salad, $9 (I could barely taste any dressing and had to ask for a cup of dressing 15 minutes later after I finally called her attention). A few minutes after our food came, we still didnt have utensils and napkins. I politely reminded her "can you please bring us utensils", the response was "Im trying to get the food to you as fast as I can". Excuse me, utensils are normally on the table before food comes. After reading some of the Yelp reviews on the rude waitress just now, Im sure we had the same waitress! As mentioned earlier, only about 1/3 of the seats were occupied and there were about 4 waitresses. Our waitress never came to check on us. What kept her so busy? I wasnt planning to give a big tip until the check came with a 20% service charge. 20% service charge when the service is poor?? Well never go back for sure. Another lesson learned, never only look at the rating on Yelp but actually read some reviews too.

This review is for the horrible service we received, we ultimately didnt dine here b/c of the way we were treated by a gal named Jody portrayed herself as the owner or manager of the restaurant. When we arrived at about 9:00 am to enjoy my first Mothers Day breakfast there was a short line (two other parties) ahead of us, no big deal - it was Mothers Day. What happened next was the big deal. One party was seated and the party in front of us was offered a 4 person table or they could sit at the bar if they didnt have kids. We watched the party in front of us sit at the bar, then the hostess told us our options. We told the hostess we had a baby with us, she told us there was a four person table or the bar...........then over walked Jody. Jody looked at us and accused of: "attacking her staff and giving her staff a hard time" We were confused by the statements that Jody made and it appeared the hostess was surprised as well, although she may have had a twinkle of fear in her eyes (due to the way Jody was treating us). Jody went on to tell us there was a 4 person table, but it was reserved or we could sit in the bar - all while using a tone that was incredibly rude. The hostess had told us the table was available but Jody told us it was reserved - not sure which was accurate. We were so surprised by the attacking way we were being treated (by Jody), she kept coming up with new information - the reserved table, a 30 min. wait, and continued to tell us we were attacking "her" staff. We decided we could not patronize this business and left. Im still a bit shocked by the way we were treated (24 hours later) - Ive never been treated so poorly by someone in customer service. Additionally, Jody told us to "yelp our experience as we left. On our way out we stopped by the front desk of the Adrift to ask a few questions and share what happened. The gal at the desk was apologetic and friendly.

i have visited this restaurant on several other visits to the coast and rate their food very good. This time around I felt a little disappointed in both their food and their "forced" service fee. Food is usually good, but found their portion size for the crab cakes a bit small. 2 cakes for $15?! Cakes had a lot of crab and good flavor, but not any more than many other places. The sole fish was very good, but I didnt like all the pure oil they poured around the plate just to make it look nice. For all this, dropping a star. Another 2 stars are dropped for their service fee and resistance we got back for requesting that we be able to specify our own tip. Waitress immediately went into defense that it was a service fee and not a tip. Rose by any other name is still a rose. Further, she offered to get the manager to have him discuss with us and remove the service fee. We didnt back down and said yes. She came back with a new bill and our credit card, already processed apparently, without the fee...BUT with no place to sign nor any place to put a tip. We had to write all that in ourselves. Add to that, no copy for us, so we had to use phone to take a picture for our records. This was such a bad experience that we were still complaining well after we left the restaurant. If not for their service fee policy/cr@p, I would give them a 3.5 to 4.0 rating in food/price. But with this recent move of theirs, this restaurant is now off my list for revisiting.

Although the menu resembles a high-end bistro, the food definitely does not match the menu. Looks to be a nice pizza and burger joint, however we went for a birthday celebration dinner (based on the menu) and were extremely disappointed. Server asked us what temperature to cook the salmon, so I assumed they could get both that and my steak properly cooked (medium rare). Steak came out seared but raw and cool, salmon was seared but uncooked inside as if from frozen. Salmon portion was one inch wide by three inches long, served with half a stalk of romaine on each end of the plate, and couldnt be finished due to the inside being raw. (Grilled Wild Salmon $26 Cauliflower puree. Oven charred lettuce. Mountain huckleberries. Bacon vinaigrette.) The steak was re-heated, yet the au-jus on it had a vinegar flavor that didnt pair with the dish at all. This is the first time Ive sent a plate back in my life, Im really not a picky eater, but this was inexcusable. Wine selection was poor, nothing of quality to go with the meals. We paid full price for the meal, without even an apology, just the excuse that they had a room full of people next door that they were overloaded getting their meals ready. Server was attentive, the problems here go back to management. We will not go back - yes, the view is nice, but better meals are elsewhere for these prices.
