Being avid on trying to always find a new spot in the local area, we set reservations for EAT at the Oceanfront. They say first impressions are everything and well sadly enough ours wasnt so great. It wasnt technically the restaurants fault however, parking is non-existent. You have to park on the street and pay the meters. Also note that there is only 10-15 parking spots within a block of the restaurant. This might be a huge issue during peak summer days/nights. Once the parking was all taken care we walked in and were sat at a table. Another downfall is it seemed like the hostess wasnt too thrilled to be there. No facial expressions, no personality... maybe it was just an off night for her. Our waiter comes to the table, I cant recall his name but I believe he mentioned to another table he was Italian. Anyways, this guy was great. He had all the specials memorized and was exactly what you expect from a top notch waitstaff. He was polite, helpful and gave great recommendations. Overall, the service was excellent and the food was really good as well. Being that the parking was a killer and the price being a tad bit high in my opinion, it was a good experience. I wouldnt say its my new favorite spot, but its definitely pretty decent of a place to eat. Its small so I wouldnt expect to get a large group in there. It could kill a vacation budget for a family but would make for a nice elegant dinner for two or four.

Overall mediocre; if google gave me a "fair" rating distinct from "poor" I would use it, but I cannot in conscience say this place is "good". There are plenty of good restaurants in Va Beach; try someplace else instead. Some very good things -- the duck confit was perfect, duck breast and oysters rockefeller decent (though neither fantastic). On the other hand, the dish that required just a little effort, the paella, was very poor - overcooked, bad mussels, little flavor. There was nothing about this dish that was acceptable. When this was brought to the attention of the staff, no compensation was made. It was clearly ineptly prepared, and probably never even "perfected" by the chef. This is inexcusable. So yes, there is some good happening at this place. I really wanted to like it, because this is exactly the kind of restaurant I like. Instead, it is over-rated and pretentious, and when next I want an excellent meal in Virginia Beach, I will go elsewhere.

Ok, Ill admit it, Im a food snob. I dont eat at chain restaurants. I fully appreciate the skill and talent that chef brings to the dining experience. Creating interesting flavors, tastes, and experiences. The team at EAT, is one of the best Ive ever found. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, and the food? Well lets just say that its incredible, I mean really AMAZING. Ive eaten at some of the top restaurants in the world, and while some of them are much more fancy than Eat, the food is no better. Simply put, this place is fantastic. My wife and I ate on Monday night, and loved it so much, we brought our friends back and ate again on Tuesday night, and Id bet before we leave Virginia Beach, well be back again. Thank you to the Chef and everyone that works at Eat for caring enough, to put out excellent, delicious food, and with the service to match. Ill be back, and Im hungry for more.

Good food, but not for those prices. Ive eaten a lot of places, including living in other countries and eating other countrys cuisines for years. So, given my experience, my opinion of the steak I bought here and the scallop pasta my mother bought that I also tasted was that it was fair. It was better cooked than, say, TGI Fridays, but not mind-blowingly good. Especially not for the prices they charge. If you want to pay this much for food, you should expect better. My steak was JUST steak with green beans and mashed potatoes, which also werent anything extraordinary nor were they much different from mashed potatoes or green beans that you can cook at home. The presentation of the food was fancy, but the taste didnt live up to the looks either. I would say the food here is comparable to The Cheesecake Factory except The Cheesecake Factory is cheaper and has cheesecake.

This is our go-to date night spot. It never fails to deliver in everything from service, atmosphere, and of course the food. Their daily menu hasnt changed much over time, but they do have a chalkboard that lists enticing daily specials, and are definitely worth giving a try. The dishes are artfully put together and are very Instagram worthy. As for quality, everything is delicious and top-notch, theres not a single bad item on the menu and believe me Ive tried them all. The drinks menu is superb, lots of choices for beer and wine and of course a handful of great house cocktails. Location-wise it is towards the northern part of the oceanfront close to the Cavalier Hotel. It is literally steps from the beach and parking is not that far away. Eat is one of those rare gems in Virginia Beach that we always go out of our way to enjoy.

We shall return! The understated mood is set by the ligthing and reflections contrasted with the vibrant lime and lemon menus to highlight the amazing food. Oyster Rockefeller are mouth watering with the Asiago cheese punch. Get the crab cake app and distract your party to get the last few bites. Champagne and Vodka so smooth in Truffle Shuffle that the drink is effortless.. Tomato jam! Tomato jam atop a salt and peppered Rock fish seared in cast iron pan should be seriously considered. The filet is the real deal for those opting for beef. You wont have room for dessert but share a double Chocolate bouchon and walk it off on the boardwalk catching Pokémon.

I grew up in Virginia Beach, but have lived in other, bigger cities for most of my adult life. Every time I came home to visit I was frustrated at the lack of creative and quality restaurants. Until I found EAT! Its a cozy, intimate space with a thoughtful menu. It personifies Virginia Beach without all the cheesy cliches (wave motifs, crab sculptures, King Neptune). The other poster was probably right: Its not the best place to bring small children. But for a night out with friends, family, or just to grab a drink at the bar, its really wonderful and totally local. Oh. And the lack of parking? Ride your bike over if youre close.

Judging by the other reviews I might have just went on a bad night. I made a reservation at Eat a week in advance only to show up to a full house with no record of my reservation. The only seat available was right in front of the front door on a freezing cold night. We ordered appetizers and they sent us the wrong order and were out of what we actually ordered. I have worked in the restaurant business for 16 years so I understand these things happen. All things service-wise aside I still found the food to me mediocre and somewhat pricey. I went there with three other people and only one of them was pleased with their meal

When we stay in VB this restaurant is a must for us. Great taste, great portions, great service, great ambiance and vibe, and great value for all of the above. Actually with every passing year our experiences become better and better (particularly in food tasting department) . This summer they surprised us with outstanding approach and accommodations to our Grandchildren needs (one of whom is severe allergic to many foods). We visited them twice during our stay and both times were outstanding experiences. Thanks a lot EAT, we will be back.
