Friendly staff. Not much for a seafood place though, as far as fish goes, catfish is the only option on the menu except for the flounder; which was AMAZING. We started with the jalapeño slices and fried mushrooms & crab aw graten (never came out, but came on the platter and was also AMAZING). They were very good. Portion sizes are more than enough, but the garlic mash potatoes is an overwhelming portion. The hush puppies were too hard to eat. The greens were good, the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Our party liked the catfish ok. My blackened catfish, however, tasted more like charcoal, unfortunately. The waitress had it removed from the check so that was nice. We ordered 2 seafood platters, but they were out of the stuffed shrimp, which sadly was why they ordered it. The fried oysters were very good, but the stuffed crab was more bready than craby. We didnt go too long with empty glasses; thats always a plus.

On the River Restaurant is filled with old history, my personal memories of working there as a teenager. Drew one of the owners is an awesome person. April 10, 2015 is my mothers birthday, and after serving 13 years in the Marine Corps, with my contribution to service my country every birthday I always was away and never had a chance to be there for her birthday. I called this gentlemen and asked if he could do something special for my mother. He agreed, and tomorrow my family is going to take her to a surprise dinner. With all her medical problems, she never had a chance to get out of the house either, so helping me by treating her very special this day, is an awesome act of kindness. I cant be there once again, but Freeport Texas has the best of the best and this guy is one of them. Thanks Drew, and Semper Fi.

I have been eating here for years but for the past 4 times we have been here with Vendors - the quality of food has gone down hill. Went for lunch today - super slow took an hour and forty five min to get our food and 2 orders were wrong (only 5 people at the table). Manager came over- not to apologize but to hand us a new receipt to reflect the price increase for the correct food. Wow! Dont think we will be returning to your restaurant again... its a slap in the face when you bring an out of town vendor to a restaurant and say come on youll like it and keep getting negative results. Good Luck On the River. Maybe thats why only 8 tables where full at your peak hours today...

It has been a long time since I have eaten at a place, and left hungry...But that is what happened to me today. I ordered the Brazos meal, which is 6 shrimp and supposed to be two fillets of catfish, which wound up being one fillet cut in half. and they charge 15$ for this crap! veggies were cold on my plate, and the hushpuppies were saturated with grease like they had been soaking in it before they turned the heat on. the poor sad little piece of cornbread looked and tasted like leftovers. I will never again eat at this place.

Wow! I was on tour in Texas, and found this great little place. Service was good, nice ambiance and the food was really flavorful. My taco salad had just the right amount of KICK to not be another boring taco salad. I opted for the melted queso cheese and it was excellent. Our server even offered us to go cups of tea....cant beat that for hospitality. If I play in this area again, Ill be back! Susan Kolb, Touring Musician

Very disappointing. 6 small shrimp and 2 small pieces of catfish which were suppose to be fillets for 14.99. The catfish appeared to be one fillet cut in half. This use to be a very good restaurant I enjoyed. First visit in 1.5-2 years...What happened? Parking lot was nearly empty for lunch when it use to be hard to find a parking place. Date of visit 5/11/15 for lunch.

This place has long been one of my favorites. I love it all, from the cole slaw to the pickled onions and the tiny pans of cornbread, to their fried shrimp, their shrimp brochette and their gumbo. The only thing I would recommend is to avoid their mashed potatoes. To me they always look, taste and have the consistency of instant.

Take out order: I called ahead for a dessert only take out. The peach and berry cobbblers were delicious! The cheesecake was plain, even though the image on the website shows swirls of chocolate and strawberry sauce. I wish the amount of ice cream served with the cobblers was greater. I would love to try their other offerings.

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a little girl. I always enjoy the coleslaw, the greens, and the cornbread. Nobody can make those dishes like them! Anytime Im in the area I make an excuse to come and get some to go. Of course I like their seafood too, especially the stuffed crab.

Good food, fried pickles were perfectly delicious and their homemade ranch is really good. Love that they support the local community & give back. Place is a cute riverside type lodge restaurant. Only critique Id give is that I wish their were more fresh seafood options on the menu

Pickles were ok, but Ive had better at chain places. The Brazos Special was horrible. Bitter shrimp, funky tasting catfish, and veggies were drowned in oil. Hush puppies were ok. I should have just got the pickles as the 1/2 portion was huge. Service was ok

The fried shrimp and stuffed shrimp are very good. The atmosphere is really cool- it has wooden floors and ceilings and appears to be quite old. The service was friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Ill be happy to eat here again.

Went here based on reviews and we were not disappointed. Catfish incredible, good shrimp, and everything else tasty. Crab au gratin is a treat. Fried oysters were mostly bread but good. Overall great place, definitely a must try!

Stopped in for lunch food was great. However this not on the river, no view since the river view is blocked by the levee. Waitress was attentive and service was excellent. A must try if you are in the area.

I got the childrens dinosaur chicken nuggets and they looked like camels and elephants. They were very delicious, dont get me wrong, I was just disappointed in the shape of the nuggets. - Love, Eli

The best hometown restaurant in the area. I asked for a BLT grilled shrimp po-boy w/honeymustard, (not on menu BTW) and it was wonderful. In fact, now when I order, they already know my sandwich.
