So a week or so ago my girlfriend and I decided to try "Mexicali Blue" for the first time, after having heard around town (we live near New Paltz) that it was good Mexican food. They opened at 11am that day and so around 11:20 we stopped by and grabbed a menu to look over before we called in an order. We had decided to each get a steak burrito, the price of which seemed steep-average at $9.50 each. So around 11:30 we tried to call in our order for the first time. We got no answer on the phone, though we were still determined to try their food so we killed some time and tried again at about 11:45. Once again there was no answer. We managed to get through on our third try at around noon, around an hour after they were supposed to have opened for the day. We placed our order, and the guy I spoke to on the phone seemed nice enough. He said that our order would take about 15-20 min. So we showed up 22 minutes later, figuring that the food would definitely be done by then. It wasnt. In fact, it seemed as though they had just started to prepare within the last 5 minutes. After we waited about 5 more minutes, one of the guys working said, with an attitude, that we should return in 10 more minutes. So we left, drove around, considered not waiting for the food, decided that would be rude, and returned about 10 minutes from when we had left. Upon our return, 2 of the 3 guys working were outside smoking cigarettes and chatting. As we walked past them to enter the restaurant, they both gave us looks that seemed to say, "you bastards, how dare you make us work this early in the day." Mind you that we had been nothing but polite, courteous, and timely (as we continued to be throughout the ordeal). So we went in, paid for the food (we even tipped them a dollar), and about 40-45 minutes after the order had been placed, left with our food. The food was, much as it pains me to say after this travesty of food service, actually good. However, this is in spite of the fact that we received no salsa verde or limes as, according to the menu, we were supposed to receive. Also, one burrito had heavy black burns on its wrap from being over-grilled, and the other one was noticeably smaller than the over-cooked one. And being as they were served with no rice, beans or condiments, they were more like approx. 10 dollar snack wraps than the hearty meal one typically expects when purchasing Mexican food. We both felt that the staff was genuinely resentful of us for making them have to actually work, and as we both have food service industry experience, we consider ourselves fairly good judges. We both really wanted to like it, and it wasnt bad food in spite of all these factors, but we will never go back just because of the terrible service. Such a shame.

****BE CAREFUL EATING AT THIS PLACE NO TELLING WHAT IS IN YOUR FOOD ESPECIALLY AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLE********** ****Update***** I have contacted CNN News, Action News 5 and my Lawyers concerning this matter! I have to say all my life I have been taught not to treat people of other races bad but to be loving and kind to all people. For years I have eaten at Mexicali Blue and I own 4 businesses and always referred my clients to them. I went in Mexicali today to pick up my pickup order and their were 3 hispanic guys in there and I advised I was there to pick up my food and one guy went to the register to check me out and the other guy in the back make a very bad and nasty racial slur about black people in spanish. Then they all started laughing! They did not know that I speak spanish and heard what they said. I politely paid for my food and the left and then called back and asked to speak to the manager the spanish guy tried to pretend he was the manager because they knew they were in trouble and I asked to speak to the lady there who is not hispanic and I told her what happened and she said that she would talk to them about it. I have to say I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM EVER AGAIN! and sad to say my view of hispanic people has really changed. I wasnt doing anything wrong and those guys made such a nasty RACIST comment about black people. It is close to 2014 and yet we are still having situations like this in business establishments!

Here is my experience with eating here. First of all is so small that you can barely fit 4 people inside. Then the cashier doesnt even give you a minute to think where you want to go next(is not like I want to stay in this claustrophobic and loud place to wait anyway) so she ask you to wait inside not even in a nice friendly manner but tell you can you wait outside? Like wheres is the please lady? I ordered the chicken chilli lime burrito $10.50 and as I got closer to the chicken it tasted like someone poured a bottle of fake lime juice because it tasted so bitterly acid. They also put shredded cheese the cheddar orange kind that as we all know is not even real. I cant really see why this place is so overrated. This place is not a big deal with food Ive had better burritos at a much better price. Anthony Burdain ate there it doesnt mean you need to over charge customers with your cheaply made food. Get real! If you charge so much for an insignificant burrito then expand your restaurant and hire more friendly people.

I am visiting from out of town and I ended up searching some of the local food places on google. After reading some of the reviews, I was apprehensive about coming here, but I am glad that I did. I ordered a burrito and ended up ordering another after I finished the first one. The food is fresh and cooked seconds after you order. They toast the tortilla, similar to what youd find in certain parts of Mexico. The guacamole is fresh and quite delicious mixed with all of the other spices they use for their food. I must say, I did also really enjoy their homemade habanero sauce. The next time Im traveling this way, I am definitely going to bring my partner, who cooks her own Hispanic food.

This place is great!! Im from California and this place tops any place in upstate New York! Its my second time here and the taste of the meat is tender, juicy and fresh. I like the variety I see on the menu and I didnt know they had mango salsa otherwise Id try that too! But its worth the trip and just go hungry and order double....I felt like I was in my town in San Jose, Ca....thanks to the owner Angela and its staff...I will be back again when Im in town! and i will spead the word too! Mucha Gracias!!

First time visiting MexiCali Blue, which just opened in Wappingers Falls Ny. After being seated our drinks took half an hour to recieve, and our food never came. Had three different servers come to our table to offer to take our order which was already suppose to be in. Waited an additional ten minutes for food, which never arrived then we left. Kitchen staff was not communicating to each other and everyone looked lost. Only having 7 tickets of orders on the ticket holder, and not much seating available.
