Haru always does well with sushi. They always have fresh fish but what I really like about them is that they have creative approaches to the typical sushi menu. Some of my favorites are the edamame shumai, trio of sushi tacos and the sashimi cucumber rolls. They also have yummy cocktails, although some are a bit on a the sweet side. This location is one of my favorites of the chain. It has a chic ambiance that feels fancier than some of the others and is just one block from Union Square. Despite the fancy feel, you can also walk in in casual attire if you desire. Ive walked in here before but it is also good to get a reservation if you can. Last Monday I tried to walk in at 9pm on a Monday ni

Great place for tourists or if you like overpriced food. Got teriyaki and it was just ok. The sushimi we got was fresh but nothing special and the noodle bowl was not better than any other hole in the wall noodle place in NY charging half the price. Edamame was delicious, but it ought to be with all the spices and salt they put in there. The service was excellent, the wait staff was really on it, which is why Im giving 2 stars. But honestly, the standard of food in this town has dropped while the prices keep going up. I have to question the quality of the ingredients. The meals (there were 4 of us and we shared everything) didnt sit completely well afterward.

Really great and authentic Japanese place. Run by Japanese people in the strictest tradition of service. Not a lot of choices, if thats your thing, but what they have is super good. Food is great, service is fantastic. They only take American Express (grrrrrrr). Tempted to knock off a star for that but everything else was so good.

A great place. Very comfortable environment. Been going there since it opened many, many years ago. Food is consistently good. Only down side ( or it would have been 5 stars ) is that over the years the portions have gotten much smaller - especially the Omen noodles. But still delicious!

A lovely little find. Quite authentic Japanese, style for decor, which somehow really works in NY. The menu was interesting, and has a separate Saka menu,. The Tempura was crisp, and not over fatty, and the Udon (hot or cold option) was spot on.

This place is not serious. I made a reservation for 8 people by phone and when we arrived (from quite far), it was not even written down. They did not acomodate us and kicked us out in a very unpolite maner. Im still freaking out.

the real deal for japanese the way its eaten in japan. service and decor have dulled slightly in recent years, but the food and presentation keep us coming back for quiet sense-filling meals.

Great food also very expensive. We were seated on a weeknight without reservation. The waitress was either having a bad day or she needs to change her job. Was rude and not welcoming.

Best Udon Ive had in New York, and Ive been going to many places. They have a very chewy consistency and with the cold option, it is nearly like mochi.

Very good food. Exquisite. Real Japanese food. Large selection of sake and soju. Be aware - payment is only with AMEX and it is quite extensive.

For a first experience with a "real" Japanese place besides the usual sushi places, Id say 5/5!
